Sun Mar 23 2014 | 15:17 | C Hernandez opts out, looking for MLB gig |
Ramon Hernandez has opted out of his contract but will stay with the Royals to work out, reports FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal. |
Hernandez is allowed to sign a big league deal elsewhere and skip town any time he likes, but it seems highly unlikely he'll find one. It's possible he could return to Kansas City on a minor league deal and hang around Triple-A Omaha in case injuries strike. Hernandez, who turns 38 in May, hit .208/.291/.438 over 17 games with the Dodgers last season and also spent some time with the Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate. |

Ramon Hernandez has yet to catch this spring due to a sore knee. |
The veteran has been limited to first base duty so far but is expected to begin catching soon. "We'll see how he feels," Royals manager Ned Yost said. Hernandez is competing for the backup catcher job and the injury certainly isn't helping his chances. |

The Dodgers have chosen to keep Tim Federowicz around as A.J. Ellis' backup instead. Hernandez has batted only .208/.291/.438 with three homers this season but shouldn't have trouble catching on elsewhere. |

Ramon Hernandez homered, doubled and walked against the Angels on Thursday. |
The Dodgers called up Tim Federowicz before the game, freeing up Hernandez for DH duties. That aspect of it worked out. What didn't work was Don Mattingly's decision to hit Federowicz ahead of Hernandez; he went 0-for-4. |

Wed May 22 2013 | 16:46 | Ramon Hernandez homers in rare start |
Making his first appearance in 15 days, Ramon Hernandez went 2-for-3 with a homer and two walks on Wednesday. |
Manager Don Mattingly made it obvious he prefers Tim Federowicz to Hernandez as A.J. Ellis' backup, but with Federowicz back in Triple-A, he had no choice but to give Hernandez just his second start in May and sixth of the season. Hernandez came through in a big way, but we'll see if that makes any difference to Mattingly. |

Rockies designated C Ramon Hernandez for assignment. |
He lost out to Yorvit Torrealba for the right to back up Wilin Rosario. The Rockies will try to trade Hernandez and shouldn't have much trouble finding a taker as long as they are willing to eat most of his salary. He's still very capable of being someone's backup. |

Tue Mar 26 2013 | 10:52 | Rockies could release Ramon Hernandez |
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal writes that the Rockies could release Ramon Hernandez if they are unable to find a trade partner. |
The Rockies are expected to carry Yorvit Torrealba as a backup to Wilin Rosario, so there figures to be a resolution this week. The 36-year-old is due $3.2 million this season, so it may be tough to attract much interest unless they cover a portion of the contract. He wouldn't have any trouble finding a home if he hit free agency, though. |

Sun Mar 17 2013 | 10:34 | Ramon Hernandez drawing interest |
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Angels, Pirates, Rays and Phillies are interested in Ramon Hernandez. |
The Rockies would surely love to get out from under Hernandez's $3.2 million salary since they have other options to back up Wilin Rosario in Yorvit Torrealba and Jordan Pacheco. The Rays and Phillies would probably be the best spots for Hernandez in terms of potential playing time, as Tampa is slated to use Jose Molina as its regular catcher and Philly could use him as a fill-in while Carlos Ruiz serves his suspension. |
