Sat Aug 30 201412:57Green released by Jets
Green has been released by the Jets.
With Daryl Richardson also cut by the team, the Jets' backfield is currently in line to be headed by Chris Johnson, Chris Ivory and Bilal Powel.
Sat May 17 201411:13Jets say Alex Green has not been cut
The Jets confirmed RB Alex Green has not been cut.
Alex Green hinted in a tweet he has been released following the Jets' acquisition of RB Daryl Richardson, but on Saturday the Jets confirmed he was still with the team. With seven running backs currently on the Jets' roster, Green is still unlikely to be a Jet when the 2014 season begins.

Sun Sep 22 201321:06Alex Green goes for 14 yards in Jets win
Jets RB Alex Green rushed five times for 14 yards in Sunday's Week 3 win over the Bills.
The Jets ran a season-high 41 times on Buffalo, and Green saw snaps because Chris Ivory suffered an early-game hamstring injury and did not return. If Ivory sits out at Tennessee in Week 4, Green could get another five or so touches.

Sat Aug 31 201314:55Packers thin out RB corps, dump Alex Green
Packers waived RB Alex Green.
Even with DuJuan Harris (knee) out for the year and fourth-round rookie Johnathan Franklin struggling mightily, Green can't stick. The former third-round pick couldn't return to form after an October 2011 ACL tear, managing a paltry 3.43 YPC on 135 rushes last season. For now, the Packers will roll with only James Starks, third-down protector John Kuhn and Franklin behind potential workhorse Eddie Lacy. It's rumored they could add KR/RB Joe McKnight off the street.

Sat Aug 10 201304:28Alex Green appears available for trade
Packers RB Alex Green "continues to hear his name discussed in trade talks."
Even with Eddie Lacy inactive, Green played with the second and third teams in Friday's preseason opener, managing 16 yards on seven runs. With Lacy and Johnathan Franklin locked into roster spots, the Packers may only end up keeping one of Green and James Starks. They could conceivably part with both.

Thu Aug 8 201313:04Alex Green getting 1st-team reps
Alex Green has handled Packers first-team tailback reps with Eddie Lacy nursing a hamstring tweak.
James Starks has been second in line, with rookie Johnathan Franklin holding down third-string duties. The Packers appear to view Green and Starks as superior early-down backs to Franklin, who looks ticketed for a situational passing-back role. Green and Starks are quite possibly vying for one roster spot.

Tue Jul 30 201322:37Report: Starks, Green have 'been impressive'
According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Alex Green and James Starks have "been more impressive" than rookies Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin early in Packers camp.
We wouldn't read too much into it. Veteran courtesy has had Green and Starks running with the first team, where it's easier to stand out. Lacy and Franklin weren't drafted to sit on the bench behind two backs who have had plenty of chances and done little with them. Provided they don't face-plant in the preseason, Lacy and Franklin are still the best bets to lead Green Bay in touches.

Sat Jul 27 201309:54Alex Green opens camp with first-team offense
Alex Green opened training camp as the Packers' starting running back Friday, but James Starks took the first rep Saturday.
The Packers are going to work all of their backs into the mix with the first-team offense, so we wouldn't read much into this at all. Green -- who ran with the "ones" throughout the spring -- and Starks are likely getting the nod ahead of rookies Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin based solely on experience.

Sat Jul 20 201323:02Personnel man: Packers may shop Alex Green
One NFL personnel boss believes the Packers may shop Alex Green toward the end of training camp.
They won't be able to expect much for the 2011 third-round pick, who through two NFL seasons has suffered a torn ACL and averaged a paltry 3.44 yards per carry. GM Ted Thompson would have to be willing to accept a late-round pick for Green. "They have trade material," said the personnel chief. "Green, not (James) Starks." Starks is more likely to be released outright.

Tue Jul 2 201317:00Franklin, Lacy only locks in Pack's RB corps
Packers.com considers rookies Johnathan Franklin and Eddie Lacy the only Packers running backs locked into roster spots.
Reporter Mike Spofford also lists DuJuan Harris as someone who "excited" the coaching staff last season. It means Alex Green and James Starks are likely competing for one roster spot, if that. Green says he learned a lot during his dicey return from a torn ACL last season. "My aiming point through the holes, the reads, watching the safety rotations. Just slowing the game down a little bit and letting the game come to me and being patient." Green and Starks are both facing an uphill battle.

Sat Jun 15 201318:59Alex Green was Packers starting RB all spring
Alex Green started and finished OTAs as the Packers' No. 1 running back.
May and June depth-chart decisions are often made on experience. While we wouldn't completely give up hope of Green developing into a plus NFL contributor, there's little doubt he's a long shot to open the season as Green Bay's starter. Green remains in the mix of a five-way running back competition that also includes Eddie Lacy, DuJuan Harris, Johnathan Franklin, and James Starks.

Tue May 14 201322:34Alex Green was never 100 percent last year
Alex Green says he was never 100 percent last season after returning from his October 2011 ACL tear.
Green was worn down to the point that he was scratched for Green Bay's Divisional Round loss to the 49ers. "I came back, I got close to it, but once I got close, then I had a couple setbacks," Green said. "I was never really quite where I wanted to be, but I made great strides in the off-season. I'm definitely getting ready for this year." Perhaps as low as fourth on the depth chart, Green could be a candidate for trade or release in training camp.

Thu Jan 10 201309:11Green falls all the way down depth chart
Per the Journal-Sentinel, RB Alex Green "remains mostly out of the mix."
Green is no threat to feature back DuJuan Harris or backup Ryan Grant. He's not hurt, but he's "worn down" thanks in part to last year's ACL reconstruction. The Journal-Sentinel says "the coaches feel he hasn't looked as explosive as earlier in the season."

Mon Jan 7 201311:13Clements: Alex Green still has a role
Packers OC Tom Clements insists RB Alex Green still has a role in the offense.
Green hasn't played a single snap the last two games. If he has a role, it's to be ready in case new starter DuJuan Harris goes down with an injury. With James Starks (knee) close to returning, Green could end up tumbling to fourth on the depth chart.

Mon Dec 31 201216:36Alex Green was fully healthy in Week 17
Alex Green confirmed that he was fully healthy after failing to play a single snap in Week 17.
"Everything was fine," Green said. "I got the same amount of snaps I usually get in practice. Nothing was different. I think they just wanted to go with the hot hand." The Packers are clearly intrigued by DuJuan Harris' skill-set, but this is perhaps the league's purest "hot hand" situation.

Sun Dec 30 201221:02Alex Green disappears in Week 17
Alex Green didn't have a single carry in Week 17 at Minnesota.
Green was active, but we're not sure he even got a snap. The Packers promised to go with the hot hand in the backfield. Ryan Grant was the Week 16 star while DuJuan Harris took over on Sunday. Green appears to be the odd-man out entering the playoffs, though that could change at any time.

Sat Dec 29 201221:46Alex Green (concussion) officially probable
Alex Green (concussion) is officially listed as probable for Week 17 against the Vikings.
Green was a surprise inactive Sunday after he couldn't pass his final concussion test, but was a full participant in practice this week and is fully expected to be available for the regular season finale. He'll join an unimpressive committee of Ryan Grant and DuJuan Harris at running back. The Packers need a win to clinch the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the playoffs.

Wed Dec 26 201218:21Pack will use 'hot hand' backfield in Week 17
Packers coach Mike McCarthy plans to utilize each of Alex Green, Ryan Grant and DuJuan Harris in Sunday's finale, but admits he'll go with the "hot hand" if one develops.
"We'll use the hot player, not playing favorites," McCarthy said. "(We'll) use hot hand, that's who will get the football." The "hot hand" will likely come down to Grant and Green. Grant rushed 20 times for 80 yards in Sunday's win. Grant might have a slightly better shot than Green at leading the Pack's committee this weekend, but neither will be a recommended fantasy option against the Vikings' stout run defense.

Tue Dec 25 201214:08Alex Green will 'definitely' be ready Sunday
Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said Alex Green (concussion) will "definitely be available" for Week 17 versus the Vikings.
Green couldn't pass his final concussion test leading up to Week 16 against the Titans, which came as a surprise to the Packers, but he should be full-go for the regular season finale this week. Green will likely share early-down work with Ryan Grant while DuJuan Harris mixes in as Green Bay tries to secure a first-round bye for the playoffs.
