Free agents RB Harvey Unga, CB Pat Lee, RB Kendial Lawrence, and FB Dorin Dickerson are among 35 players participating in Panthers rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.
Unga was a seventh-round pick by the Bears in the 2010 Supplemental draft. Lee, 30, has appeared in 47 career games but none since 2012. Dickerson can fly and play fullback, receiver, or tight end. Lawrence spent last summer with Dallas.

Bears promoted RB Harvey Unga from the practice squad.
DE Cheta Ozougwu was waived in a corresponding roster move. With Armando Allen (knee, questionable) looking shaky for Sunday, Unga could serve as the Bears' third-string back behind Matt Forte and Kahlil Bell against the Lions.

Bears waived RB Harvey Unga.
And an era ends. 25-year-old Unga generated a ton of hype among apparently bored NFL observers leading up to the 2010 supplemental draft. He wound up being taken in the seventh round and never appeared in a game. A fullback-tailback 'tweener, Unga does not possesses running ability to play in the league.

Mon Apr 16 201216:39Bears reinstate Harvey Unga
Bears reinstated FB/RB Harvey Unga from the reserve/left squad list.
Unga spent all of the 2011 season on the list after leaving training camp to attend to a "personal matter" in mid-August. Unga will be squarely on the roster bubble in 2012. Most likely, he won't end up making it through final cuts.

Bears placed RB Harvey Unga on the reserve/left squad list.
It's just a procedural move that means Unga won't count against the 53-man roster until he returns to the team. Regardless, Unga is not expected to make the final roster. Leaving training camp to attend to a personal matter gave him no shot of beating out Kahlil Bell.

Wed Aug 31 201113:30Bears remove Harvey Unga's nameplate
The Bears have removed RB Harvey Unga's nameplate from his locker-room stall.
The Bears will likely place Unga on the reserve/left squad list for the season. He opened camp as a roster long shot, and killed his chances by leaving Bourbonnais to attend to a "personal matter" in the middle of the month. Chicago's three tailbacks this year should be Matt Forte, Marion Barber, and Kahlil Bell. Chester Taylor still seems likely to be released.

Fri Aug 19 201113:39Harvey Unga leaves Bears training camp again
Bears RB Harvey Unga has left training camp to deal with a "personal matter."
It's the second time Unga has exited Bears camp, presumably because of the same issue. A seventh-round supplemental pick last year, Unga was already behind the curve in terms of on-field skills. He won't make the 53-man roster.

Mon Mar 7 201110:22Unga aiming for short-yardage role?
Bears running backs coach Tim Spencer confirmed that Harvey Unga will have to earn his way onto the team on special teams.
Unga, a seventh-round supplemental pick a year ago, essentially had a redshirt season thanks to a preseason hamstring injury. With Chester Taylor likely back and Kahlil Bell getting tendered, there isn't real room for Unga on offense.

Thu Aug 12 201014:46Unga lands on IR with hamstring woes
Bears placed RB Harvey Unga (hamstring) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Unga's hamstring is likely torn. The seventh-round supplemental draft pick was likely headed for the practice squad anyway with the Bears deep at running back right now. He'll return next year to compete for a H-back kind of role in Mike Martz's offense.

Mon Aug 9 201019:29Harvey Unga may miss all of preseason
Bears RB Harvey Unga's hamstring injury may sideline him for all of the preseason.
The hamstring may be torn, an injury that'd cripple the supplemental pick's chances of making the roster. Per Monday's preseason depth chart, Unga was listed as Chicago's fourth-string "H-back." Desmond Clark is the starter.

Thu Aug 5 201010:51Unga's hamstring injury worse than expected
Rookie Harvey Unga's early-camp hamstring injury is worse than the Bears originally believes.
Unga hasn't been able to practice in camp, and he wasn't around to get indoctrinated into Mike Martz's offense during offseason drills. At this point, he's on the outside looking in for a roster spot.
