ESPN's Adam Schefter suggests a signing could be in the works. Rayner, who converted just 10-of-15 (67 percent) field goals in seven games with the Bills last year, would then challenge incumbent Shaun Suisham in training camp.

Rayner filled in for Rian Lindell (injured reserve, shoulder) over the last seven games. He made just 10-of-15 field goals, including two misses from 39 yards out or closer. Brandon Coutu will be the Bills' kicker in Week 17.

You can officially rule out Sebastian Janikowski (hamstring) for Week 7. The Raiders are on bye in Week 8, so it's possible Rayner's stint with the team will last all of one week. You should be able to find a better Janikowski fill-in on the waiver wire.

The Lions have talked about bringing K Dave Rayner back as insurance for Jason Hanson in 2011.
Hanson, turning 41 in June, battled injuries to both knees as well as his Achilles in 2010. The Lions seem likely to stick with him for another year, but he's now a major injury risk. Rayner drilled 13-of-16 field goals, including seven straight to end the season.

Rayner lost out to Mike Nugent's stronger leg. The itinerant kicker will resurface elsewhere during the season, but he's not a long-term solution at the position with a career field-goal percentage of just 71.2.
