Mon Mar 19 201218:16Chiefs don't tender Tyler Palko
The Chiefs declined to tender exclusive rights free agent QB Tyler Palko, sending him to unrestricted free agency.
They'll move forward with Brady Quinn behind Matt Cassel. Palko might have been the least effective NFL quarterback to take the field in 2011. The 28-year-old posted a 2:7 TD-to-INT ratio with an eighth turnover on a lost fumble, and a YPA under 6.0. Palko will struggle to find an NFL job this offseason unless new Steelers OC Todd Haley gives him a look as a third-stringer.

Sun Jan 1 201214:48Palko again leads Chiefs inactives
Chiefs declared QB Tyler Palko, WR Jerheme Urban, TE Jake O'Connell, OT David Mims, NT Jerrell Powe, DE Brandon Bair and S Jon McGraw inactive for Week 17 against the Broncos.
Fifth-round rookie Ricky Stanzi will back-up Kyle Orton for the third straight week. With Jackie Battle sent to injured reserve on Saturday, Thomas Jones will lead the Chiefs' rotation at running back, with Dexter McCluster likely receiving 10-12 touches in a change-of-pace role. FB Le'Ron McClain will likely be in the mix for a few carries.

Sat Dec 24 201111:41Tyler Palko inactive once again for KC
Chiefs declared QB Tyler Palko inactive for Sunday's Week 16 game against the Raiders.
The Chiefs will roll with Kyle Orton and Ricky Stanzi at quarterback once again. There are no surprises on their inactive list: WR Jerheme Urban, TE Jake O'Connell, T David Mims, NT Jerrell Powe, DE Brandon Bair and S Jon McGraw.

Sun Dec 18 201111:59Chiefs declare Week 15 inactives
Chiefs declared QB Tyler Palko, S Jon McGraw, OL David Mims, WR Jerheme Urban, TE Jake O'Connell, DE Brandon Bair, and DT Jerrell Powe inactive for Week 15 against the Packers.
Palko goes from starter to third-stringer, with Kyle Orton and Ricky Stanzi both leap-frogging him per the wishes of interim head coach Romeo Crennel.

Tue Dec 13 201112:23Chiefs haven't decided on starting QB
Interim coach Romeo Crennel said Tuesday he has not decided on a starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Packers.
It looks like a perfect time to sit Tyler Palko down. In four starts this season, he's averaging 187.3 passing yards per game while throwing two touchdowns against seven interceptions. The Chiefs have gone 1-3 and not topped 10 points in a game during that span. Fifth-round rookie Ricky Stanzi may not be ready, but it's hard to envision him performing worse than Palko.

Mon Dec 12 201111:18Haley considered benching Palko on Sunday
Chiefs coach Todd Haley considered benching Tyler Palko in Sunday's blowout loss to the Jets.
However, Haley decided not to play fifth-round rookie Ricky Stanzi with the Chiefs facing a huge deficit in front of a hostile road crowd. Palko's play certainly warranted a benching, as he completed just three passes for 11 yards as the Chiefs fell behind 28-3 going into halftime. In four starts, Palko has now produced two touchdowns compared to eight turnovers. The Chiefs desperately need Kyle Orton (finger) to get healthy if they are to finish the year on a respectable note.

Sun Dec 4 201116:24Palko leads Chiefs to ugly victory
Tyler Palko completed 17-of-30 passes for 157 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 10-3 win over the Bears.
After getting off to a miserable start, Palko's day appeared to be over early in the second quarter when he was yanked for Kyle Orton. Orton suffered a finger injury on his first play, however, and Palko returned to game manage the Chiefs to a win in one of the ugliest games of 2011. Palko again did nothing to suggest he's a viable NFL quarterback, but did manage to have a turnover-free day, and showed signs of life when the Chiefs went uptempo. He's not an option in two-QB leagues, but has at least proven he can keep the Chiefs in games.

Sun Dec 4 201111:56Palko set to make third consecutive start
Tyler Palko remains in line to start Sunday's game against the Bears.
The Chiefs never officially announced who will begin the day under center, so it appears KCChiefs.com's Friday report that Palko will make his third straight start will hold up. It's impossible to believe Kyle Orton is not a better option at this point despite his limited practice reps with his new club, but coach Todd Haley remains bizarrely committed to the quarterback who's given him seven turnovers and 12 points the past two weeks. Orton is expected to see some snaps in a relief role, but likely not enough to make an impact in two-QB fantasy leagues.

Fri Dec 2 201116:44Tyler Palko to start over Kyle Orton Sunday
According to KCChiefs.com, Tyler Palko will be the Chiefs' starting quarterback in Week 13 against the Bears.
The Bears have been steamrolling opposing passing games lately, so you can make a good argument that their defense would be the No. 1 play in fantasy football this week. Coach Todd Haley did leave the door open Friday for Kyle Orton to perhaps replace Palko in-game. "We've had to prepare Orton to get ready to play and he may have to, but he may not," Haley said. "We're really focused on how we want to start this game and we know what we need to do."

Wed Nov 30 201117:08Todd Haley: Palko remains Chiefs starting QB
Coach Todd Haley reiterated Wednesday that Tyler Palko remains the Chiefs' starting quarterback heading into Week 13.
"Tyler's the starter," said Haley. "We're getting Kyle (Orton) ready to play. He might have to play." Per beat writer Adam Teicher, Palko was the first QB in the rotation during Wednesday's practice, and received 60 percent of the reps compared to Orton's 40 percent. The Chiefs may keep the Bears guessing all week. Our guess as of Wednesday is still that Orton will be the starter, but Haley has a long history of head-scratching depth chart decisions.

Wed Nov 30 201111:52Tyler Palko will share reps Wednesday
Tyler Palko will take 60 percent of the first-team reps at Chiefs practice Wednesday.
Kyle Orton will get 40 percent of the reps. Although coach Todd Haley hasn't named a quarterback for Sunday's game against the Bears yet, he'd be crazy not to roll with Orton. Palko has led his team to 12 points while turning the ball over seven times in the last two games.

Sun Nov 27 201123:42Palko throws 3 picks in likely final start
Tyler Palko completed 18-of-28 passes for 167 yards and three interceptions in Sunday's loss to the Steelers.
He also lost a fumble. Palko was mesmerizingly bad in the first half, throwing for only 74 yards and two mind-numbing picks. He was able to settle down in the second, and improbably had Kansas City in position to win with less than 30 seconds remaining. That's when he threw into quintuple coverage, however, getting intercepted for the third time as Dwayne Bowe inexplicably failed to make a play on the ball. In the end, Palko produced nine points and seven turnovers in his two starts. Kyle Orton will be under center in Week 13.

Thu Nov 24 201114:43Tyler Palko will start Sunday
The Chiefs confirmed that Tyler Palko will start Sunday's game against the Steelers.
Kyle Orton is still making his way to Kansas City and the team is hopeful to have him available for mere depth Sunday. The noodle-armed Palko looked erratic against the Patriots' inept pass defense last Monday night, throwing three picks and no touchdowns. He'll fare significantly worse against the Steelers this week. Expect Orton to start in Week 13.

Wed Nov 23 201120:25Tyler Palko expected to make one more start
The Kansas City Star confirms that Tyler Palko is "likely" to be the Chiefs' starting quarterback in Week 12, despite Wednesday's acquisition of Kyle Orton.
It's welcomed news for owners of the Steelers' fantasy defense. Orton will report to the Chiefs and even perhaps practice on Thursday, but has just two days to learn the offense. We would expect Orton to be more fully incorporated by the Chiefs' Week 13 game against the Bears. Todd Haley's offense is not all that dissimilar from the one Josh McDaniels ran in Denver.

Tue Nov 22 201100:36Palko's debut goes pretty much as drawn up
Tyler Palko made his NFL debut in the Chiefs' 34-3 loss to the Patriots on Monday Night Football, completing 25-of-38 passes for 236 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions.
This is just Palko's first game, but it could very easily end up being a high point of his year. The Patriots boast a laughably decimated defensive backfield, and the remaining Chiefs schedule gets much, much tougher. Palko did make a few plays, but he also missed receivers, showed zero velocity on his throws, and displayed very bad decision making. This will be an offense to stream defenses against.

Mon Nov 14 201115:58Tyler Palko rises to Chiefs' starting QB job
Tyler Palko will be the Chiefs' starting quarterback moving forward with Matt Cassel (hand surgery) out indefinitely.
Palko has tried just 13 career regular season passes, so we had to look up his exhibition game stats for background. In five NFL preseasons, Palko has completed 133-of-243 passes (54.7%) for 1,423 yards (5.86 YPA), five touchdowns, and 12 interceptions while fumbling 10 times and losing four. Undrafted out of Pitt in 2007 due to major talent limitations, Palko's rise to the starting job will hurt the causes of Steve Breaston, Jonathan Baldwin, and Dwayne Bowe. He was a weak-armed scrambling college quarterback, and figures to be on a short leash ahead of fifth-round rookie Ricky Stanzi.

Sun Nov 13 201121:24Palko could start next week against Patriots
Tyler Palko entered the game in relief of injured Matt Cassel (shoulder, hand) late in the fourth quarter of Week 10, completing 4-of-5 passes for 47 yards while moving the Chiefs into position for a late field goal.
The field goal allowed them to try an onside kick and in theory a chance to chuck up a Hail Mary with 0:07 to go. The onside kick failed, but Palko got some much-needed in-game experience if he'll be filling in next week when the Chiefs go to Foxboro. The Patriots have the league's worst pass defense, though it would be optimistic to consider Palko even a low-end QB2.

Mon Aug 22 201111:48Palko moving ahead of Stanzi
Tyler Palko has been the Chiefs' best quarterback through two preseason games.
Palko was expected to be the No. 3 quarterback, but he is making a strong case to be the primary backup to Matt Cassel. In limited playing time through two preseason games, Palko is 12-of-21 for 129 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions.

Wed Dec 8 201012:16Palko promoted from practice squad
Chiefs signed QB Tyler Palko from their practice squad.
It's the first time all year that the Chiefs will be carrying three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster. Backup Brodie Croyle has been active for all 12 games but has yet to see a snap this season.
Sun Sep 5 201015:05Chiefs announce practice squad
Chiefs signed QB Tyler Palko, DLs Garrett Brown and Dion Gales, OLB Bobby Greenwood, OL Darryl Harris, S Ricky Price, WR Verran Tucker, and LB Pierre Walters to their practice squad.
It appears RB Javarris Williams was passed up for the squad, which isn't a good sign for his career, especially after losing out on a roster spot to Jackie Battle. Palko will be the "third QB" behind Matt Cassel and Brodie Croyle.
