Mon Dec 9 201319:00Mark Prior (shoulder) 'officially retired'
Mark Prior told Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press Monday that he is "officially retired."
Prior attempted another comeback with the Reds' Triple-A affiliate in 2013 but had to be shut down after encountering more shoulder problems. The 33-year-old is considering joining the Padres in a front office role. Injuries obviously derailed the former phenom's career, as Prior posted a 3.51 ERA with 757 strikeouts over 657 frames but hadn't appeared in the majors since 2006.

Fri Jun 28 201314:58Reds release Mark Prior from minors deal
Reds released RHP Mark Prior.
Prior had been on Triple-A Louisville's disabled list since April 25 with a right shoulder strain, and evidently the club wasn't optimistic about his chances of recovering and contributing. Though he's still just 32, you've got to wonder if this is finally the end of the line for the former No. 2 overall pick.

Mon May 6 201318:10Mark Prior out with shoulder injury
Mark Prior has been on Triple-A Louisville's disabled list since April 25 with a right shoulder strain.
Prior posted a 4.66 ERA and 9/4 K/BB ratio over 9 2/3 innings before the injury. It's not clear how long he'll be sidelined, but obviously this doesn't bode well for his chances at finally making it back to the majors given his injury history.

Fri Mar 1 201312:51Reds sign Mark Prior to minor league deal
Reds signed RHP Mark Prior to a minor league contract.
The Cincinnati Enquirer's John Fay says the Reds haven't decided whether he'll report to major or minor league camp. Prior, who posted a 3.96 ERA and 38/23 K/BB ratio over 25 innings for Triple-A Pawtucket with the Red Sox last year, will be reunited with former manager Dusty Baker in Cincy. "He called me and asked for a chance," Baker said. "I talked to Walt (Jocketty). (Prior) says he feels good. He feels like he has some unfinished business."

Fri Aug 17 201216:30Red Sox release Mark Prior
Red Sox released RHP Mark Prior.
Prior looked to be making a comeback earlier this season, but had been struggling with his command. He could conceivably shut it down for the year rather than look for a job for the final few weeks of the minor league season.

Fri Aug 10 201211:31Mark Prior has uneven results at Triple-A
Mark Prior has struck out 36 but walked 21 in 23 innings for Triple-A Pawtucket this season.
It's clear that Prior hasn't lost all of his stuff, but he's obviously fighting his control. Slated to turn 32 in less than a month, Prior hasn't pitched in the majors since 2006 and seems unlikely to get a call-up next month unless he can start limiting the free passes.

Mon Jul 2 201218:59Priro (oblique) facing hitters Tuesday
Mark Prior (oblique) is scheduled to face live hitters Tuesday.
Prior was placed on the disabled list with Triple-A Pawtucket last month with an oblique injury, but he was able to make it through a bullpen session Sunday at about 75 percent. The oft-injured right-hander has allowed three runs over nine innings with the PawSox while striking out 20 and walking eight. He's trying to make it back to the big leagues as a reliever.

Mon Jun 25 201220:46Mark Prior placed on minors DL
Mark Prior was placed on Triple-A Pawtucket's disabled list over the weekend due to an injury to his side.
Prior is expected to be fine, as the PawSox likely wouldn't have made a move with him if they weren't dealing with a roster crunch. The former phenom has allowed three runs over nine innings at Pawtucket this season and has a chance to be called up later this season.

Tue Jun 19 201212:00Prior impressing at Triple-A Pawtucket
Mark Prior allowed his first two runs for Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday, but also recorded four strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings of work.
Prior has now punched out a remarkable 19 hitters in just eight innings of work, while walking five. 79% of the outs he's recorded (19-of-24) have now come via the strikeout. He's been able to command all of his pitches effectively, his velocity has sat consistently in the 90-93 range, and his devastating curveball appears to have returned. He's getting closer to the point where he may be deemed major league ready, which would be one heck of a story considering the injuries he's had to battle through.

Fri Jun 1 201219:02Mark Prior joins Triple-A Pawtucket
The Red Sox have promoted Mark Prior to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Prior signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox earlier this month. Rob Bradford of WEEI.com writes that the 31-year-old right-hander was clocked between 90-92 mph with his fastball in extended spring training and has shown "good improvement" with his curveball over the past month. He hasn't pitched in the majors since 2006 due to shoulder problems, but he's trying to make his way back as a reliever.

Sun Apr 8 201208:46Mark Prior ready to audition for teams soon
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that Mark Prior will be ready to throw for teams soon.
Cafardo was told by major league sources that Prior's throwing sessions to this point have been "decent." The now 31-year-old dealt with a variety of injuries last season while in the Yankees system and underwent offseason sports hernia surgery, but he's not ready to call it a career just yet. He hasn't appeared in the majors since 2006.

Wed Mar 28 201215:24Prior ready to sign with MLB team
Chris Young told reporters Wednesday that Mark Prior is ready to sign with a team.
Prior was limited to just 12 innings in the Yankees' farm system last seson due to a wide variety of injuries, including shoulder discomfort, a groin issue, a bruised forearm. The 31-year-old right-hander had sports hernia surgery during the offseason, but still hopes to make one more comeback.

Sun Feb 5 201217:27Prior expected to "attempt one more comeback"
Mark Prior is expected to "attempt one more comeback," according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.
Prior, now 31, spent some of last season in the Yankees' organization. He worked his velocity back up to the low-90s, but battled shoulder discomfort, a groin issue, a bruised forearm and other maladies during the season. He recently had sports hernia surgery, which he is rehabbing in San Diego, and is hoping to audition for teams next month. Prior, the No. 2 pick in the 2001 draft, posted a 2.25 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 15/4 K/BB ratio over just 12 minor league innings last year. He hasn't pitched in a major league game since 2006. Don't count out a spring training invitation, however, if his workouts go well in March. As always, he's a terrible bet to ever stay healthy.

Tue Aug 23 201123:44Prior scratched due to shoulder soreness
Mark Prior was scratched from an appearance with the Gulf Coast League Yankees on Wednesday due to shoulder discomfort.
This sounds strangely familiar. Prior, who turns 31 in September, has made six appearances in the Rookie league while rehabbing a groin strain, allowing one run and two hits over six innings while striking out 12 and walking a pair. There is no timetable for his return.

Wed Jul 13 201114:47Prior (groin) makes appearance in GCL
Mark Prior (groin) unearned run and one hit over two innings Wednesday in an appearance with the Gulf Coast League Yankees.
It was his first appearance since missing nearly three months with a strained groin. The 30-year-old right-hander threw 24 pitches and topped out at 90 mph on the radar gun. He'll likely head back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre once he's deemed ready.

Mon Jun 27 201115:46Prior to throw off mound again Tuesday
Mark Prior (groin) is scheduled to throw off a mound again on Tuesday in Tampa, Florida.
Prior tossed a successful bullpen session on Saturday, reporting no pain or discomfort in his groin. The 30-year-old is hoping to reach the majors at some point this season but must first do some serious proving in a minor league setting. He'll report back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre once fully healthy.
