Banyard had four carries for two yards and lost a fumble in Saturday's preseason win over Tampa Bay.
He was used in the second quarter, so he appears to be ahead of DuJuan Harris in the battle for the fourth running back role at this point. Harris didn't appear until late in the game. However, it's not clear how much the lost fumble and poor outing will hurt Banyard's stock.

Banyard had seven carries for 22 yards, including a one-yard touchdown, in Sunday's preseason win over Pittsburgh.
Banyard entered the game in the third quarter, so it's hard to read too much into his performance since he was against the third- or fourth-string defense, but he still had a solid game. Banyard is competing with DuJuan Harris for the fourth spot on the running back depth chart.

Banyard will likely be the No. 3 running back Sunday, with Matt Asiata listed as the starter, according to ESPN.com, and Ben Tate the likely No. 2.
Banyard's upside is already fairly limited, and facing a Jets defense allowing the third-fewest rushing yards per game doesn't do him any favors.

With Jerick McKinnon out for a second consecutive game this week due to a back injury, head coach Mike Zimmer said he plans to use the same approach at running back as last week. Banyard had just two carries last week, but, sat in the second half after botching a protection, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
It looks like Banyard will be third on the depth chart behind Matt Asiata and Ben Tate. It doesn't look like he's likely to have a significant role.

With Jerick McKinnon (back) inactive Sunday against the Panthers, Banyard is expected to earn looks behind starter Matt Asiata (concussion), Ben Goessling of ESPN.com reports.
Last Sunday, Banyard was used when the tables were turned between McKinnon and Asiata, whose head injury resulted in a DNP. While the output was meager -- five carries for 26 yards and three receptions for 19 yards -- Banyard could aid owners in deeper formats. Keep in mind, though, that Ben Tate is present and could be handed his first touches as a member of the Vikings.

The Vikings will likely use a committee between Banyard, Ben Tate and Matt Asiate with McKinnon out. It's possible Banyard could even start after he was the backup running back last week, but it's not clear how the Vikings will divide the playing time.

Banyard took over the role as Jerick McKinnon's backup with Matt Asiata out with a concussion. Ben Tate was surprisingly active but did not play. It's not clear if Banyard will keep the role next week as Asiata could return from his injury and Tate may move to the No. 2 spot on the depth chart as he wasn't up to speed on the offense after being claimed off waivers only a few days before Sunday's game.

Banyard has been released by the Vikings, The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Banyard could draw some interest around the league after running for 111 yards on 18 carries in Thursday's preseason finale. With Adrian Peterson, Matt Asiata and Jerick McKinnon all healthy, the Vikings had little reason to keep a fourth running back. If Banyard clears waivers, the Vikings will likely assign him to the practice squad.

Banyard had a strong preseason with 212 yards rushing and 5.9 yards per attempt, but it may not be enough to win a final roster spot.
