Tue Jan 10 201213:33Kerry Collins never had concussion symptoms?
A source tells the Indianapolis Star that Kerry Collins didn't actually have "concussion-like symptoms" when the Colts sent him to injured reserve in late October.
Collins saw the writing on the wall, realized he wasn't helping a team going nowhere, and reportedly approached the front office about letting him retire in Nashville. The source also indicated that Collins gave the Colts "a break" on the $4 million contract signed just before the start of the season.

Mon Oct 31 201110:15Kerry Collins says he's retiring
Kerry Collins (injured reserve, concussion) said he's "99 percent sure" he's going to retire.
Collins, 38, wouldn't find much of a market for his services even if he wanted to play in 2012. In three starts for the Colts this season, he completed just 48.9 percent of his passes and couldn't move in the pocket. "When you start dealing with concussions at my age and this point in my career, I'm inclined to think this is going to be it for me," Collins said.

Tue Oct 25 201118:03Colts QB Kerry Collins done for the season
Colts placed QB Kerry Collins (concussion) on injured reserve, ending his season.
There's no word on the injury that will end Collins season, though we suspect it's related to the concussion sustained a month ago. The Colts will go forward with Dan Orlovsky as Curtis Painter's backup. Indy lured Collins out of retirement in late August, so there's a good chance he's played his last NFL snap two months before his 39th birthday.

Sun Oct 16 201111:41Kerry Collins inactive for Colts
Colts declared Kerry Collins (concussion) inactive for Sunday's game against the Bengals.
Dan Orlovsky will back up Curtis Painter today. Also inactive for the Colts is Joseph Addai (hamstring), who didn't even make the trip to Cincy. And with LT Anthony Castonzo (ankle) still out, Indy is shuffling their offensive line again. Jeff Linkenbach starts at left tackle, Ryan Diem returns at right tackle and Mike Pollak fills in at right guard. Other Colts inactives: QB Peyton Manning, DT Drake Nevis, DE Jerry Hughes and CB Kevin Thomas.

Thu Oct 13 201117:52Kerry Collins resumes practicing
Kerry Collins (concussion) has resumed practicing this week, albeit on a limited basis.
It's too early to tell if it will be Collins or Dan Orlovsky backing up Curtis Painter this week. Coach Jim Caldwell confirmed that Painter is his starter going forward, so Collins will remain in a backup capacity the rest of the season.

Wed Oct 12 201112:59Collins still not cleared
Kerry Collins (concussion) has still not been medically cleared.
The Colts have to be kicking themselves for giving Collins that $4 million guaranteed for this season. Curtis Painter has proven to be a much better option at the quarterback position.

Thu Oct 6 201117:14Kerry Collins returns to practice Thursday
Kerry Collins (concussion) returned to Colts practice Thursday.
Collins put in a limited session, his first practice of any kind since Week 3. Good news for the veteran signal caller, but barring injury to Curtis Painter, it appears his home will be on the bench going forward. He shouldn't be owned in any format.

Wed Oct 5 201116:35Caldwell: Kerry Collins may miss Week 5
Colts coach Jim Caldwell indicated Wednesday that Kerry Collins (concussion) is unlikely to be available for Week 5.
"Kerry has not been cleared as of yet," Caldwell said. "They're allowing him to do a little bit but not much. So at this point in time Curtis (Painter) is our starter." There are whispers in Indianapolis that Collins was never even concussed, and that the Colts' locker room was begging for Painter. It's just not going to be pretty this week behind what may be the worst offensive line fielded by any team in football during Week 5.

Mon Oct 3 201119:17Colts declare Week 4 inactives
Colts declared QB Kerry Collins, WR Anthony Gonzalez, QB Peyton Manning, CB Kevin Thomas, LB Ernie Sims, RG Ryan Diem, and DT Fili Moala inactive for Monday night's game against Tampa Bay.
Moala, in some circles regarded as the Colts' best defensive tackle, is inactive because of an ankle injury. His absence could make life a bit easier on LeGarrette Blount on up-the-middle runs. Curtis Painter is starting at quarterback, with Dan Orlovsky backing him up. Sims is out with a bad knee.

Sat Oct 1 201117:22Collins officially questionable for Week 4
Kerry Collins (concussion) is listed as questionable for Week 4 against the Bucs.
Collins failed to practice all week, and the Colts will likely be forced to go with only Dan Orlovsky behind Curtis Painter on Monday evening. HC Jim Caldwell intimated on Friday that Collins will not be reinstalled as the starter even once he's back to full health.

Thu Sep 29 201112:24Kerry Collins won't practice Thursday
Kerry Collins (possible concussion) won't practice Thursday.
The Colts are being typically evasive about Collins' status, declining to even confirm that he has suffered a concussion. Regardless, the veteran almost certainly won't be under center come Monday night. Curtis Painter, who has thrown 39 career passes in the NFL, is expected to get the nod.

Mon Sep 26 201107:59Colts are considering change at quarterback
Coach Jim Caldwell conceded that he is considering a change at quarterback even if Kerry Collins (possible concussion) is cleared for Week 4.
Collins left Sunday night's loss to the Steelers in the third quarter but the Colts have not said whether he suffered a concussion. Regardless, Caldwell said health wouldn't be the only factor in choosing his starter next week, adding he would "look at all the other factors involved." In three games this year, Collins is completing just 49.0 percent of his passes, is averaging just 160.3 passing yards per game and has tossed a meager two touchdowns. Curtis Painter couldn't be much worse.

Mon Sep 26 201101:29Kerry Collins' status yet to be updated
The Colts have yet to update Kerry Collins' status after he was knocked out of Sunday's loss to the Steelers in the third quater with a possible concussion.
Indy will apparently wait until Monday to clarify its starting quarterback's status. Collins was having a typically poor game before going down, completing only 13-of-29 passes for 93 yards while continually making poor throws on timing routes. Even if Collins ends up escaping a concussion, the Colts may think long and hard about giving Curtis Painter a shot in Week 4 against the Bucs.

Kerry Collins was forced from Sunday's game against the Steelers with a possible concussion.
Curtis Painter was at the helm for the Colts' first drive of the fourth quarter. If Collins is indeed concussed, he's obviously done for the night, and will immediately become questionable for Week 4. Stay tuned.

Wed Sep 21 201117:11Kerry Collins limited in Wednesday's practice
Kerry Collins (shoulder) was limited in Colts practice Wednesday.
Collins turns 39 years old in a few months. His reps were ostensibly cut because of the age and beating he's taking. He's expected to start in Week 3.

Wed Sep 21 201113:16Caldwell supports Collins as Colts' starter
Coach Jim Caldwell gave Kerry Collins a vote of confidence Wednesday, confirming that the struggling quarterback will start in Week 3 at Pittsburgh.
Through two starts, Collins has completed 50.7 percent of his passes with a 5.6 YPA, four turnovers, and five sacks taken. The five sacks have cost the Colts 40 yards, so each has been significant. Collins is a deliberate-moving pocket passer playing behind one of the league's worst offensive lines. It's going to be another ugly game against the Steelers on Sunday night.

Mon Sep 12 201114:00Colts coach: Offensive problems 'correctable'
Coach Jim Caldwell insisted Monday that the Colts' offensive struggles in Week 1 are all "correctable" going forward.
We'd have a lot more faith if it were Peyton Manning and Tom Moore making the corrections. "There is no question I believe it's all correctable," Caldwell said. "Our team is going to get better and improve." Trouble is, it may get worse before it gets better. The NFL now has a blueprint on the Kerry Collins-led offense, and the talent isn't nearly as good as it seemed with Manning at QB.
