Spaeth (hand) is listed as active for Monday's game against the Chargers.
Spaeth's return to action will bolster the team's depth at tight end behind starter Heath Miller, but he's not involved enough in the team's offense to be a fantasy lineup consideration.

Spaeth (hand) is listed as probable for Monday's game against the Chargers.
Spaeth was unable to play last week due to a broken bone in his hand, but the setback will not prevent him from taking the field in Week 5. He will slot back in as the backup tight end behind Heath Miller.

Spaeth (hand) is inactive for Thursday's game against the Ravens, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac reports.
Spaeth was hoping to play with a broken hand, but he'll need to miss at least one game. Although Heath Miller is the Steelers' only active tight end, the team does have two fullbacks on the roster for Thursday's game.

Spaeth (broken hand) hopes to play against Baltimore despite wearing a cast, PennLive.com reports.
Used mostly for his blocking skills, Spaeth has not been targeted once this season. As a result, the cast shouldn't prevent him from playing, although Coach Mike Tomlin said how well he performs with the cast in practice will determine if he plays this week.
Mon Mar 9 201517:25The Steelers have re-signed Spaeth
The Steelers have re-signed Spaeth, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
With just three catches for 46 yards in 15 games last season, Spaeth is off the fantasy radar, but the Steelers will keep him around since he is a capable blocker for the team, notably in the running game.

Spaeth was limited to blocking in Pittsburgh's 27-17 win over Cincinnati on Sunday night, receiving no looks from Ben Roethlisberger.
Spaeth was clearly an afterthought in the Steelers' passing game all season, finishing the season with just three catches on four targets for 46 yards and a touchdown. His lone score came against the Ravens earlier this season, who the Steelers host in a wild card game on Saturday.

Spaeth had one catch for 33 yards and a touchdown in Pittsburgh's 43-23 win over Baltimore on Sunday.
The catch was Spaeth's first of the season and was, in fact, his first target of the season as well. He also scored a 2-point conversion after a botched hold by punter Brad Wing. Despite scoring 10 touchdowns on just 51 career receptions, Spaeth is difficult to start unless given the starting tight end role outright over Heath Miller.

Spaeth survived the Steelers' final roster cuts, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Spaeth and Michael Palmer held off seventh-round draft pick Rob Blanchflower and David Paulson to make the 53 man roster, and will serve as a back-up to Heath Miller.

Tue Sep 3 201316:20Steelers stash TE Spaeth on short-term IR

Tue Aug 13 201313:59Spaeth an IR/designated to return candidate
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports Steelers TE Matt Spaeth (foot surgery) is a candidate for injured reserve/designated to return.
Spaeth is out 8-10 weeks after undergoing Lisfranc surgery. The Steelers' decision on Spaeth will likely depend on how confident they are about Heath Miller's (ACL) health. Spaeth is not a difference-making talent. The Steelers might be best off saving their IR/designated to return slot.

Sun Aug 11 201315:10Matt Spaeth needs Lisfranc surgery
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin revealed TE Matt Spaeth needed surgery to repair his Lisfranc injury.
The surgery indicates Spaeth's foot was fractured as opposed to sprained, as initial reports claimed. With Heath Miller (knee) also on the shelf indefinitely, the Steelers are woefully thin at tight end, where David Paulson essentially played the entire preseason opener. For the Steelers' wide receivers -- who'll be leaned on more heavily -- it's positive fantasy football news.

Fri Aug 9 201318:07Steelers TE Spaeth (Lisfranc) out 8-10 weeks
Steelers TE Matt Spaeth will be sidelined 8-10 weeks with a Lisfranc foot sprain.
The Steelers are woefully thin at tight end. With Heath Miller still working his way back from a shredded knee, Spaeth was penciled in as the top tight end. He's not a pass catcher, but Spaeth is a solid in-line blocker. Lisfranc injuries have proven tough to come back from, so it's quite possible Spaeth misses the entire season. 2012 seventh-rounder David Paulson now sits atop the depth chart. Look for the Steelers to make three-wide their base offensive package.

Fri Aug 2 201310:26Spaeth projected to open as starting TE
ESPN AFC North blogger Jamison Hensley projects Matt Spaeth as the Steelers' Week 1 starter at tight end.
Heath Miller (torn ACL, MCL, and PCL) is fully expected to remain on the PUP list for at least the first six weeks of the regular season. Spaeth, a solid blocker but nothing more, and David Paulson will try to hold down the fort in Miller's absence. Look for the Steelers to line up in more three-wide sets.

Wed Mar 13 201313:06Bears part ways with TE Matt Spaeth
Bears released TE Matt Spaeth.
It's a move that could be seen coming from a mile away after the Bears signed Martellus Bennett. Spaeth had a $500,000 roster bonus due on Thursday. A pure blocker with just 49 catches in six years, Spaeth's market will be slow developing.

Fri Jan 11 201308:56Bears TE Spaeth to undergo knee scope
Bears TE Matt Spaeth will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery Friday.
Spaeth said the clean-up is "no big deal" and that he would "be good to go in no time" for offseason workouts. The Bears will look to upgrade at the position this offseason. Spaeth's roster spot is in jeopardy with a new coaching staff coming in.
