Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said he is not ready to give Herron the majority of carries in the backfield committee over Trent Richardson. "We're not there," Pagano told ESPN. "You guys might be, but I'm not."
Richardson started last week after Herron started in Week 12. Both got eight carries last week and while Richardson played two more snaps on offense then Herron, Herron outperformed Richardson with 88 yards rushing and a touchdown compared to 12 yards rushing for Richardson. If Herron can keep a hold of the ball (he lost a fumble for a second consecutive game last week), it seems inevitable that he'll get the bulk of playing time since Richardson continues to struggle.

Herron had eight carries for 88 rushing yards and a touchdown, as well as two catches on two targets for eight receiving yards Sunday against Washington, but he lost a fumble for the second consecutive game.
Trent Richardson got the start Sunday ahead of Herron, but he managed only 12 yards on his eight carries while failing to catch a pass. Herron clearly seems like the higher-upside play, though he has to do a much better job of holding onto the football, as another fumble could get him stuck on the sideline. Up next is a Week 14 matchup against a Browns defense allowing the fourth-most rushing yards per game this season.
Wed Nov 26 201414:41Herron practiced well last week according to coach Chuck Pagano
Herron practiced well last week according to coach Chuck Pagano, and could start again Sunday against Washington depending on his practice performance in the coming days, Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star reports.
Herron drew the start this past Sunday against the Jaguars, recording 12 carries for 65 yards and five catches for 31 receiving yards. Meanwhile, fellow RB Trent Richardson had 13 carries for 42 rushing yards and a touchdown in the game. Regardless of who gets the starting nod in Week 13, we'd expect some form of a time-share to be in play, but in any case, it's clear that in the absence of Ahmad Bradshaw, Herron will continue to see his share of touches in the Indy offense going forward.

Herron got the start ahead of Trent Richardson on Sunday against the Jaguars, and he finished with 12 carries for 65 rushing yards and five catches on five targets for 31 receiving yards.
Herron had been used as the No. 3 running back for much of this season, but he moved to the top of the depth chart ahead of Trent Richardson after Ahmad Bradshaw was placed on season-ending injured reserve after suffering a fractured fibula in last Sunday's game against the Patriots. Herron led the team in rushing yards, though Richardson finished with one more carry and scored a one-yard touchdown in the third quarter. It appears that the two backs could very well work in a timeshare, which will only limit their respective fantasy prospects. Up next is a Week 13 matchup against a Redskins defense that came into Sunday allowing 104.2 rushing yards per game, which ranks 11th in the NFL.
Sun Nov 23 201412:58Dan Herron: Starts At RB
Herron has been announced as Indy's starting running back against Jacksonville, the Indianapolis Star reports.
He'll get the start over Trent Richardson with Ahmad Bradshaw out with a leg injury. Herron and Richardson still seem likely to split carries, but Herron could have a much larger role than expected.

Herron played just one snap on offense in Sunday's loss to New England, but will likely have a larger role as the backup to Trent Richardson with Ahmad Bradshaw out with a broken ankle.
It's not hard to envision Herron getting a significant number of the snaps at running back given Trent Richardson's struggles on offense this season (just 3.4 yard per carry) even though Herron hasn't had much of a role this season (just 22 carries).

Herron had eight carries for 10 yards and one reception for four yards in Monday's 40-24 win over the Giants.
With Trent Richardson back from a hamstring injury, Herron was merely the No. 3 running back. Though the former Ohio St. Buckeye led the Colts in carries, he didn't get any touches until garbage time in the fourth quarter.

Herron had one carry for two yards and one reception for five yards in Sunday's loss to Pittsburgh.
Herron worked as the backup to Ahmad Bradshaw with Trent Richardson sidelined with a hamstring injury. However, the Colts fell behind and barely ran the ball (just ten overall carries), which limited Herron's usage. Herron could reprise his role as Bradshaw's back up next week if Richardson's hamstring remains a problem.

Herron had five carries for 37 yards in Sunday's blowout win over the Bengals.
It was just the third game this season he's received a carry and it came in a blowout. Herron isn't likely to be a factor unless Trent Richardson or Ahmad Bradshaw are hurt.
Mon Sep 8 201413:21Herron did not play in Sunday's loss at Denver
Herron did not play in Sunday's loss at Denver.
Herron had an impressive preseason and is the No. 3 running back as the season begins, but it looks like he'll be stuck on the bench unless Trent Richardson or Ahmad Bradshaw are hurt.

Herron had eight carries for 68 yards in Saturday's preseason loss to New Orleans.
Herron has had a strong preseason (104 yards rushing in three games, plus 53 yards receiving) and should begin the season as the No. 3 running back. With Trent Richardson struggling in the preseason and Ahmad Bradshaw returning from a neck injury, it's possible Herron could be a factor at some point this season.
Thu Aug 7 201423:54Herron has inside track to 3rd running back spot
Herron has the inside track to the No. 3 running back spot, ESPN's Mike Wells reports.
Herron was the surprising star of Thursday's preseason opener against the Jets, catching six passes for 36 yards and a touchdown, and adding 26 yards on seven carries. His competition for the No. 3 role comes in the form of Zurlon Tipton and Phillip Tanner. The battle isn't insignificant, as the Colts' top two running backs -- Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw -- have both dealt with more than their fair share of injuries the last few seasons.
Mon Dec 2 201316:09Boom Herron done for season w/ pec injury
Colts placed RB Dan "Boom" Herron on injured reserve with a torn pectoral, ending his season.
The reserve runner managed 33 yards on four carries in Week 12, which is just one yard less than Trent Richardson has combined for the past two weeks. A sixth-round pick of the Bengals in 2012, Herron is not under contract for 2014, but will likely spend training camp with the Colts.

Sun Sep 1 201315:11Bengals sign up practice squad
Bengals signed RB Dan Herron, OT Reid Fragel, WR Cobi Hamilton, C T.J. Johnson, CB Chris Lewis-Harris, CB Onterio McCalebb, and LB J.K. Schaffer to their practice squad.
Herron will essentially be the Bengals' No. 5 back to open the season, behind BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Gio Bernard, Cedric Peerman, and Rex Burkhead. McCalebb is a blazing speedster the team is trying to convert to cornerback.

Sat Aug 31 201313:02Bengals waive 3 players
Bengals waived RB Dan Herron and LB J.K. Schaffer, and released OT Dennis Roland.
Roland is Cincinnati's longtime "jumbo" tight end and sometimes right-tackle starter. Herron was beaten out by Cedric Peerman and rookie Rex Burkhead.

Tue Dec 4 201215:27Bengals promote RB Dan Herron
Bengals promoted RB Dan Herron from their practice squad.
A sixth-round rookie, "Boom" managed just 42 yards on 26 preseason carries with the Bengals. His elevation to the 53-man roster suggests Cedric Peerman's ankle sprain is of the nagging variety. Brian Leonard will likely take over as BenJarvus Green-Ellis' primary backup.

Tue Oct 9 201210:18Dan Herron won't be called up
The Bengals are not expected to call up RB Dan Herron from the practice squad despite Bernard Scott's season-ending injury.
Herron, a sixth-round rookie, still has "a ways to go," according to OC Jay Gruden. The Bengals will roll with Brian Leonard and Cedric Peerman behind starter BenJarvus Green-Ellis.

Bengals waived or released RB Dan Herron, QB Zac Robinson, WR Vidal Hazelton, FB James Develin, FB Jourdan Brooks, TE Colin Cochart, OT Matt O'Donnell, OG Otis Hudson, and C Reggie Stephens.
Special teamer Cedric Peerman earned the final running back spot ahead of sixth-rounder Herron. Hazelton's releases leaves not only Mohamed Sanu and Marvin Jones on the roster, but also Ryan Whalen. The Bengals kept seven at the position.

Mon Jul 16 201200:24Herron, Peerman battling for one roster spot
Bengals RBs Dan Herron and Cedric Peerman will battle for one roster spot in training camp.
The Bengals could also turn elsewhere if neither impresses, but for now Herron and Peerman are competing for one job behind BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Bernard Scott, and Brian Leonard. Beat writer Joe Reedy expects the No. 4 spot to come down to special teams production. It was a strength for Peerman last season, as he tied for second on the Bengals with 13 special teams tackles.
