Fri Oct 18 2013 | 21:23 | Jose Arredondo elects to become free agent |
Jose Arredondo has elected free agency. |
The 29-year-old right-hander did not appear in the big leagues with the Reds in 2013, compiling a brutal 5.87 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 62/39 K/BB ratio over 53 2/3 innings at Triple-A Louisville. He's still young enough and talented enough that there will be interested teams willing to let him compete for a bullpen spot. |

Sun May 26 2013 | 10:27 | Jose Arredondo suspended at Triple-A |
Jose Arredondo has been suspended at Triple-A Louisville for violating team rules. |
Louisville manager Jim Riggleman wouldn't go into details other than to say that Arredondo, who holds a 4.15 ERA and 35/20 K/BB ratio in 21 2/3 Triple-A frames, will be away from the club for 10-14 days. "We have basic rules, he violated one of those rules, we decided a suspension was warranted," Riggleman explained. "I talked to my bosses in Cincinnati and this is what they came up with. He'll be away from us maybe 10 days to two weeks. He'll be working out, in uniform, somewhere, but it will be a while." |

Sun Mar 31 2013 | 15:06 | Jose Arredondo outrighted |
Reds sent RHP Jose Arredondo outright to Triple-A Louisville. |
Arredondo will have to go through waivers and figures to be scooped up by someone. He posted ERAs of 3.23 and 2.95 in 2011 and 2012, respectively, while striking out nearly a batter per inning, so he can certainly be useful as a middle relief option. |

Sun Mar 31 2013 | 12:02 | Izturis, Parra, Simon make Reds' roster |
Cesar Izturis, Manny Parra and Alfredo Simon are expected to make the Reds' Opening Day roster. |
The Cincinnati Enquirer's John Fay believes that means Jason Donald, Logan Ondrusek and Jose Arredondo will not make the team. Arredondo has pitched pretty well the last two seasons for the Reds and had a great spring, so him failing to make the roster would be a surprise. Both he and Donald are out of options and, thus, would have to clear waivers in order to report to Triple-A. That seems unlikely to happen. |

Tue Jan 31 2012 | 13:29 | Arredondo's two-year deal worth $2M |
Jose Arredondo's new two-year contract extension with the Reds is worth a total of $2 million. |
Arredondo signed the deal last week, avoiding arbitration for the next two seasons. The 27-year-old right-hander registered a cool 3.23 ERA and 48/31 K/BB ratio across 53 innings last year for the Reds. With a little better control, he could become a truly dangerous setup man. |

The Reds and RHP Jose Arredondo avoided arbitration by agreeing to a two-year contract. |
No word yet on the financial terms of the deal. Arredondo, a first-year arbitration-eligible reliever, posted a 3.23 ERA and 48/31 K/BB ratio in 53 innings last season for the Reds. If he can rein in his control issues a little, the 27-year-old righty could develop into a reliable setup man. |

"From the reports I'm getting, all of that stuff is getting a lot better," said Reds pitching coach Bryan Price. "The arm strength is more consistent and the breaking ball and split have been much, much better -- what we expected from him when we got him." Arredondo, now 27 years old, hasn't pitched in the majors since 2009 due to Tommy John surgery. |

Mon Mar 28 2011 | 16:38 | Arredondo to begin season on DL |
Reds manager Dusty Baker confirmed Monday that Jose Arredondo (elbow) will begin the season on the disabled list. |
Arredondo is still attempting to work his way back from Tommy John surgery that cost him the entire 2010 season. He gave up 12 runs on 13 hits over 6 2/3 innings this spring while walking four and striking out six, so placing him on the DL will allow the Reds to keep him for a little longer. |

Fri Feb 18 2011 | 12:09 | Reds impressed so far with Jose Arredondo |
Reds manager Dusty Baker was raving about Jose Arredondo in spring camp on Friday. |
"He's going to open some eyes," Baker said. "He has live arm. He had a live arm with the Angels. I'm a bit surprised the Angels didn't wait on him." Arredondo had a fantastic 1.62 ERA and 55/22 K/BB ratio over 61 innings in 2008 for the Angels and is only 26 years old. He should make a fine setup man behind Aroldis Chapman and closer Francisco Cordero. |

Thu Jan 20 2011 | 11:39 | Reds optimistic about Arredondo |
The Reds are optimistic that Jose Arredondo (elbow) will be able to contribute in their bullpen this season. |
The Reds signed Arredondo last winter, even though he was set to undergo Tommy John surgery. After a long wait, they are ready to reap the benefits. "He's a talented guy, one of those young guys with a lot of skills," said Bill Bavasi, Reds vice president of scouting, player development and international operations. "The surgery, off-time and rehab really opened his eyes to what the game is all about. What little I saw in the instructional league -- he's coming along like Edinson Volquez." Arredondo, who turns 27 in March, posted a 6.00 ERA in 2009, partially due to his elbow, but he had a 1.62 ERA and 55/22 K/BB ratio over 61 innings as a rookie in 2008. He could surprise this season. |
