Tue Jan 3 201223:02Redskins sign Crompton to reserve/future deal
Redskins signed Jonathan Crompton, RB Tristan Davis, OT Nevin McCaskill and CB Travon Bellamy to reserve/future contracts.
A fifth-round pick of the Chargers in 2010, Crompton spent all of 2011 on the Redskins' practice squad. Depending on which direction Washington goes at quarterback this offseason, Crompton could be in the running for the team's third-string job in 2012. Amongst the Vikings' final cuts, Davis worked out for the Panthers in November, but wasn't signed. A journeyman, McCaskill is unlikely to compete for a roster spot.

Redskins signed QB Jonathan Crompton to the practice squad.
Crompton has NFL-caliber physical tools, but he's never been able to put it together mentally. Washington is a good landing spot, with only Rex Grossman and John Beck ahead of Crompton. Keep an eye out in deep Dynasty leagues.

Fri Aug 5 201113:29Bucs sign QB Jonathan Crompton
Bucs signed QB Jonathan Crompton, formerly of the Patriots.
He's likely no more than a camp arm behind Joshes Freeman and Johnson and third-stringer Rudy Carpenter, whom the Bucs are said to be high on. Crompton was a good-looking prospect after a big senior year at Tennessee, but two quality organizations (San Diego, New England) have already given up on him.

Sat Sep 4 201014:58Crompton relasedby Chargers
Chargers waived QB Jonathan Crompton.
Crompton became a hot name leading up to the draft, so it's a bit surprising that the Chargers are exposing him to waivers. With backup Billy Volek set to become a free agent in 2011, the Chargers are apparently ready to look elsewhere for Philip Rivers' No. 2. QB-needy teams like the Bills should be willing to kick the tire here.
Wed Jun 2 201015:25Chargers sign rookie QB Crompton
Chargers signed QB Jonathan Crompton to a four-year contract.
One of the biggest sleepers in April's draft, Crompton flourished down the stretch of his senior year under Lane Kiffin at Tennessee, excelling in a pro-style offense. Crompton projects as Billy Volek's eventual replacement behind Philip Rivers, assuming the Chargers don't Whitehurst him out of town.

Sat Apr 24 201014:18Chargers pick Crompton
Chargers selected Tennessee QB Jonathan Crompton with the No. 168 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
Though Crompton's body of work during a five-year stay in Knoxville was unimpressive overall, he took off in Lane Kiffin's pro-style scheme as a fifth-year senior, posting a 22:6 TD-to-INT ratio in the Vols' last ten games and taking just 12 sacks all regular season. We were so impressed with Crompton during the stretch run that we rated him the No. 5 overall QB in this draft, while some legit scouting services had him even higher. In San Diego, he'll vie to be the next Charlie Whitehurst, or perhaps take over Billy Volek's backup job in 2011.
