This explains the interest the Seahawks have in signing Fred Jackson. Coach Pete Carroll said Tuesday the sprain is "significant." Turbin could begin the year on the PUP list, though that has not been determined. This is also bad news for Christine Michael, who apparently is not trusted with backup work if Turbin is out.

Turbin had five carries for 19 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Chargers.

Christine Michael gained 37 yards on seven carries, with UDFA Thomas Rawls chipping in 20 yards on six totes. Despite his underwhelming preseason, Turbin is the favorite to serve as Marshawn Lynch's top backup.

Turbin ran for four yards on six carries in Friday's game against the Chiefs.

Turbin has done little to solidify his role as Marshawn Lynch's backup, rushing 11 times for 17 yards in two preseason games. He is battling with Christine Michael, who also struggled, rushing for 27 yards on 10 carries.

Turbin, who underwent double hip surgery in the offseason, is "very quick, explosive, and so he's really made a good first impression," coach Pete Carroll told the Seattle Times on Wednesday.

Turbin will make up Marshawn Lynch again this year. While he is a regular in the two-minute drill, he doesn't get many touches per game. He doesn't face much challenge from Christine Michael or Thomas Rawls for the backup job.

Turbin underwent offseason hip surgery, and his timeline for a return to the field is uncertain, FOX Sports reports.

If Turbin's recovery stretches into the regular season, it could open up some extra carries for Christine Michael. If both running backs are healthy, they'll likely split the work behind entrenched starter Marshawn Lynch, though it's possible one or the other emerges as the clear top backup. Turbin is entering the final season of his rookie contract, after rushing for 310 yards on 74 carries (4.2 YPC) in 2014.

Turbin had 11 carries for 53 yards and caught his lone target for 13 yards in Sunday's win over the Rams.

Turbin actually came close to matching Marshawn Lynch's production Sunday, although Lynch was the one that scored. The Seahawks clinched the No. 1 seed in the NFC with the win, but Turbin is only an option for those in the deepest of postseason fantasy leagues.
