Wed Jul 25 201210:25Chad Johnson's contract has no guarantees
NFL.com's Bryan McIntyre reports there are no guarantees in Chad Johnson's one-year, $925,000 contract.
The contract does call for another $1.075 million in incentives tied to receptions. Johnson offers a quickness and experience lacking in Miami's wide receiver corps, but he's going to have to earn a starting job to stay on the final roster. The Dolphins won't want to carry an aging receiver as a reserve if he doesn't contribute on special teams.

Tue Jul 24 201220:45Chad Johnson expects 'monster year'
Chad Johnson expects to have a "monster year," and has vowed to go back to his "normal ways."
The man formerly known as Ochocinco believes the Patriots' rigidly-structured ways stifled his game last season. "My personality was controlled last year. You didn't hear me at all last year," Johnson said. "When my mouth is running, it forces me to perform. ... One of the things I like about being here, that's so refreshing, and is such a weight off my back, is I can be me, whatever that entails. When I can be me, I am loose." It's likely the Pats' charmless style had at least some negative effect on Ocho's game, but the ability to run his mouth at will will hardly be a cure all for his rapidly diminishing physical skills.

Mon Jul 23 201210:39Chad Ochocinco changes name back to Johnson
Chad Ochocinco legally changed his last name back to Johnson Monday.
With his career spiraling downward rapidly, the Ochocinco era has sputtered out. Johnson previously said that the name change is part of "getting back to the basics, going back to the root of how it all started." We'll get a good look at his battle to claim a starting wideout spot during Hard Knocks, but fantasy owners shouldn't have high hopes with Johnson turning 35 in January.

Wed Jul 11 201214:32Longtime GM skeptical Ochocinco will 'get it'
One longtime NFL general manager expressed skepticism that Chad Ochocinco will turn himself around with the Dolphins.
"His best asset is his ability to get separation on routes," the GM said. "But you want a disciplined receiver to be in the right spots, and that's not what this guy is. I would not have touched him. His personality issues are not going to change. I don't know if he's ever going to get it." This basically explains why Ocho attracted scant interest outside of Miami after the Patriots cut him in early June.

Tue Jul 3 201215:38Ochocinco plans to play until he's 40
Chad Ochocinco plans to play in the NFL until he's 40 years old.
"There is physically nothing wrong with me," insists Ochocinco, who wants to race Clyde Gates -- the fastest player on the team -- to prove it. "I've still got it. I'm a lot smarter and I'm still fast ... The Dolphins are the right team, the right offense. I'm at the good place in my life. Everything fits perfectly for me." Entering his age-34 season, we're not confident Ochocinco will play more than another year or two.

Wed Jun 20 201208:19Ochocinco going back to Johnson?
Chad Ochocinco said he will change his last name back to Johnson on July 4.
Ocho sounded very mature and focused during his first interview as a Dolphin Tuesday. "For me, it's about me getting back to the basics, going back to the root of how it all started," he said. "I think I kind of lost that and I'm looking to go back to Chad Johnson and just make it live again." Returning to Johnson won't change the fact that he'll be 35 in January.

Tue Jun 19 201214:38Ochocinco flashes with second-team offense
Chad Ochocinco "showed good flashes" while working with the second-team offense in Dolphins practice Tuesday.
"He's been good. So far he's fitting in well," said coach Joe Philbin, who estimated that Ochocinco has missed "78 percent" of offensive installation. "We're spoon feeding him." One beat writer nominated Ochocinco as the team's "top performer" in Tuesday's session.

Wed Jun 13 201213:07Ochocinco to struggle with Dolphins offense?
CBS Sports' Rich Gannon suggested that Chad Ochocinco may struggle to learn the Dolphins' offense after having similar trouble in New England.
Gannon went to a Super Bowl in Jon Gruden's West Coast system, so he knows a thing or two about it. "You would think a veteran guy could learn a game plan," said Gannon. "(The Patriots) kept him around in the offseason program this year and he was still struggling. Now, going to a West Coast offense, he may struggle there." Gannon hinted that old Bengals OC Bob Bratkowski often dumbed down Cincinnati's offense to account for Ocho's limited offensive knowledge.

Tue Jun 12 201212:31Chad Ochocinco's deal worth $925,000
SI.com's Peter King reports that Chad Ochocinco's one-year deal with the Dolphins is worth $925,000 in base value.
It's the veteran's minimum for a player of Ocho's experience. Per King, Ochocinco can double his earnings via "steep" incentives based on catching at least 80 balls. It sounds like no portion of the contract is guaranteed. King does say he's "told" that Ochocinco is "supremely motivated" to not only prove he's still a difference-making NFL wideout, but that he can learn an offense.

Mon Jun 11 201220:58Dolphins sign Ochocinco to one-year contract
Dolphins signed WR Chad Ochocinco to a one-year contract.
Ocho is 34 now, and you don't need us to tell you he hasn't been productive lately. Perhaps he'll concern himself with football in Miami. Assuming he does, we like Ochocinco's chances of beating out the likes of Legedu Naanee and rookie B.J. Cunningham for the starting spot opposite Brian Hartline. The new coaching staff doesn't seem at all taken with second-year wideout Clyde Gates, and Davone Bess is entrenched in the slot. With diminishing ability and a quarterback position destined for in-season musical chairs, it would be an upset if Ochocinco made any noise in 2012 fantasy football.

Mon Jun 11 201220:22Chad Ochocinco signs with Dolphins
Chad Ochocinco's website is reporting that he has signed with the Dolphins.
There's been no official word from the team, but it appears that the two sides have come to terms. Ochocinco is far from a lock to make the 53-man roster, but the Dolphins have a major void that the position. If he does make the team, it's possible that he opens the season in the starting lineup. No longer a threat as an impact, every-down player, he's worth no more than a late-round flier in fantasy drafts.

Mon Jun 11 201219:49Dolphins likely to sign Chad Ochocinco
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports that the Dolphins are talking contract with free agent Chad Ochocinco and that a deal appears likely.
Ochocinco was not signed immediately following his Monday morning workout, but it appears the wide receiver-needy Dolphins are going to give him a shot. Miami presents the 34-year-old with his best chance to start, as his main competition will come from Davone Bess and Brian Hartline.

Mon Jun 11 201212:45Ochocinco leaves Dolphins without a contract
The Dolphins did not sign free agent WR Chad Ochocinco immediately following his Monday morning morning.
Ochocinco wasn't impressive enough to get signed by the receiver-needy Dolphins on the spot. As beat writer Ben Volin puts it, they'll "keep him in their back pocket." At this point, Ocho doesn't have any team beating down his door. He'll be 35 in January and has shown poorly on tape over the last two seasons.

Mon Jun 11 201209:53Ocho's camp believes there's genuine interest
Free agent Chad Ochocinco's camp is optimistic that the Dolphins have genuine interest, according to the Miami Herald.
Ochcinco, 34, will work out for the Dolphins at some point this week. It's an interesting potential landing spot considering Miami features the underwhelmeing Brian Hartline, Davone Bess and Legedu Naanee as their top-three wideouts. Ocho is from South Florida.

Sat Jun 9 201214:48Dolphins to work out Chad Ochocinco this week
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports that the Dolphins will work out free agent Chad Ochocinco this coming week.
Ochocinco wants to play for the Fins, and there seems to be at least some mutual interest. For a guess on what it might cost to sign Ochocinco, Lee Evans inked a one-year, $1.497 million contract with the Jaguars in April. The deal included a $250,000 signing bonus, with nearly $200,000 available through weekly in-season bonuses pending Evans is on Jags' game-by-game roster.

Sat Jun 9 201212:40Ochocinco hoping to swim with Dolphins
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora has been told by team sources from the Rams, Panthers, Cowboys, Ravens, Raiders, and Jaguars that they are in no way interested in free agent Chad Ochocinco.
That leaves the Bills and Dolphins as plausible destinations, but La Canfora gets the impression that Buffalo doesn't think the 34-year-old has much to offer. Ochocinco is from South Florida, which is why Miami is reportedly his preferred destination. Although he's far from a lock to make a 53-man roster, Miami's underwhelming wide receiver unit would give him an opportunity to compete for a significant role. He's expected to have a new home by sometime next week.

Fri Jun 8 201215:11Cowboys scouts unimpressed with Ocho's tape
One Cowboys scout told the Sports XChange that the organization was "fairly unimpressed" with free agent Chad Ochocinco's 2011 game tape.
Shocker. Per Sports XChange's Len Pasquarelli, Dallas' personnel department looked at Ochocinco's tape on Thursday night, after his release from the Patriots. They were underwhelmed, and the Cowboys have focused on acquiring more higher-character players this offseason. We wouldn't look for a marriage here.

Fri Jun 8 201211:28Report: Ochocinco lacked football IQ for Pats
Multiple sources tell the Boston Globe that Chad Ochocinco just didn't have the "football I.Q." to succeed with the Patriots.
"The Patriots would literally tell him to run a route a certain way, and a minute later he would run it the other way," wrote the Globe's Greg Bedard. "It happened all the time." During recent OTAs, he also struggled to recognize zone versus man coverage. Even if it irked Carson Palmer, Ochocinco often got away with freelancing as opposed to running the correct route in Cincinnati. That was never going to work in the Patriots' precision timing offense, which relies on receivers to make pre-snap reads and run exactly where Tom Brady expects them to run.

Fri Jun 8 201210:09Ochocinco needed help lining up in Cincy
According to Bengals.com, T.J. Houshmandzadeh used to tell Chad Ochocinco where to line up on offense in Cincinnati.
Ochocinco's cavalier attitude toward the playbook started long before his one-year stop-over in New England. It certainly didn't endear him to former Bengals OC Bob Bratkowski, now in Jacksonville. "If I went with Tom Brady and didn't produce, I'd hang it up," Houshmandzadeh said of Ochocinco's 2011 struggles.
