Coffman caught 4-of-6 targets for 42 yards Sunday against the Browns.

The tight end position was targeted frequently by rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota, allowing Coffman and Anthony Fasano to put their receiving chops on display. Coffman is a talented pass-catcher, but he won't see the field much when Delanie Walker (hand) returns due to his lack of blocking skills.

Coffman could receive an expanded offensive role in Week 2 if Delanie Walker (hand) can't go against the Browns on Sunday, the Titans' official site reports. When asked about Coffman's role in Week 2, head coach Ken Whisenhunt said: "I think that some of things that Delanie does well, (Coffman) can fill that role if we need him to, which is good."

Coffman was inactive in Week 1, but he led the Titans with 12 catches and 189 receiving yards during the preseason. If Walker's hand injury does indeed keep him out, Coffman's pass-catching prowess could make him a strong under-the-radar fantasy play.

Coffman re-signed with the Titans on Monday.

Just two days after cutting Coffman, the Titans were able to open up a roster spot for him by making David Cobb their IR/designated to return player. He'll serve as a depth tight end for Tennessee and isn't likely to see many meaningful snaps on offense.

Coffman is having a huge preseason, with six catches (eight targets) for 112 yards and two touchdowns through two games. No matter, he's likely just competing for the No. 3 tight end job, and Craig Stevens is probably still a better bet to earn that role.

Coffman took advantage of an increase in playing time due to the absence of Delanie Walker. He worked predominantly with the second-team offense in this one, and it's unlikely he can overtake Walker or Anthony Fasano on the depth chart. That said, Coffman has shown enough receiving chops to be useful should injury befall one of the team's top two tight ends.

The Titans had an opening at the tight end position after waiving Taylor Thompson, and they chose to fill it with a familiar face. The 28-year-old Coffman recorded 64 yards and one touchdown for the Titans in 2014, but his fantasy value is almost nonexistent with veterans Delanie Walker and Anthony Fasano on the roster.

Firmly entrenched behind starting tight end Delanie Walker, who led the Titans in receiving yards, Coffman was unable to contribute much of anything fantasy-wise in the 2014 season. The former Missouri star will now enter free agency.

Coffman caught 3-of-4 targets for 32 yards and a touchdown in Monday's 27-24 loss to the Steelers.

Filling in for Delanie Walker (concussion), Coffman notably caught a four-yard touchdown pass in tight coverage, extending the Titans' lead to 24-13 in the third quarter. Even if Walker misses another game, Monday's showing is about the best you can expect from Coffman in the lousy Tennessee passing game.

Coffman will start at tight end in place of Delanie Walker in Monday's game against the Steelers, Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports.

Richard Gordon and Brett Brackett round out the Titans' Monday night tight end corps, with Coffman only worth a fantasy dart as a last-minute replacement for Walker.

Coffman agreed to a contract with the Titans on Tuesday.

Coffman will replace T.J. Graham on the Titans' roster. He provides some depth at the tight end position while Delanie Walker deals with a shoulder injury.

Coffman has signed with the Titans, the Tennessean reports.

Coffman, who did not record a catch in 11 games with the Falcons last season, bolsters the Titans' depth at tight end, with Dorin Dickerson having landed on injured reserve.

The Falcons have informed free agent TE Chase Coffman that they won't be offering him a contract.

The Falcons currently have a gaping hole at tight end thanks to Tony Gonzalez's retirement. So the fact that they're done with Coffman is a bad sign for his flickering career. The 2010 third-round pick of the Bengals has four catches in 21 career NFL games.

Coach Mike Smith said TE Chase Coffman has had "a really good offseason."

"He's had a lot of opportunities to get some snaps in," Smith added. "He's made the most of it." Coffman has been seeing a ton of reps with Tony Gonzalez relaxing in OTAs and minicamp. The former third-round pick of the Bengals will challenge for a backup job, but he won't be a factor when the games count.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution says the Falcons "could elect to go with" Chase Coffman as a pass-catching tight end in 2013.

Future Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez is fully expected to retire this offseason, and it could be a chance for Coffman, a 2009 third-round pick by the Bengals, to salvage his career. "Chase is a very good receiving tight end. If Chase can... stay healthy, I think Chase has a very nice chance of being a quality football player in this league," said GM Thomas Dimitroff. Coffman, in our eyes, would seem to be a last resort if the position can't be addressed elsewhere in the offseason.

It's the second time the former third-round pick has been waived in the past three weeks, suggesting he's just about at the end of the line. The 6-foot-6, 250-pound tight end boasts NFL size to go along with excellent hands, but has never been able to cut it in the strength and athleticism department.

It's another bad sign for Coffman's career. The Bengals, who used a third-round pick on him in 2009, didn't even sign him to a futures deal after the season. Now the Bucs are moving on just one week into training camp. It doesn't look like Coffman will ever get over his nagging foot woes.

Coffman saw five targets in place of rookie starter Jermaine Gresham. He looked bulkier and less explosive than he did when entered the NFL a year and a half ago. The three receptions were the first of the injury-prone tight end's career. He should be back as a second- or third-stringer in 2011.
