Donnell caught 1-of-2 targets for six yards in Sunday's 27-0 loss to the Eagles.
Donnell has put owners in a tough spot with his second straight dud, after quickly going from relative unknown to early-season breakout star. His lack of involvement is more concerning than the lack of production, though the two are quite obviously related. Donnell may see his targets bounce back in the coming weeks, as Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz suffered a torn patellar tendon during Sunday's game. Still, Donnell now looks like a risky starter in many leagues, just two weeks removed from a three-TD performance that seemed to establish him as a weekly option.

Donnell failed to catch the only ball thrown his way Sunday against the Falcons.
After catching seven passes on eight targets for 54 yards and three touchdowns in Week 4 against the Redskins, Donnell came crashing back down to Earth to post his worst game of the season. His previous season-low in receiving yards was 45, which came in Week 3 against the Texans when he had a then-season low six targets. While the Giants ran the ball more than they threw it Sunday, it was still shocking that Donnell finished with only one target. He'll look to bounce back in Week 6 against an Eagles defense that has allowed the most passing touchdowns this season.

Donnell had seven receptions for 54 yards and three touchdowns on eight targets in Thursday's 45-14 win over the Redskins.
Now at 25 catches for 236 yards and four touchdowns through four games, Donnell can no longer be written off as the dump-off pass beneficiary of a struggling offense. He remains heavily involved as the far-and-away No. 1 tight end, and has proven to be a much more talented receiver than expected. While not particularly fast or agile, the 6-6 former UDFA appears to have excellent hands, and is an impressive route runner for his size. He's also a solid blocker, which should protect his role in the offense in the event of an unexpected receiving slump. The Giants have been using Donnell the way other teams use more established receivers at the position, often splitting him out wide in obvious passing situations, and frequently looking his way in the red zone. Donnell's first two touchdowns in Thursday's game came on seam routes near the goal posts, while his third came on a fade to the right corner, courtesy of a flawless pass from Eli Manning. Expect Donnell to stay heavily involved in what now looks like a rather respectable offense. Week 5 brings a favorable home matchup with the Atlanta Falcons.

Donnell caught all six of his targets for 45 yards, but lost a fumble.
Donnell has turned out to be a reliable receiver, but he's third in the pecking order right now behind Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle, and rookie Odell Beckham could be back in the mix eventually.

Donnel had seven catches on nine targets for 81 yards Sunday against the Cardinals.
Donnell led the Giants in receptions and receiving yards for the second consecutive game, falling one target short of sharing the team-lead in that category. Donnell has become a very comfortable receiving option for quarterback Eli Manning, who is expected to throw plenty of passes this season. While backup tight end Daniel Fells caught a touchdown Sunday, Donnell is still a very solid fantasy option.

Donnell caught five passes for 56 yards and a touchdown on eight targets in Monday's 35-14 loss to the Lions.
Donnell led the team in receptions, yardage and targets, which isn't a good sign for the Giants. While he did make some nice plays in Monday's game, Donnell isn't particularly fleet-footed or nimble. On the bright side, he seems to have emerged victorious in Big Blue's tight end battle, as he played the vast majority of the snaps in Monday's game. That said, Monday's production is probably about as good as it will get for Donnell.

Donnell caught four passes for 60 yards on six targets in Thursday's preseason finale against the Patriots.
While the Giants' tight end situation is still far from settled, Donnell finally made his case in Thursday's game. However, according to Ebenezer Samuel of the NY Daily News, Kellen Davis started for a second consecutive week. The Giants may use a rotation at the position, and even if one player were to dominate the snaps, fantasy value would still be hard to come by. Neither Davis nor Donnell offers much upside as a receiver.

Kellen Davis started over Donnell in Friday's preseason game against the Jets, NJ.com reports.
Both Davis and Donnell are run-blocking specialists, with neither possessing much in the way of fantasy upside. They combined for zero targets in Friday's game. Donnell started the first three preseason games, including the Hall of Fame Game.

Donnell caught two passes for 14 yards on four targets in Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers
Donnell started for the second week in a row, but he saw three of his four targets in the second quarter with Ryan Nassib under center. Donnell seems to have the early edge, but this has the look of a true position battle. The Giants' tight end group probably won't be a good source of production this season, regardless of how the snaps are divvied up.

Donnell started and caught one pass for 13 yards in Sunday's Hall of Fame Game against the Bills.
Daniel Fells also played a few snaps with the first-team offense, catching one pass for 10 yards. Donnell, a 2012 UDFA, is listed atop the Giants' initial depth chart. This should be a true position battle, with Adrien Robinson and Xavier Grimble also possibly in the mix.
Sat Jul 26 201414:24Larry Donnell favorite for tight end job
ESPN New York's Dan Graziano confirms Larry Donnell "seems to have emerged" as the more likely candidate for the starting tight end job than Adrien Robinson.
Donnell has been limited to special teams his first two seasons, but opened training camp as the No. 1 tight end. Graziano believes the Giants "really, really like Donnell" and "don't have any clearly superior options." The Giants' tight end situation is almost certainly going to be a committee in 2014. Robinson has the most passing game upside and will continue to push Donnell, with Daniel Fells also in the mix for snaps.
