Fri Jun 27 2014 | 14:25 | Byron Mullens doesn't opt in, is a free agent |
Byron Mullens did not exercise his player option with the 76ers and is now a free agent. |
He turned down $1.1 million on the last year of his deal. Mullens had every chance to perform after the trade deadline with the depleted Philly roster, but he couldn't beat out Henry Sims and averaged just 6.8 points, 3.3 boards, 0.4 blocks and 1.1 triples in 13.7 minutes over 18 games. Teams won't be very interested in signing him. |

Sat Apr 12 2014 | 22:23 | Byron Mullens goes for 13 and 7 in loss |
Byron Mullens hit 6-of-12 shots and a 3-pointer for 13 points and seven rebound in Saturday's loss to Charlotte. |
He might be worth using in deeper leagues over the last two games, assuming he keeps getting 20 minutes a night in a couple meaningless games. |

Wed Apr 9 2014 | 11:11 | Byron Mullens (ankle) will return Wednesday |
Byron Mullens (sprained ankle) will return from his five-game absence vs. the Raptors on Wednesday. |
Henry Sims has been playing well as the Sixers' starting center, with Jarvis Varnado backing him up, but Mullens should still carve out 10-15 minutes per game. The Sixers have five games left in their tanked season, which has seen 23 different players filter through their roster. |

Sat Apr 5 2014 | 18:08 | Byron Mullens (ankle) out again Saturday |
Byron Mullens (ankle) is out again on Saturday. |
He remains day-to-day and his absence simply shifts a few more minutes to starting C Henry Sims and backup Jarvis Varnado. |

Thu Apr 3 2014 | 10:12 | Byron Mullens (ankle) could return on Friday |
Byron Mullens (sprained left ankle) said that he could return for Friday's game in Boston. |
Mullens is averaging 13 minutes per game since joining the Sixers, and he doesn't belong on fantasy radars outside of the deepest leagues. |

Wed Apr 2 2014 | 18:10 | Byron Mullens out again on Wednesday |
Byron Mullens (ankle) will not play against the Bobcats on Wednesday. |
The Sixers have confidence in Henry Sims and Jarvis Varnado has been a nice fit in the second unit, so the Sixers won't miss Mullens much tonight. Sims is a must-own player while Varnado is a blocks specialist. |

Sat Mar 29 2014 | 18:28 | Byron Mullens (ankle) won't play Saturday |
Byron Mullens (ankle) will not play vs. Detroit on Saturday. |
Philly could have used his 3-point shooting to clear extra space in the paint vs. the Pistons, but they'll have to make do with heavy minutes from starters Henry Sims and Thaddeus Young, as well as backups Jarvis Varnado and Brandon Davies. |

Thu Mar 27 2014 | 21:02 | Byron Mullens out with an ankle injury |
Byron Mullens suffered an ankle sprain in the first half of Thursday's game and is questionable to return. |
He didn't seem to injury his ankle too badly and was subbed out during free throws. If he needs to miss time, Jarvis Varnado and Henry Sims figure to pick up some of the slack, which isn't much. |

Tue Mar 25 2014 | 01:08 | Byron Mullens scores 15 points vs. Spurs |
Byron Mullens was busy in his 18 minutes of action against the Spurs on Monday with 15 points, eight boards, one steal and three 3-pointers. |
He's served as the backup center and his playing time tonight was his highest since Mar. 14. Henry Sims seems to be locked in as the starter which means Mullens may have a tough time getting more than 20 minutes per night. |

Wed Mar 19 2014 | 22:15 | Byron Mullens plays well through migraine |
Byron Mullens played through a migraine on Wednesday and hit 4-of-5 shots and two 3-pointers for 12 points, three rebounds, two steals and a block. |
He played well tonight, but the fact he played just 15 minutes in each of his last three games means that he's not worth owning in most fantasy leagues. |

Sat Mar 15 2014 | 00:25 | Mullens scores 15 points, hits three treys |
Byron Mullens hit three 3-pointers to finish with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting, five rebounds and two steals in 24 minutes off the bench on Friday. |
Mullens theoretically had a shot at being a poor man's Spencer Hawes but the Sixers are so bad (and so is he) that his production is a crap shoot from night to night. If he can string another good game together in the next one perhaps we'll upgrade his outlook, but for now he's a desperation add in deep leagues at best. |

Wed Mar 5 2014 | 00:32 | Byron Mullens scores 15 points in 20 minutes |
Byron Mullens scored 15 points vs. his former team on Tuesday with six boards, two assists and three 3-pointers in 20 minutes. |
While this entire game was basically garbage time, Mullens did only score two points in the fourth quarter. He does seem like a scheme fit on offense in place of Spencer Hawes, but Mullens' post defense is going to drive coach Brett Brown mad. That said, he is worth a look in deeper leagues since he does take 3-pointers. |

Wed Feb 26 2014 | 21:57 | Byron Mullens quiet off bench Wednesday |
Byron Mullens played 17 minutes off the bench on Wednesday and hit 3-of-11 shots for seven points, three rebounds, one assist, zero blocks and zero 3-pointers. |
This isn't over, as the Sixers are still playing musical big men and Mullens may get an opportunity to start at some point in the next week or so. But as of right now, none of the Sixers centers are reliable enough to be owned in most fantasy leagues. But if you're going to take a flier on one of them, Mullens still gets our vote for 'best bet.' |

Mon Feb 24 2014 | 22:45 | Mullens scores nine points in Sixers debut |
Byron Mullens made his Sixers debut on Monday against the Bucks, scoring nine points on 4-of-6 shooting with one rebound, one assist, one steal, one block and one three in 14 minutes. |
It sounds like the Sixers want to ease him in slowly and it's possible that his conditioning isn't quite where it needs to be after a season of riding the bench in L.A. The Sixers are high on Mullens and it wouldn't be surprising for him to move into a poor man's Spencer Hawes role when it's all said and done. Unless you're loaded in a 10-12 team league, we're all for taking a flier on a guy that could end up being a cornerstone of the fantasy friendly Sixers offense. |

Fri Feb 21 2014 | 14:52 | Mullens, Granger deals not approved yet |
The trades involving the acquisitions of Danny Granger and Byron Mullens have not been approved as of Friday afternoon. |
Granger was still in Indiana saying goodbye to his teammates during Indiana's shootaround, so it's probably safe to assume he won't be in the lineup against the Mavericks on Friday. Mullens' status is not yet known, but we'll pass along any info as it becomes available. The trades for Eric Maynor and Henry Sims have been approved, so they might be used tonight for the short-handed Sixers. |

Fri Feb 21 2014 | 10:01 | GM Hinkie reportedly likes Byron Mullens |
Beat writer Tom Moore hears GM Sam Hinkie "likes" newly acquired Byron Mullens. |
In other words, Mullens is a prospect Hinkie wanted -- not a part of the tanking process. That notion is supported by the fact that Mullens has a player option for $1.06 million in 2014-15, making him one of the few Sixers with a deal beyond this season. With Spencer Hawes and Lavoy Allen gone, the long-range shooting Mullens will battle raw youngster Arentt Moultrie for center minutes. It's very possible he eventually settles into a 27-29 minute per game role. |

Thu Feb 20 2014 | 15:19 | Tanking Sixers add Byron Mullens at deadline |
Clippers traded PF/C Byron Mullens to the Sixers for a second-round pick. |
The tanking Sixers replace Spencer Hawes with a poor man's Spencer Hawes. Mullens goes 7'0/275, but is more of a stretch four than a power player. He's still an interesting name because of the Sixers' fantasy-friendly style and Mullens' ability to shoot the rock. In 41 starts for the Bobcats last season, Mullens averaged 11.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.3 3-pointers per game. He has a $1.06 million player option for the 2014-15 season, so the Sixers apparently see a little something in him. We're still expecting Lavoy Allen to start, but this could shake out as a value-crushing three-man committee between Allen, Mullens and Arnett Moultrie. |

Wed Oct 16 2013 | 00:39 | Byron Mullens plays well in Griffin's absence |
Byron Mullens had 15 points, four rebounds and four more 3-pointers on 5-of-8 shooting in 27 minutes on Tuesday. |
Blake Griffin sat this one out, which is a key fact, but any time Griffin is banged up, it looks like Mullens is going to get minutes. And even when Griffin is playing, Mullens may still be used off the bench as a long-range bomber. Keep an eye on him. |

Tue Oct 15 2013 | 01:45 | Mullens gets loose for 12 three point attempt |
Byron Mullens attempted 12 3-point shots in Monday's preseason loss to the Kings, hitting four of them on his way to 16 points, seven rebounds and one block. |
That's the good news. The bad news is that he hit just 6-of-18 shots overall and had six turnovers on the night. Few big men have the lack of conscience necessary to shoot at will like Mullens, but that is what made him a fantasy phenomena last preseason. Injuries and ineffectiveness made Mullens Mania a short-lived and frustrating experience. |
