Lions waived RB Eldra Buckley. |
He's the odd man out after Detroit re-signed Kevin Smith. Buckley didn't receive a carry in two games after being signed in mid-October, contributing mostly on special teams. |

Fri Oct 21 2011 | 10:58 | Lions sign RB Eldra Buckley |
Lions signed RB Eldra Buckley, formerly of the Eagles. |
Buckley tried out Thursday alongside Jalen Parmele, who apparently didn't make it through the work out. With Jahvid Best (concussion) out this week and Jerome Harrison (brain tumor) out for the season, Buckley will add depth behind Maurice Morris and Keiland Williams. The Lions are in trouble if Buckley ever has to take on a major ball-carrying role. |

Thu Oct 20 2011 | 15:31 | Lions work out RB Eldra Buckley |
Lions worked out free agent RB Eldra Buckley on Thursday. |
A undisclosed second running back was also present but didn't finish the workout. Primarily a special teamer with the Eagles in 2009-2010, Buckley averaged just 3.1 yards on 36 carries. He'd be nothing more than insurance if signed. Although PFT's Mike Florio suggested the Lions should kick the tires on Tiki Barber, there are no indications that the team interested. |

Wed Mar 2 2011 | 15:55 | Eagles tender RB Buckley |
Eagles tendered exclusive rights free agent RB Eldra Buckley. |
Buckley, 26 in June, hasn't developed into a realistic ball-carrying option, but did have seven special teams tackles last season. As an exclusive rights free agent, he'll earn $480,000 this season if he again makes the final 53. |

Thu Oct 14 2010 | 12:02 | Buckley getting second-team reps |
Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said that Eldra Buckley is now getting the second-team reps at running back after the Mike Bell/Jerome Harrison trade. |
When asked about Harrison, Mornhinweg replied, "We'll see (how quickly he plays). I haven't even met him." There's a good chance once he gets settled in that Harrison will take over the backup job behind LeSean McCoy, but the job won't just be handed to him. |
