Raiders waived QB Rhett Bomar.
Bomar has bounced around the league since being selected in the fifth round by the Giants back in 2009. He had no chance of cracking the Raiders' 53-man roster with Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, and Terrelle Pryor in the picture.

Mon Aug 29 201109:30Vikings waive Rhett Bomar
Vikings waived QB Rhett Bomar.
The writing was on the wall for Bomar when the Vikings added Donovan McNabb and Christian Ponder this offseason. The Giants' 2009 fifth-round pick will likely get more chances in the league thanks to his strong arm. The Vikings also waived TE Ed Barham, WR Andre Holmes, OL Conan Amituanai, DT Colby Whitlock, LB Kyle O'Donnell, LB Jonathan Gilmore, DB Chris Adingupu, DB Simeon Castille and K Nate Whitaker. Their roster stands at 80.

Sun Aug 7 201123:26Rhett Bomar arrested for drunken-driving
Vikings QB Rhett Bomar was arrested early Sunday on third-degree drunken driving charges.
Bomar also had issues with drinking in college, before his transfer from Oklahoma to Sam Houston State. Details of the arrest are unclear, but Bomar was booked near the Vikings' training camp facility in Mankato, Minnesota. Already buried on the depth chart, the arrest will likely end his time with the Vikes.

Thu Dec 23 201009:36Vikings evaluating Bomar for future
Vikings interim coach Leslie Frazier said Rhett Bomar was signed because the team needed a "live arm," but he added that Bomar will be evaluated for the future, as well.
The Vikings quarterback situation for 2011 is completely up in the air with Brett Favre slated to retire and Tarvaris Jackson entering free agency, so Bomar will be given consideration for a future role along with Joe Webb. Frazier said he's been impressed in the short time Bomar has been with the Vikes and that his strong arm "jumps out at you right away."

Mon Dec 20 201013:56Vikings reportedly to sign Rhett Bomar
The Vikings are reportedly set to sign QB Rhett Bomar off the Giants' practice squad.
Bomar would become the fifth quarterback on Minnesota's roster, so his addition figures to mean Patrick Ramsey will be released. Either way, it appears the out-of-contention Vikings are stocking up on as many young QBs for the stretch run as possible, so that they can carry them onto their offseason roster. Brett Favre isn't expected back, and Tarvaris Jackson is an impending free agent. Joe Webb will enter the spring atop the depth chart.

Sun Sep 5 201015:00Giants form practice squad
Giants signed QB Rhett Bomar, TEs Bear Pascoe and Jake Ballard, C Jim Cordle, DT Nate Collins, CB Seth Williams, and S Sha'reff Rashad to their practice squad.
Bomar received unearned publicity in camp when he was briefly elevated to second on the depth chart, but the Giants have little confidence in him. The rest of the league agrees. Rashad just barely missed out on a roster spot. He'll be the first player activated if one of the safeties goes down.
Fri Aug 27 201009:07Bomar in the driver's seat for No. 2 job?
Giants coach Tom Coughlin hinted that Rhett Bomar may be able to overtake No. 2 QB Jim Sorgi (shoulder) with a strong performance Saturday.
Bomar played the entire game against the Steelers last week and went 13-of-26 for 167 yards with an interception. The numbers aren't great, but Coughlin came away impressed. Sorgi is trying to get back on the practice field as soon as Monday to reassert control of the backup gig.

Giants QB Rhett Bomar will get a majority of the snaps in Saturday's preseason matchup against the Steelers.
With Eli Manning (forehead) and Jim Sorgi (shoulder) out, Bomar will have a chance to showcase his talent. He'll be playing for the practice squad this season unless he pulls a Victor Cruz Saturday.

Tue Jul 20 201015:11Bomar on the roster bubble this summer
Rhett Bomar, the Giants' 2008 fifth-rounder, is squarely on the roster bubble this summer.
Offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride essentially anointed veteran Jim Sorgi the backup this offseason, and the Giants are unlikely to carry three QBs. Bomar is headed back to the practice for a second straight season unless he turns heads in camp.
