INF Stephen Drew hit a pinch-hit inside-the-park homer in the ninth inning of Tuesday's 5-1 victory over the Phillies, the fourth inside-the-parker in Nationals history, and their second this season. Ryan Zimmerman also hit one on May 15 against Miami. Drew's shot was, in addition, Washington's eighth pinch-hit homer this season, matching a Nationals single-season record. It followed a two-run homer by Danny Espinosa, the fifth time Washington has hit consecutive homers this season. Drew, batting for reliever Felipe Olivero, sent a shot to deep center field that bounced high off the fence and eluded Philadelphia center fielder Odubel Herrera and right fielder Tyler Goeddel. Goeddel finally corralled the ball in medium right field and fired home, but his throw was up the third-base line, allowing Drew to elude catcher Cameron Rupp and slide home. "It kind of happened fast," Drew said. "I saw the ball kick back so I knew I could get to third, but halfway to third I saw (third base coach Bob Henley) still waving his hand, so I said, 'I have to kick it in gear here.' "

INF Stephen Drew hit a two-run pinch-hit homer to tie the game 2-2 on Friday. "I was just trying to get something to drive," Drew said of his homer off Bryan Morris. "I got into something I consider a hitter's count, at 2-1, and got the pitch I wanted and put a good swing on it." Drew was rarely used as a reserve until he came to Washington this year. He has picked up pointers from Clint Robinson and Heisey, who has three pinch-hit homers this year and 14 in his career. "What they are doing is incredible," pitcher Gio Gonzalez said of the bench. Friday was the first time the Nationals ever hit two pinch-hit homers in the same game. "I just get feedback from them," Drew said of Heisey and Robinson. "We have a good bench. It is fun to watch. I stay loose and be ready. It is good feeling tonight. Bryce comes up and does what he does best."

Tue Oct 6 201519:57Drew (concussion) not in lineup for Tuesday's Wild Card game
Drew (concussion) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's Wild Card game.
Drew remains sidelined with his concussion symptoms, and it remains to be seen if he will be able to play if the Yankees advance beyond Tuesday. Rob Refsnyder will draw the start at second base Tuesday night.
Fri Oct 2 201516:41Drew diagnosed with vestibular concussion
Drew has been diagnosed with a vestibular concussion, Meredith Marakovits of the YES Network reports.
Drew was dealing with an illness that has kept him out for the past two weeks, and he'll now have to go through the league's concussion protocol. Combined with his disappointing season at the plate -- he hit just .201 with a .271 OBP -- Drew's year is likely done regardless of how far the Yankees advance in the postseason.
Wed Sep 30 201513:19Drew (consussion) might be done for season
Drew (consussion) might be done for the season, Roger Rubin of Newsday reports.
Drew hasn't played in two weeks and it appears as if his illness are actually concussion-related symptoms. Dustin Ackley has filled in more than admirably for Drew since he's been out of the lineup. If Drew played his final game of the regular season, he'd end with a .201/.271/.381 slash line with 17 home runs and 44 RBI.
Tue Sep 29 201515:44Drew (illness) out of lineup Tuesday
Drew (illness) is out of the lineup Tuesday.
Drew has not played since last Tuesday, and he continues to deal with an illness. He was tested for a concussion over the weekend, but at this point he remains without a timetable.
Mon Sep 28 201511:12Drew dealing with dizziness resulting from head cold
Drew has been dealing with dizziness resulting from a head cold, and underwent concussion tests Saturday, ESPN New York reports.
Drew has seen very limited playing time lately, being held out of the lineup for 13 consecutive games, and this appears to be the reason. The club has not yet received the results of the concussion test, but with just a week left, it's possible the 32-year-old's season could be done if it comes back positive. Drew is slashing .201/.271/.381 on the year, and trade deadline acquisition Dustin Ackley has been hitting well in his stead, so it's unclear how much playing time he'll get when he's back to full health.
Mon Sep 28 201509:12Stephen Drew: Dealing With Possible Concussion
New York Yankees second baseman Stephen Drew continues to experience dizziness after contracting a head cold earlier in the month and could be dealing with a concussion, according to ESPN New York.
New York Yankees second baseman Stephen Drew continues to experience dizziness after contracting a head cold earlier in the month and could be dealing with a concussion, according to ESPN New York. Drew has been in the starting lineup only twice since getting hit in the face by a grounder on Sept. 9. "As players, you play through sickness but really, it was around that time when things were off-balance, everything with the ears," Drew said. "The congestion in my head went and got in my ears. Took some medicine to try to get over that, but it still lingered this long. I'm always available, it’s just that I have to concentrate for ground balls and hitting and everything because of balance, and feeling the way I do, it’s times 10. It’s not that I don’t want to go. It's just that it’s not fair to me and it’s not fair to [the team].” Results from a concussion test performed this weekend have not yet been released.
Tue Sep 22 201518:48Drew not in lineup for Tuesday's game against Blue Jays
Drew is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
It seems safe to say there has been a changing of the guard at second base in New York, with Drew sitting in favor of Dustin Ackley for a fourth straight game. Drew has been out of the lineup for eight straight games overall (including Tuesday), as Brendan Ryan has also seen a couple starts, and it seems likely Drew's opportunities will remain limited over the final two weeks.
Mon Sep 21 201515:43Drew not in lineup Monday against Blue Jays
Drew is not in the lineup Monday against the Blue Jays, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
It will be the fourth straight game Drew is not in the starting lineup, and though he likely wouldn't be in against the left-handed David Price anyway, it appears as though he may have lost his grip on an everyday role. Dustin Ackley, who is hitting .360 since joining the Yankees at the trade deadline, will get his third straight start at the keystone and bat ninth.
