Fri Jul 29 201109:05Koenen's deal worth $19.5 million
New Bucs P Michael Koenen's six-year deal is worth $19.5 million, including $6.5 million guaranteed.
We don't normally do separate posts for contracts, but this is like spending a ninth-round fantasy pick on your kicker. It just doesn't make a lot of sense, especially when Koenen finished 28th in the league in net punting average last season.

Fri Jul 29 201100:59Bucs agree to six-year deal with Koenen
Bucs agreed to terms with P Michael Koenen on a six-year contract.
Atlanta franchise tagged Koenen in each of the last two years, but they weren't going to pay him another $3 million for 2011. Especially not after Koenen finished 28th in the league in net punting average. Koenen has plenty of talent, but the Bucs may have to make some tweaks to ensure this commitment is worthwhile.

Thu Apr 22 201015:10Falcons re-sign P Koenen
Falcons re-signed restricted free agent P Michael Koenen to a one-year, $2.731 million contract.
The salary constitutes 110% of his 2009 base pay, which was required after Atlanta franchise tagged him two winters ago. Koenen, 28 in July, is one of the strongest-legged punters in the game, in addition to being a super kickoff specialist. He'll be a candidate for a long-term deal this summer.
