Packers waived TE Spencer Havner.
Havner appeared in six games between the Lions and Packers last season. He was placed on injured reserve in November with a hamstring injury. In the league since 2006, Havner's made 26 career appearances, catching seven passes for 112 yards. Also waived by the Packers on Sunday were WR Brett Swain and OT Theo Sherman.

Packers extended an exclusive rights tender to TE Spencer Havner.
The tender was offered before Thursday's deadline but is just now being reported. Havner failed to catch a pass before landing on injured reserve last November. The special teamer won't be guaranteed a roster spot next season.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel does not expect TE Spencer Havner to be back with the Packers.
Havner landed on injured reserve after just two games with the Packers. His contract is up and the Pack can find cheap special teams help elsewhere.

In his first game since being re-signed in early November, Havner injured his hamstring while playing special teams. It's his second hamstring injury of the season. He's far from a sure bet to resurface with the Packers in 2011.

Packers TE Spencer Havner re-injured his pulled hamstring while playing on special teams in Sunday's loss to the Falcons.
Havner was active for the first time since being re-signed by the Packers on November 12. He was primarily being used on special teams before pulling up lame.

Havner was waived/injured by Detroit earlier this season after sustaining a torn hamstring in Week 5. He'll focus on special teams for Green Bay.

The Lions announced their acquisition of Spencer Havner on Monday, and listed him as a linebacker.
Will Heller is safe as the third tight end behind Brandon Pettigrew and Tony Scheffler. Havner's main role will be on special teams, but he'll also likely back up DeAndre Levy at middle linebacker with Rocky Boiman gone.

Green Bay's tight end depth chart looks like this: Jermichael Finley, Donald Lee, Andrew Quarless, Tom Crabtree. Havner can cover kicks, and doesn't have bad hands. He's certainly worth a flier for a tight end-needy team.

The Packers will release TE Spencer Havner if they can't find a trade partner.
Havner appeared on the watch list of several fantasy owners last season after racking up four touchdowns in a four-week span at mid-season. Tom Crabtree, undrafted out of Miami (OH) in 2009, appears to have beaten him out for a roster spot. Donald Lee's spot is secure.

Spencer Havner will play some linebacker in the Packers' preseason opener on Saturday.
Havner practiced at both tight end and linebacker last season, but after catching five touchdowns, he thought his defending days were behind him. This is likely an emergency situation with the Packers banged up at linebacker.

Tue Apr 6 201016:26DA wants more information in Havner case
The Nevada County (Calif.) district attorney's office found insufficient evidence to charge Packers TE Spencer Havner with drunken driving after crashing his motorcycle last month.
The D.A.'s office is sending the case back to California Highway Patrol for further investigation. Havner isn't off the hook quite yet, though the case against him is obviously weak.
