Washington has placed Paul (ankle) on IR.

Fellow TE Logan Paulsen was also placed on IR on Sunday, with the team, in a corresponding transaction, adding Ernst Brun at the position for depth purposes. With the moves, opportunity clearly knocks in the Washington offense for Jordan Reed, once he returns from a hamstring issue.

Paul (ankle) is out for the season, coach Jay Gruden announced following Thursday's preseason game.

Paul suffered a gruesome ankle injury in Thursday's preseason opener against Cleveland and had to be carted off the field. This is a crushing blow for Washington's depth at tight end with Logan Paulsen also leaving Thursday's game with an injury. Paul was expected to be the Redskins' number one tight end, but his injury could open the door for Jordan Reed (hamstring) to fill a larger role in the offense once he's healthy.

Paul suffered a dislocated left ankle during Thursday's preseason opener against the Browns, NFL.com reports.

While Paul is slated to undergo an MRI to determine the extent of his injury, he's obviously out indefinitely. His absence paves the way for Jordan Reed, who is dealing with a minor hamstring injury, to move up a notch in the team's TE pecking order. Moreover, with third-stringer Logan Paulsen having suffered a toe injury that could require surgery, Washington could be forced to add another tight end in short order.

Paul was carted off the field during Thursday's preseason game against the Browns after suffering an apparent left leg injury, Mike Jones of the Washington Post reports.

As he was helped to the cart, Paul was already sporting a protective boot, per the report, so it looks like he may miss some time. Entering Thursday's preseason opener, Paul was listed as Washington's No. 1 tight end and if his injury ends up being significant, it would presumably open the door for Jordan Reed to see added opportunities in the team's offense.

Paul (shoulder) practiced Tuesday, the Washington Post reports.

Paul only missed part of Monday's practice so the injury appears to be a non-issue.

An MRI on Paul's left shoulder came back clear.

Paul injured his shoulder during Monday's practice but is likely just dealing with a minor issue. He's listed atop the Redskins' initial depth chart, ahead of oft-injured Jordan Reed (hamstring), who is currently considered day-to-day.

Jordan Reed, when healthy, was listed as the starter for the past two seasons. Both players figure to have key roles in the offense, but it's unclear exactly how the targets and snaps will be divided. Reed is probably the more talented receiver, but he's struggled to stay healthy through three seasons, and the Redskins gave Paul a three-year, $10 million contract in March.

With oft-injured starter Jordan Reed limited to 11 games in 2014, Paul turned in a handful of solid performances. The former Cornhusker isn't much of a run blocker and only stands 6-1, but he offers a nice combination of hands and route-running. However, Paul will probably have a limited role, so long as Reed stays healthy.

Paul disappointed in an expanded role, with Jordan Reed (hamstring) inactive, although Robert Griffin completed just 11-of-19 passes for 106 yards. Paul struggled in a tough matchup, failing to make his case to keep a role once Jordan Reed (hamstring) returns, which could happen as soon as next week. If Reed isn't ready, Paul will have a nice bounce-back opportunity against an Arizona defense that has surrendered big games to tight ends in three of its four outings this season.

Paul practiced in full both Friday and Saturday, intimating that the concussion suffered on Sept. 25 was behind him. Because Jordan Reed (hamstring) remains out of commission, Paul will once again act as the main man at tight end in Week 5.

Despite practicing fully both Friday and Saturday, Paul remains officially questionable to suit up against Seattle. Teammate Jordan Reed (hamstring) is also questionable after not practicing at all Saturday.

Eight days after suffering a concussion in the Redskins' loss to the Giants, Paul passed the final stage of testing in accordance with the league's concussion protocol, and was thus cleared to practice in full Friday. He appears headed for an official "probable" designation, while fellow tight end Jordan Reed (hamstring), who remained limited Friday, is uncertain for Week 5. Paul ranks second on the team with 21 catches and leads the team with 313 receiving yards.

With this news, it seems as if Paul is somewhat likely to suit up against the Seahawks on Monday. It's hard to see Kirk Cousins getting much going against the Seattle defense, but Paul might be an easier target against linebackers and safeties than the Washington wideouts might be against the Seattle corners, especially Richard Sherman.

With some individual activity under his belt this week, Paul may not have been cleared by the league's protocol for head injuries after failing to participate in the team portion of practice. Because Jordan Reed (hamstring) was similarly limited Thursday, the TE situation in Washington bears watching as Monday's game against the Seahawks draws near.
