Both Dimke and Shayne Graham were waived by the Saints on Saturday, the team's official site reports.
The Saints are thus in the market for a new kicker, though following Saturday's round of roster trimming, there are plenty of options for the team to consider on that front.

Dimke handled all the kickoff duties and contributed two field goals, a 23- and 49-yarder, in Thursday's preseason finale against the Ravens. Dimke's competition for the Saints' starting kicker position, Shayne Graham, did not attempt a kick in the game.
The writing appears to be on the wall that it will be the unproven Dimke, not the veteran Graham, who will handle kicking duties for the Saints to start the year. As such, Dimke should be owned in nearly all leagues, as he should be provided plenty of opportunities to put points on the board backed by the Saints' explosive offense.

In Larry Holder's most-recent 53-man roster projection, Dimke is projected to prevail in the kicking competition with Shayne Graham. Dimke successfully converted a 45-yard attempt in Saturday's preseason game against the Colts, though Graham was also perfect on two extra points and a 24-yard and 39 yard field goal.
Though just one man's prediction, Holder's previous projections all had Graham starting the season as the Saints' kicker, but he anticipates Dimke handling kicking duties for the team after watching Graham miss another kick in practice while Dimke drained his attempts. Rolling with the unproven but strong-legged Dimke would be a risk for the Saints given their championship aspirations, but, according to Holder, there's a reason why Graham has kicked all over the league the past few years. If Dimke does prevail in the competition, he should see plenty of opportunities backed by the Saints' high-powered attack.

Dimke successfully converted two extra point attempts from the trial, 33-yard distance in Friday's preseason game against the Titans. Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times-Picayune still projects, however, that Shayne Graham will prevail over Dimke in their competition for the Saints' kicking duties this season.
While Dimke did not attempt a field goal, Graham, who missed one of the longer extra point tries last week, was perfect on his lone extra point attempt and a 34-yard field goal in Friday's exhibition. Graham likely holds the edge primarily due to his superior experience - including a game-winning kick for New Orleans in last year's playoffs - but neither Dimke nor Graham can afford any slip ups as the competition continues to wage into next week.

With the NFL experimenting with a 33-yard extra point attempt, Dimke connected on an extra point attempt in the Saints preseason opener in St. Louis on Friday night. Dimke also converted a 37-yard field goal in the second half as well.
Dimke is in competition for the Saints kicker position with veteran Shayne Graham. Graham also successfully converted a 37-yard field goal and one longer extra point, but unlike DImke, he missed one long extra point as well, clanging his attempt off the left upright. Dimke and Graham have both had solid camps, and the preseason games could serve as a tiebreaker. Coach Sean Payton has suggested that Graham will be tough to beat because of his consistency and experience. While Graham still likely holds the lead in the competition, a few more misses by Graham in the coming exhibition games could see a changing of the guard. Keep an eye on the battle, as the winner would have plenty of value in the Saints' explosive offense.
Sat Aug 2 201414:12Derek Dimke: Out-Kicking Shayne Graham In Camp
Dimke appears to hold an early lead over veteran Shayne Graham in the Saints' kicking competition, the The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Previous reports indicated that the Saints hope Graham will separate himself, as the team values the 36-year-old placekicker's experience. Of course, experience didn't stop Graham from missing both of his field-goal attempts in last year's playoff loss to the Seahawks, and it didn't prevent him from wearing out his welcome in Cincinnati with an 0-for-2 showing in a Jan. 2010 playoff loss to the Jets. Graham has kicked in a regular-season game for six different teams since that 2010 playoff loss, as he's good enough to stay in the league but not a desirable starter. In any case, so long as Drew Brees is healthy, the winner of this kicking battle will be a viable fantasy option in nearly any format.
Thu Jan 2 201417:36Saints sign two to reserve/future deals
Saints signed K Derek Dimke and CB Derrius Brooks to reserve/future contracts.
With the Saints having moved on from K Garrett Hartley, Dimke should get a chance to win the team's kicking competition next summer. The second-year undrafted free agent is unlikely to be the favorite, however. Veteran Shayne Graham is 2-of-2 on field-goal attempts since replacing Hartley.
