Mon Sep 1616:34Yoan Moncada Reinstated From Injured List
The Chicago White Sox reinstated third baseman Yoan Moncada (groin) from the 60-day injured list on Monday and optioned outfielder Corey Julks to Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Moncada will finally rejoin the big-league roster after suffering a groin strain back in early April. The 29-year-old Cuban should serve as the team's regular third baseman to close out the year, but fantasy managers obviously shouldn't be relying on him if they are still playing for a championship. Moncada only played in 11 games for the Pale Hose this year before landing on the shelf with his groin strain, and in those 11 contests, he went 11-for-39 (.282) with three doubles, a triple, one steal, five walks and 10 strikeouts. He hit .342 with a home run in 12 minor-league rehab games for Charlotte. Don't expect many counting stats from Moncada the rest of the way.

Mon Sep 918:56Yoan Moncada To Remain In Triple-A
Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada (groin) is expected to remain in Triple-A for now, according to general manager Chris Getz. Moncada has been out since April due to a lingering groin strain. He's 9-for-26 with a home run in eight games with Triple-A Charlotte. For now, the White Sox want Moncada to continue rehabbing until his body feels good enough to return. Honestly, Moncada is set to be a free agent after the season, so the White Sox are likely just waiting out the end of his contract. Miguel Vargas figures to continue seeing everyday time at third base down the stretch of the season. Although, Vargas has struggled to the tune of a .114 batting average since being traded to the South Side. Despite that, the team appears more invested in Vargas getting at-bats than a pending free agent.

Tue Aug 2722:56Yoan Moncada, Michael Soroka Begin Rehab Assignments On Tuesday
Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada (groin) and right-hander Michael Soroka (shoulder) started their minor-league rehab assignments at Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday night, according to the team. Moncada will be restarting his rehab assignment after suffering a setback after five games in early July. The 29-year-old Cuban last played with the White Sox in early April, so he's at least going to need a handful of games on the farm to get his timing back. Moncada will probably be eased back in at third base when he returns in September, making him pretty unattractive in mixed fantasy leagues while playing for the worst team in baseball. Soroka should also be left to the waiver wire in most formats upon his return. The 27-year-old has been out since the All-Star break with a strained right shoulder and didn't look any good earlier this year in Chicago's rotation.

Fri Aug 2319:34Yoan Moncada To Begin Rehab Assignment Next Week
Chicago White Sox general manager Chris Getz said that third baseman Yoan Moncada (groin) and right-hander Michael Soroka (shoulder) will both begin minor-league rehab assignments with Triple-A Charlotte next week. This will be Moncada's second rehab stint after initially being pulled from a rehab assignment earlier this year due to renewed soreness. The 29-year-old has been on the injured list since early April with a groin strain and isn't going to have much fantasy appeal with a little more than a month remaining in the 2024 season. Moncada was hitting .282 (11-for-39) but hadn't homered or driven in a run in 11 games before getting hurt. Soroka is working his way back from a right-shoulder strain and also has very little time to make an impact in deep fantasy leagues. He's gone 0-10 with a 5.23 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in nine outings (seven starts) this year in Chicago.

Thu Aug 821:58Yoan Moncada Getting Closer To Returning
Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada (groin) is getting closer to returning to game action after his rehab stint was put on pause, former manager Pedro Grifol said on Wednesday. The switch-hitting third baseman went 8-for-15 in five games with the Arizona Complex League White Sox before pulling himself out of action. "We'll see how it goes. He should be getting into action here pretty soon," Grifol said. Moncada has been on the 60-day injured list since early April due to a left-groin strain, and his timeline for a return to the hapless White Sox remains relatively murky at the moment. In 11 games this year, the 29-year-old former top prospect is slashing .282/.364/.410 with three doubles and a triple over 39 at-bats. Moncada is likely to handle everyday at-bats at the hot corner when he's eventually reinstated from the IL, but his fantasy upside will be diminished by Chicago's weak lineup.

Mon Jul 2222:40Yoan Moncada Pulled Off Rehab Assignment
Chicago White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said that third baseman Yoan Moncada (groin) was pulled off his minor-league rehab assignment "with some anticipated soreness." "Anticipated soreness that we want to err on the side of caution. There's nothing where we feel he's taken a step back," Grifol said. While it doesn't appear to be a big setback for the 29-year-old infielder, it's a step back nevertheless for a player that hasn't been on the field in the big leagues since injuring his groin on April 9. Before being pulled off his rehab assignment, Moncada went 8-for-15 with a double in five games in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. He will eventually return to the last-place Pale Hose in the second half, but that probably won't come until August now. Moncada was hitting .282 (11-for-39) with no homers before his injury in April and should remain on the waiver wire in mixed leagues.

Wed Jul 1016:05White Sox Optimistic Yoan Moncada Will Return Soon
The Chicago White Sox seem optimistic that third baseman Yoan Monada's (groin) minor-league rehab assignment could be relatively quick. Moncada is going to start serving as the designated hitter before playing third base. Manager Pedro Grifol said Moncada is feeling good and the team is hoping to "push him a little bit," with hopes of a post All-Star-break return. The 29-year-old infielder started his rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League on Tuesday after not playing at all for the previous three months due to a serious groin strain. While we wouldn't bank on Moncada being ready to come off the injured list for the start of the second half of the season late next week, he should be back with the White Sox by the end of July, barring a setback. When healthy, Moncada will settle back in as Chicago's starting third baseman.

Fri Jul 519:51Yoan Moncada To Start Rehab Assignment On Tuesday
Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada (groin) will start serving as the designated hitter in the Arizona Complex League on Tuesday, according to manager Pedro Grifol. If all goes well on his rehab assignment, Moncada could return to the White Sox by the end of July. The 29-year-old Cuban infielder has been on the shelf since early April after suffering a serious groin strain. The White Sox are going to give Moncada plenty of time to get himself up to speed in the minors before they consider activating him from the injured list in the second half of the season. But when he returns, he should take over regular duties at third base in Chicago. Fantasy managers in mixed leagues can take a wait-and-see approach on the oft-injured third baseman. Moncada has just one 20-homer season in eight big-league seasons and hadn't gone deep in 11 games in 2024 before getting hurt.

Wed Apr 1716:52Yoan Moncada Heading To Arizona To Rehab
Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada (groin) is feeling better and is heading to extended spring training in Arizona to continue his full rehab process. Moncada landed on the 60-day injured list with a left-groin strain, so he's most likely not going to return for the White Sox or fantasy managers until after the All-Star break. It's getting hard to justify holding onto the oft-injured 28-year-old third baseman in mixed fantasy leagues, even though he started the year hitting .282 (11-for-39) with no home runs and no RBI in his first 11 games before getting hurt. Braden Shewmake got the start at the hot corner on Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals, but Gavin Sheets is also an option at the position when he's not serving as the designated hitter.

Wed Apr 1016:01Yoan Moncada Lands On Injured List, Expected To Miss 3-6 Months
The Chicago White Sox placed third baseman Yoan Moncada (groin) on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday with a left-groin strain, but he's expected to miss three to six months. Outfielder Oscar Colas was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Moncada could end up missing the rest of the season after getting hurt while running to first base in the second inning on Tuesday. It's a huge disappointment for Moncada and the White Sox, especially with outfielders Eloy Jimenez (groin) and Luis Robert Jr. (hip) also on the IL. Moncada had gone 11-for-39 (.282) with three doubles and four runs scored in 11 games this year. Both Lenyn Sosa and Braden Shewmake could see more playing time on the infield with the 28-year-old out for the foreseeable future. Sosa is starting at third base and hitting second against the Guardians on Wednesday.

Tue Apr 919:07Yoan Moncada Removed From Tuesday's Game
Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada (groin) was removed early during Tuesday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Moncada has been dealing with a lingering issue since the start of the season. The expectation is that he'll join teammates Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert Jr. on the injured list. The White Sox are likely to have Moncada undergo further testing before making any moves.

Tue Apr 917:09Yoan Moncada Dealing With Hip/Groin Injury
Chicago White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said that third baseman Yoan Moncada (hip, groin) is dealing with a nagging hip/adductor injury for the last three to four days, but the skipper said he doesn't expect the injury to keep Moncada out of the lineup. "He's doing a really good job maintaining it," Grifol said. The White Sox can ill-afford anymore injuries to key players with Eloy Jimenez (groin) and Luis Robert Jr. (hip) already on the injured list. The 28-year-old Moncada has had his fair share of injuries over the years, too, but he remains in the lineup at third base while batting second on Tuesday against Cleveland Guardians left-hander Logan Allen. The Cuban switch-hitter is hitting .270 (10-for-37) in the early going, but he hasn't hit a home run or driven in a run yet in 10 contests.

Fri Jan 2614:53Yoan Moncada Feeling Healthy Ahead Of Spring Training
Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada is feeling healthy and motivated as spring training nears. The veteran dealt with knee and back issues in the 2022 and 2023 seasons as he appeared in just 92 games in 2023 after appearing in just 104 games in the 2022 campaign. "I'm motivated and excited because I'm healthy. That's the only thing I want. If I'm healthy, I know I can do a lot of good things in the field. I'm excited right now to get to spring training and start working," he told the media at White Sox FanFest. The 28-year-old hit .260 with 11 home runs and one stolen bases across 357 plate appearances last season after hitting just .212 with 12 HR and two SB in 433 trips to the plate in 2022. His 2019 career year saw him hit .315 with 25 HR and 10 SB across 132 games played.

Sun Sep 10 202311:22Yoan Moncada Sitting From Sunday’s Lineup
Chicago White Sox infielder Yoan Moncada (knee) is missing from Sunday's lineup against the Detroit Tigers. The 28-year-old was forced Saturday's game after re-aggravating his right knee injury during a swing. Moncada should be considered day-to-day with his next day to return coming on Monday for the series opener versus the Kansas City Royals. The switch-hitter has hit well over the last month, batting .348 (32-for-92) with five home runs, eight doubles, and 18 RBI since Aug. 9. Lenyn Sosa will hit ninth and defend the hot corner on Sunday.

Sat Sep 9 202322:56Yoan Moncada Dealing With Sore Right Knee
Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada (knee) aggravated his right knee injury on a swing during Saturday's loss to the Detroit Tigers. He went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts during Saturday's 3-1 loss to Detroit. The 28-year-old was seen icing his knee in postgame. It's unclear when Moncada initially hurt his knee and is considered day-to-day. Moncada is slashing .260/.304/.412 with eight home runs, 34 RBI, 28 runs, and one stolen base over 77 games in 2023. Fantasy managers will have to check back on Sunday to see if Moncada is active for the series finale versus the Tigers before inserting him into their lineups.

Sat Aug 26 202323:29Yoan Moncada Cranks A Three-Run Homer Saturday
Chicago White Sox infielder Yoan Moncada went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and a walk as his team beat the Oakland A's 6-2 Saturday. Moncada's home run was a 409-foot blast and he now has five home runs this season. Battling injuries, he's only played in 66 games posting a slash line of .233/.277/.363 while driving in 26 runs in 240 trips to the plate. Since coming off the injured list a month ago, the 28-year-old has launched two dingers.

Tue Jul 25 202320:35White Sox Activate Yoan Moncada From Injured List
The Chicago White Sox activated third baseman Yoan Moncada (back) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned catcher Carlos Perez to Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. The team also outrighted right-hander Bryan Shaw to Charlotte. Moncada immediately returned to third base and was hitting fifth in the batting order on Tuesday against Chicago Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks. The 28-year-old is back after missing six weeks with a back injury. It's hard for fantasy managers to get very excited about Moncada, as he's in the midst of another disappointing season thanks to two separate lengthy trips to the IL. In just 38 games, he's slashing .232/.279/.370 with three homers, eight doubles, a triple, 13 RBI and 17 runs scored in 147 plate appearances. Moncada's return is likely bad news for Jake Burger, although Burger shifted over to second base on Tuesday.

Fri Jul 14 202322:00Yoan Moncada Starts Rehab Assignment
Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada (back) started his minor-league rehab assignment on Friday with Triple-A Charlotte. Moncada hasn't played much this year due to injuries and was last seen on a major-league field on June 13, so expect him to have a rather lengthy rehab assignment before returning to the White Sox. The 28-year-old Cuban switch-hitter also wasn't thriving at the plate before his injury, slashing .232/.279/.370 with three home runs, eight doubles, a triple, 13 RBI and 17 runs scored in 147 plate appearances over 38 games. Jake Burger, who has mostly benefitted from playing time at third with Moncada sidelined, has 19 long balls, but he's also hitting .220 (53-for-241) with 88 K's in 263 plate appearances.

Tue Jul 4 202318:42Yoan Moncada To Begin Rehab Assignment After All-Star Break
Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada (back) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment after the All-Star break. The switch-hitter has been sidelined since mid-June due to inflammation in his lower back. It sounds like Moncada has been slowly working his way back, but appears ready to get back into game action. He was slashing .232/.279/.370 with three homers, 13 RBI before landing on the injured list. The hope is that he'll be able to return in late-July.

Sun Jul 2 202309:10Yoan Moncada Improving, Not Ready To Swing
Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada (back) is doing running and fielding work, but isn't quite ready to take swings, per manager Pedro Grifol. The 28-year-old was put on the injured list with lower-back pain on June 15 for the second time this season, so it's been a lingering concern. Moncada is hitting just .232 with a .649 OPS, three home runs, 13 RBI, and one stolen base over 138 at-bats this season. With the switch-hitter expected out through July, Moncada does not portray a very strong redraft-league fantasy stash in shallow formats.
