Tue Apr 15 201412:43Graham Harrell joining Cougars coaching staff
Free agent QB Graham Harrell has accepted a position on the Washington State coaching staff.
Harrell played for current Cougars coach Mike Leach at Texas Tech from 2004-2008. Harrell attempted four passes for the Packers in 2012 and signed with the team as an undrafted free agent in 2009. He was cut by Green Bay last August and latched on with the Jets before being apart of final cuts.

Wed Aug 28 201300:04Jets agree to terms w/ Pack castoff Harrell
Jets agreed to terms with QB Graham Harrell, formerly of the Packers.
It's entirely unclear why, as even if Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith don't play in Thursday's preseason finale, the Jets still have Greg McElroy and Matt Simms to soak up reps. Alas, the Jets. Perhaps the perpetually banged up McElroy won't play. He's dealing with an ankle injury. Either way, Harrell has zero chance at a roster spot. He was uniquely bad for the Packers this summer.

Sat Aug 24 201315:59Packers cut QB Graham Harrell, V.Y. new No. 2
Packers waived QB Graham Harrell.
The writing was on the wall. Vince Young was signed earlier this month, and he sealed up backup duties in Friday night's regular season dress rehearsal against the Raiders by completing 6-of-7 passes for 41 yards and a touchdown. V.Y. added 39 yards on the ground. Popgun-armed Harrell completed just 6-of-13 passes for 49 yards and through three preseason games, he completed just 23-of-42 passes (54.8 percent) for 169 yards (4.02 YPA) and one interception.

Fri Aug 23 201322:08Graham Harrell continues poor preseason
Packers QB Graham Harrell completed 6-of-14 passes for 49 yards in Friday night's preseason game.
Harrell didn't get much O-Line help versus a ferocious Seahawks front seven, but also didn't help himself with a noodle arm and scattershot accuracy. He's a difficult player to watch and had a limiting effect on Green Bay's offense. Look for Harrell to be waived in early September. Through three preseason games, Harrell is 23-of-43 (53.5 percent) for 169 yards (3.93 YPA), an interception, and two fumbles. He's turned the ball over twice.

Tue May 28 201323:452013 make-or-break year for Harrell?
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel considers 2013 a "make-or-break" year for backup Packers QB Graham Harrell.
Harrell - a 2009 undrafted free agent who's attempted just four passes in three years with the Pack - is expected to be pushed by 2012 seventh-rounder B.J. Coleman. Neither player is a good option behind Aaron Rodgers. The Packers would be in major trouble were Rodgers to go down. Rodgers has missed just two games in five years since replacing Brett Favre.

Wed Aug 22 201222:38Graham Harrell to be left off Packers roster?
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel projects backup QB Graham Harrell to be left off the Packers' final roster.
Harrell might be able to save himself with a monster finish to the preseason, but for now he's looking like a third-stringer at best. The Journal-Sentinel projects "someone else" -- perhaps a Colt McCoy or Tarvaris Jackson -- to fill the backup spot behind Aaron Rodgers. Beat writer Rob Reischel projects seventh-round rookie B.J. Coleman to be left off the final roster, as well.

Tue Aug 21 201216:27Thompson wants to see Harrell improve
Packers GM Ted Thompson wants to see "continued improvement" and a "bounce back" game from backup QB Graham Harrell this week.
Although coach Mike McCarthy placed much of the blame for Harrell's poor performance to date on the second-team offensive line, Thompson concedes that he does "fish from time to time" on exploratory trade calls. Even if Harrell graded out better than we might expect -- as McCarthy stated Tuesday -- it's hard to imagine a Super Bowl contender going forward with him as the No. 2 QB.

Fri Aug 17 201200:25Graham Harrell brutal against the Browns
Packers backup QB Graham Harrell completed just 12-of-24 passes for 100 yards and two interceptions in Green Bay's second preseason game Saturday night against the Browns.
He scrambled three times for 23 yards. Harrell didn't get a ton of help from his teammates, but he also seemed out of his league going against Browns second-team defenders. Harrell possesses a weak arm and becomes clearly uncomfortable when pressured, diminishing his productivity. We suspect the Packers played Harrell so much in this game to determine whether he can be Aaron Rodgers' primary 2012 backup. If so, Harrell flunked this audition.

Wed Jul 11 201221:18Packers to look for veteran backup?
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel suggests that the Packers will go searching for a veteran backup quarterback if Graham Harrell "flops" in camp.
Harrell went undrafted in 2009 because he lacked velocity and arm strength. Coach Mike McCarthy insists he's throwing with more power than ever, but Harrell has attempted zero career NFL passes and struggled last preseason. "This is clearly his best opportunity of his professional career," said McCarthy of Harrell. "He's getting better. It's right there for him as far as being the No. 2."

Tue Jun 19 201209:48Packers aren't 'flinching' at quarterback
According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the Packers aren't "flinching" at quarterback, and the No. 2 job remains Graham Harrell's to lose.
Harrell has attempted zero career passes since coming into the league in 2009, but he'll supposedly enter the season as Aaron Rodgers' primary backup. It would be far from surprising, however, if the Packers pursue a veteran if Harrell is shaky in early preseason action.

Sun Apr 29 201214:12Packers won't add a veteran quarterback
The Packers are not expected to sign a veteran quarterback.
After losing Matt Flynn to Seattle, the Packers appear prepared to head into the 2012 season with Graham Harrell as Aaron Rodgers' primary backup. Seventh-round pick B.J. Coleman and former Arena League star Nick Hill will compete for the No. 3 job.

Sun Apr 1 201209:04Packers have 'high hopes' for QB Harrell
Although the Packers plan to select a development quarterback late in the draft, coach Mike McCarthy has "high hopes" for Graham Harrell.
After McCarthy touted Harrell as the backup of the future in training camp last August, the Packers more than doubled his practice squad salary. The team went on to promote Harrell to the 53-man roster in December to prevent the Bills from poaching him. The former Texas Tech star is slated to replace Matt Flynn as Aaron Rodgers' primary backup.

Thu Mar 1 201214:46McCarthy hopes Harrell can jump to No. 2 QB
Coach Mike McCarthy is "hopeful" that Graham Harrell can make the move from No. 3 to primary backup quarterback this year.
"I think he's got instincts and toughness," said McCarthy. "I want to take him to the quarterback school. I like his makeup." McCarthy will likely target a mid-to-late round prospect as well. Former Arena Football League southpaw Nick Hill is third on the depth chart.

Thu Dec 8 201100:09Bills tried signing Harrell away from Packers
The Packers promoted QB Graham Harrell from their practice squad to the 53-man roster because the Bills were trying to lure him to Buffalo.
Harrell decided to stay in Green Bay because current backup Matt Flynn is an impending free agent. The Packers are high on Harrell as a potential long-term No. 2 quarterback after a couple of years in the system. The Bills would have put Harrell behind Ryan Fitzpatrick (signed through 2017) and Tyler Thigpen (under control through 2013). Harrell made the right choice.

Wed Dec 7 201112:12Graham Harrell signed to active roster
Packers signed QB Graham Harrell.
This could be a case of another team trying to poach Harrell off the Packers' practice squad. Aaron Rodgers and Matt Flynn have no known injuries.

Sat Sep 17 201112:41Harrell raking it in on the practice squad
The Packers are paying practice squad QB Graham Harrell $12,500 per week, which is more than double the practice squad minimum of $5,700 per week.
Harrell was surprisingly waived earlier this month after being touted by HC Mike McCarthy as the Packers' potential backup quarterback of the future during training camp. That huge salary makes it clear, however, that Green Bay is still hoping Harrell can step in behind Aaron Rodgers in 2012 with current backup Matt Flynn likely to depart via free agency next offseason.

Sat Sep 3 201115:06Pack surprisingly waive Graham Harrell
Packers waived QB Graham Harrell.
The move comes as a surprise since HC Mike McCarthy touted Harrell as the Packers' backup of the future less than a month ago, and said he was "scared to lose him." It also leaves Green Bay with only Matt Flynn behind Aaron Rodgers. Flynn is set to become a free agent next offseason. Harrell did turn in a pedestrian preseason, however, completing 33-of-57 passes for 287 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. The Packers will look to stash him on their practice squad if he makes it through waivers.

Thu Aug 11 201100:07Harrell to be Packers' backup of future?
Coach Mike McCarthy believes Graham Harrell could "absolutely" emerge as the Packers' backup quarterback of the future.
"I think so," McCarthy said. "He's headed that way." Current backup Matt Flynn is in a contract year, and McCarthy says the Packers promoted Harrell off their practice squad last December because they were "scared to lose him." McCarthy praised Harrell's comfort in the shotgun, which the Packers love to use.

Packers signed QB Graham Harrell from their practice squad.
Harrell will serve as a backup behind fill-in Matt Flynn. He takes the place of Anthony Smith on the active roster.
