Thu Aug 7 201412:21Sims released by Cardinals
Sims has been released by the Cardinals.
Sims, who had joined the Cards in order to bolster the team's inside linebacker depth after Daryl Washington was suspended, was listed as a third-stringer on the team's initial depth chart behind Larry Foote and Kenny Demens, with his release bumping Keenan Clayton up a notch.
Tue Jun 3 201413:47Cardinals sign Ernie Sims to provide LB depth
Cardinals signed ILB Ernie Sims.
Sims will provide depth at inside linebacker after the Cardinals lost Daryl Washington to a yearlong suspension last week. Arizona will be in trouble if Sims is forced to play significant snaps. He was abused in a dozen 2013 games for Dallas. The Cardinals are severely lacking depth at the position.

Tue May 7 201308:27Ernie Sims on the roster bubble in Dallas
Cowboys LB Ernie Sims is not considered a lock to make the final roster.
Sims singed a minimum deal with no signing bonus or guarantees, so he'll have to prove his worth in training camp. The former No. 9 overall pick was a liability when asked to fill in on the Cowboys' decimated linebacker corps last year. Sims should fare better as new defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin moves the unit to a 4-3.

Mon Mar 18 201316:00Cowboys re-sign LB Ernie Sims
Cowboys re-signed LB Ernie Sims to a one-year contract.
28-year-old Sims was signed off the street last season and racked up 44 tackles across ten appearances, starting six games. His performance was generally poor on the field, but the Cowboys hope 5-foot-11, 230-pound Sims will be more effective in Monte Kiffin's new 4-3 defense. He'll compete for a backup job.

Sun Mar 3 201315:05Ernie Sims not expected back with Cowboys?
ESPN Dallas doesn't expect the Cowboys to re-sign free agent LB Ernie Sims.
The Dallas Morning News said it was "likely" that Sims would be back, but the Cowboys are expected to go younger at the position. He shouldn't have much of a market, so the Cowboys will likely keep Sims' phone number handy for future purposes.

Tue Feb 19 201316:49Cowboys likely to re-sign LB Ernie Sims?
The Dallas Morning News considers the Cowboys likely to re-sign free agent LB Ernie Sims.
Sims will come cheap, and reporter David Moore believes he could compete for a starting job with the Cowboys' switch to a 4-3 defense shifting DeMarcus Ware to end. Even if he doesn't start, Sims represents highly-experienced veteran depth. It's worth noting that Sims struggled filling in for an injured Sean Lee and Bruce Carter last season.

Fri Dec 21 201215:05Ernie Sims expected to play in Week 16
Cowboys DC Rob Ryan says ILB Ernie Sims (concussion) will be active for Week 16 against the Saints.
It's a bit of a relief for Dallas, which otherwise would have had to trot out Alex Albright alongside Dan Connor as starting inside linebackers. Either way, the seams and underneath portions of the Cowboys' defense are vulnerable entering Sunday's matchup with Jimmy Graham and Darren Sproles.

Sun Dec 16 201218:22Ernie Sims knocked out with concussion
Cowboys ILB Ernie Sims was forced from Dallas' Week 15 game against the Steelers with a concussion.
It's a hard-knock life for Cowboys inside 'backers. Sims was elevated to the starting lineup after Sean Lee and Bruce Carter suffered season-ending injuries. The Cowboys are down to a trio of replacement-level talents opposite Dan Connor.

Fri Nov 2 201215:31Ernie Sims to start in Week 9
Ernie Sims will be the Cowboys' starting inside linebacker in Week 9 with Dan Connor (stingers) out this week.
The Cowboys just signed Sims a week ago, and they were pleased with his performance off the bench in last week's loss to the Giants. Sims has quickly passed Orie Lemon and Alex Albright on the depth chart, and DC Rob Ryan trusts him to play in the nickel package already. He's worth a desperation look in IDP leagues.

Wed Oct 24 201210:08Ernie Sims expected to sign with Cowboys
Free agent LB Ernie Sims is expected to sign with the Cowboys.
Sean Lee (turf toe) is done for the year, leaving the Cowboys thin at linebacker. Dan Connor and Bruce Carter will start on the inside, with Orie Lemon backing them up. Sims, who has been on the street since the end of last season, has spent most of his career as a 4-3 outside 'backer. Rob Ryan runs a 3-4 scheme in Dallas.

Mon Sep 12 201117:40Colts LB Ernie Sims out indefinitely
Colts LB Ernie Sims is in danger of missing an "extended period" with a sprained knee.
It sounds like a sprained MCL, though that hasn't been confirmed and probably won't be. In Week 1, the Colts started Kavell Conner and Pat Angerer at the outside linebacker spots. Sims backs up Conner and plays on special teams.

Mon Aug 29 201118:15Ernie Sims returns from his appendectomy
Colts LB Ernie Sims has returned from his appendectomy and is competing for a nickel linebacker job.
Sims has a good chance at a roster spot, but he won't overtake weak-side 'backer Kavell Conner before Week 1. Sims racked up eight tackles in the Colts' third preseason game. He'll be worth an IDP look if Conner goes down this year.

Mon Aug 8 201111:31Ernie Sims out two weeks after appendectomy
Ernie Sims is expected to be sidelined two weeks after having an appendectomy Sunday.
Tough break for the Colts, who just signed Sims last week to compete for the starting weak-side linebacker job. Now Kavell Conner, who is back from a dislocated pinkie, gets a big leg up in the competition.

Tue Aug 2 201113:29Colts sign WLB Ernie Sims
Colts signed WLB Ernie Sims, formerly of the Eagles.
Once a dynamic young outside linebacker in Rod Marinelli's Tampa 2 defense, Sims returns to a similar scheme in Indianapolis. The Colts lost Clint Session when the Jaguars overpaid, leaving a hole at weak-side linebacker. Sims, 26, will compete for that position with second-year man Kavell Conner. Pat Angerer should slot in at "Sam" with Gary Brackett staying in the middle.

Wed Mar 2 201116:09Eagles don't tender Sims, Jordan, Harrison
The Eagles did not extend restricted free agent tenders to OLBs Ernis Sims and Akeem Jordan, and RB Jerome Harrison.
It's not like the tenders would've stuck -- each is at least a four-year veteran -- but the Eagles are letting go pretty valuable players here. They will all be unrestricted free agents after the next CBA. Sims does have plenty of flaws, but started 15 games last season. Harrison was excellent after a midseason trade from Cleveland, averaging 6.0 yards per carry as an Eagle.

Mon Jan 10 201109:36Eagles will let Sims walk this offseason?
There is a "good chance" the Eagles let impending free agent WLB Ernie Sims walk, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The Inquirer notes that in Andy Reid's 12 seasons, he has had 11 different weak-side linebackers. They are unlikely to spend the money to keep the former Lion. Sims had more bark than bite this year, compiling 55 tackles and two sacks in 15 games. He lost some nickel snaps to Akeem Jordan late in the year.

Thu Dec 30 201019:47Sims to lose nickel duties to Jordan?
Defensive coordinator Sean McDermott is considering replacing WLB Ernie Sims with Akeem Jordan in nickel situations.
The opening day SAM linebacker, Jordan has been limited to special teams since losing his job to Moise Fokou. This could be the beginning of the end for Sims, as there are whispers in Philly that Jamar Cheney will stay in the middle with Stewart Bradley moving to the outside.
