In between the two strong showings, Gray had 12 carries for 33 yards against the Broncos, with much of his work coming in garbage time. While Vereen still has the same role as ever, he's in danger of losing touches if the Patriots have renewed faith in their power running game. But, next week brings a matchup that should favor Vereen, with New England facing the excellent Lions defense.

Meanwhile, Jonas Gray -- who had just three carries in Week 7 -- finished the game with 17 carries for 86 yards, essentially working in the heavy-lifting role previously held by Stevan Ridley. In the the coming weeks, there should be added opportunities for Vereen, but they will often be game-plan/flow dependent, which hampers his fantasy reliability in non-PPR formats.

With Stevan Ridley out for the season, look for Vereen to head the Patriots' Week 8 rushing attack, as he did in Week 7, though we wouldn't be surprised to see Jonas Gray -- in a complementary role -- see more than the three carries he recorded last time out. Meanwhile, Brandon Bolden is also on hand in a reserve capacity.
