Tue Sep 22 201509:58Ponder will work out for Cowboys on Tuesday
Ponder will work out for the Cowboys on Tuesday, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Ponder will be joined by Matt Flynn and Josh Johnson. The team hasn't yet decided who Brandon Weeden's backup will be while Tony Romo (broken collarbone) is out, but if none of the veterans impress them, Kellen Moore could also be activated from the practice squad.
Sat Sep 5 201522:30The Raiders released Ponder on Saturday
The Raiders released Ponder on Saturday, Bill Williamson of ESPN.com reports.
Ponder was brought in to compete with Matt McGloin for the top backup quarterback role in Oakland, but the latter thoroughly outperformed the competition (also, rookie Cody Fajardo). It remains to be seen if Ponder has run out of professional opportunities, but he was 22-for-35 passing for 245 yards to go with one touchdown and one interception during exhibition season.
Fri Sep 4 201521:55Ponder expected to be released by Raiders
Ponder is expected to be released by the Raiders, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.
The Raiders gave Ponder a $1.5 million signing bonus back in March, but have reportedly decided to go with Matt McGloin as the backup to starter Derek Carr once again in 2015. Ponder failed to stake his claim to the role in the preseason, taking four sacks and going 9-for-16 for 117 yards and no touchdowns in the final two games.
Fri Mar 13 201516:40Ponder expected to sign one-year contract with Raiders
Ponder is expected to sign a one-year contract with the Raiders, ESPN reports.
Ponder, the tenth overall pick in 2011, fell out of favor rather quickly with the Vikings, who opted to move on with Teddy Bridgewater as their starter. Now in Oakland, Ponder figures to back-up another promising rising second-year player, Derek Carr. That dynamic obviously restricts Ponder's fantasy value considerably, but a second-string role perhaps best suits Ponder's skill set.

Ponder completed 22-of-44 passes for 222 yards, adding three carries for 15 yards and a touchdown, in Thursday's 42-10 loss to the Packers. He threw two interceptions and was sacked six times.
The Vikings scored all 10 points in the fourth quarter, with the offense showing no ability to move the ball until the game was out of hand, despite facing a beatable Green Bay defense. Ponder was bad for even a backup, and Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) is tentatively expected to return for Week 6 against the Lions, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports. In the unexpected event that Ponder gets another start, he'll be one of the worst quarterback options for Week 6.
Thu Oct 2 201417:51Christian Ponder: Starting Thursday
Ponder will start in place of Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) on Thursday in Green Bay, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Despite fitting in a limited showing at Wednesday's practice, the Vikings are opting for the prudent approach by keeping their prized quarterback in the stable. In his stead, Ponder will be under center for the seventh time against the Packers. With a 1-4-1 record against the division rival, he's completed 92-of-170 passes (54.1 percent) for 1,140 yards with eight touchdowns (one rushing) and five interceptions.

Ponder is inactive for Sunday's game at St. Louis, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
No surprise here as Ponder is the No. 3 quarterback and may not be active all season unless Teddy Bridgewater or Matt Cassel are hurt.
Sat Aug 30 201420:03Ponder made final roster
Ponder made the final roster, the Vikings' official website reports.
With Matt Cassel the Week 1 starter, and Teddy Bridgewater the clear No. 2, Ponder never really had a chance to be anything more than the third quarterback. He at least did enough to keep a spot on the roster, and could be the subject of trade rumors.

Ponder was 12-of-15 for 121 yards and led the Vikings on three scoring drives in Thursday's preseason win over Tennessee.
It was a nice outing for Ponder late in the game against the third-string defense. He enters the season as a distant third on the depth chart at quarterback.
Sun Aug 24 201400:48Ponder did not play in Saturday's preseason win over Kansas City
Ponder did not play in Saturday's preseason win over Kansas City.
He hasn't played the last two preseason games as the Vikings wanted to give as many snaps as possible to Matt Cassel and Teddy Bridgewater. Ponder is clearly the No. 3 quarterback and there's debate whether the team will keep him on the roster or trade or cut him at the end of training camp.

Ponder was 3-of-7 for 39 yards in Friday's preseason win over Oakland.
Ponder is clearly the No. 3 quarterback as he's had almost no time with the first-team offense in training camp and didn't play until the third quarter of the first preseason game.

With Matt Cassel and Teddy Bridgewater getting the majority of the team's QB reps in practice, 1500espn.com suggests that Ponder has largely been relegated to the role of a spectator.
While we won't completely write Ponder off just yet, it would probably take a break (presumably in the form of an injury to one of his fellow signal-callers) in order for his candidacy for the top job to regain any sort of momentum.
Thu Jul 31 201408:45Christian Ponder barely getting reps
Christian Ponder has been relegated to a spectator role at Vikings camp.
The Vikes are trying to get Teddy Bridgewater and Matt Cassel all the snaps they can, so Ponder is merely getting a third-team rep every "once in a while." At this point, the only thing keeping the 2011 No. 12 overall pick on the roster is a $1.76 million guaranteed salary.

Mon Jun 16 201413:15Christian Ponder works as No. 3 QB
Christian Ponder is working as the Vikings' No. 3 quarterback at OTAs.
Predictably, he's getting fewer reps with the ones than Matt Cassel and Teddy Bridgewater. "Obviously there's an agenda to try to get Teddy ready," Ponder conceded. "And Cassel's the starter right now." Per the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Vikings "hope" to trade Ponder to a QB-needy team in training camp. They won't release him outright due to a $1.8 million salary guaranteed.

Sun May 25 201411:21Vikings to give 3 QBs 1st-team reps
The Vikings plan to give all three of their quarterbacks first-team offseason reps.
That's Christian Ponder, Matt Cassel, and rookie Teddy Bridgewater. Per NFL Network's Albert Breer, the Vikings are "pushing competition" and hope to go to camp with a pecking order in place. By the time August rolls around, we suspect Cassel and Bridgewater will be toward the top. By Week 1, it's tentatively expected that Bridgewater will be No. 1, Cassel No. 2, and Ponder No. 3.

Tue May 6 201419:51Vikes GM: No plans to trade Christian Ponder
Speaking Tuesday, Vikings GM Rick Spielman reiterated that he has no plans to trade Christian Ponder.
That's because Spielman has no illusions about fetching anything of value in return. A firm No. 2 on the depth chart behind Matt Cassel, Ponder could be No. 3 by this time next week.

Sat May 3 201408:57Vikings decline Ponder's fifth-year option
Vikings declined Christian Ponder's fifth-year option.
It's an obvious move as the Vikes aren't going to pay $9.6 million for a guy they've essentially given up on. The bigger question is if Ponder will even break camp with the team. He's firmly behind Matt Cassel right now and could very well fall to third on the depth chart when the Vikings draft a quarterback next week. Cutting Ponder would result in $3.2 million in dead money.

Thu May 1 201408:20Christian Ponder won't get option picked up
The Vikings are not going to pick up Christian Ponder's fifth-year option.
It's an obvious move as the Vikes aren't going to pay $9.6 million for guy they've essentially given up on. The bigger question is if Ponder will even break camp with the team. He's firmly behind Matt Cassel right now and could very well fall to third on the depth chart when the Vikings draft a quarterback next week. The Vikings would have to absorb $3.2 million in dead money to cut Ponder outright.

Fri Feb 14 201414:55Vikings GM: QB Ponder 'will be here' in 2014
Vikings GM Rick Spielman promised Friday that Christian Ponder "will be here" on the 2014 roster.
Spielman made it clear, however, that he is looking to add a young quarterback and will probably bolster the roster with two more signal callers via offseason moves. Matt Cassel and Josh Freeman are free agents. The Vikings may have interest in retaining Cassel, but he'll almost certainly go to the highest bidder. Spielman is very likely to use an early-round pick at quarterback.

Thu Feb 6 201418:10Norv: We're looking for a young quarterback
New Vikings OC Norv Turner admitted Thursday that the team is looking to add a young quarterback.
The Vikings already have a young quarterback on the roster in Christian Ponder, so Norval is tacitly admitting the 2011 first-rounder is not the answer. "I think everyone is in agreement that we're trying to add a young quarterback to the organization," Turner said matter of factly. Ponder is currently the only signal caller the Vikings have under contract for 2014, but the Vikes are going to search high and low for an alternative. If they use the No. 8 overall pick on a quarterback, the rookie would get every chance to be the Week 1 starter.
