It's the second time Crompton has been waived this week. He was only re-signed to serve as Kirk Cousins' backup in the preseason finale. Smith is a practice squad candidate.

We were so impressed with Crompton during the stretch run that we rated him the No. 5 overall QB in this draft, while some legit scouting services had him even higher. In San Diego, he'll vie to be the next Charlie Whitehurst, or perhaps take over Billy Volek's backup job in 2011.
