The Los Angeles Angels selected the contract of outfielder Shane Robinson on Friday.Robinson, 32, appeared in 14 games with the Angels earlier this season and went 5-for-25 with six runs scored and one RBI. Robinson owns a .227 average in 430 career games with Los Angeles, St. Louis and Minnesota.The Angels also placed infielder Jefry Marte on the 10-day disabled list with a left foot fracture. The move for Marte, who is batting .173 in 45 games, is retroactive to Tuesday.To create a spot on the 40-man roster for Robinson, Los Angeles designated right-hander Brooks Pounders for assignment. Pounders, 26, posted a 10.45 ERA in 11 major league appearances but was stronger at Triple-A Salt Lake with a 2.38 mark in 38 games.The Angels enter play Friday one game behind the Minnesota Twins for the second wild card spot in the American League. |
