Thu May 27 2010 | 10:17 | Report: Dolphins DE Phillip Merling arrested |
Confirming a previous item, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Omar Kelly reports that Dolphins DE Phillip Merling was arrested Wednesday night following a domestic dispute with his pregnant girlfriend. |
Details aren't yet available, but this situation is a lot more serious than it originally sounded. League discipline is probably likely if it's determined Merling struck the pregnant woman. The No. 32 overall pick in 2008, Merling's two-year career has mostly been a disappointment to this point. He's been unable to emerge as an every-down player. |

Thu May 27 2010 | 10:03 | Phillip Merling arrested? |
Dolphins beat writer Omar Kelly hinted on Twitter Thursday morning that he's heard a rumor DE Phillip Merling was arrested Wednesday night for domestic disturbance. |
According to Kelly, police have yet to file a report, so no charges have been brought against Merling. Merling has no track record of off-the-field trouble, and the violation sounds minor. It wouldn't result in NFL discipline. |

Sun May 23 2010 | 12:03 | Right end job is Merling's to lose |
The right defensive end job is Phillip Merling's to lose, according to beat writer Omar Kelly. |
Merling is trying to fend off first-round pick Jared Odrick in addition to Tony McDaniel and Lionel Dotson. Merling hasn't fully tapped his upside yet and the Dolphins should be excited about the prospects of a rotation with him and Odrick. |
