Saints claimed CB Jerome Murphy off waivers from the Rams.
The 65th overall pick in the 2010 draft reunites with Steve Spagnuolo, who helped draft Murphy out of South Florida three Aprils ago. Murphy is a physical corner who couldn't stay healthy in St. Louis, but can play press coverage and zone coverage and should already have a solid grasp on New Orleans' defense. He'll push Johnny Patrick and Corey White for snaps in sub-packages.

Rams CB Jerome Murphy could be sidelined for up to 10 weeks after breaking his ankle on Friday.
A third-round pick in 2010, Murphy tallied 30 tackles and one interception in 14 games as a rookie last season. If he begins the regular season on the PUP list, there's a pretty good chance he would be ready to return when first eligible in Week 8.

Tue Mar 15 201118:55Rams don't consider Murphy a safety, yet
The Rams have not considered moving 2010 third-round pick Jerome Murphy to safety.
St. Louis has at least one glaring hole at safety, but coach Steve Spagnuolo has never valued the position highly, and isn't about to move last year's third-round pick off a much more valuable position. Perhaps the Rams would reconsider if a corner like Prince Amukamara fell into their laps at No. 14 overall.

Rams CB Jerome Murphy broke a pinky finger in Sunday's game, but coach Steve Spagnuolo expects the rookie to play through the injury.

A third-round pick, Murphy has shown to be a reliable tackler in his rookie season, but he's got some work to do in coverage.

Sat Apr 24 201009:21Rams see Murphy as a corner
The Rams have third-round pick Jerome Murphy penciled in as a cornerback.
Murphy split time between corner and safety at South Florida. He'll be a very physical corner and should adapt well to the Rams' press coverage scheme. Look for Murphy to step in on special teams right away while pushing for a starting corner job.

Fri Apr 23 201020:40Rams draft Jerome Murphy
Rams selected South Florida CB Jerome Murphy with the No. 65 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
Murphy, a two-year starter, was a big-hitting defensive back for the Bulls' stout defense, led the team in interceptions (4) as a senior, and has a rock-solid size/speed combo with a sub-4.5 forty time at 6-foot-0 and 190 pounds. He also played some safety at USF, but will likely focus on corner in the Rams' secondary. Murphy could push for a starting job immediately.
