McRoberts will sit out Tuesday's preseason game against the Magic with minor knee soreness, Michael Wallace of ESPN.com reports.

The same issue kept McRoberts out of Monday's win over the Spurs, but it appears the Heat are just exercising some precaution with the big man returning from season-ending surgery to repair a torn right meniscus. McRoberts hasn't experienced any notable setbacks in his recovery during training camp, and should be ready to go for the start of the regular season near the end of the month. He's slated to work as the power forward on the Heat's second unit with Mario Chalmers, Gerald Green, Justise Winslow, and Amar'e Stoudemire.

McRoberts (knee) will have his workload monitored as camp gets underway, Jason Lieser of the Palm Beach Press reports.

McRoberts has been fully cleared to participate in training camp, but coach Erik Spoelstra said last week that the Heat will exercise caution as McRoberts returns from knee surgery. For what it's worth, McRoberts said at the end of August that he's in "a good spot" medically, so he is not likely to be limited once the regular season opens. The 28-year-old appeared in only 17 games last season, averaging 4.2 points in 17.4 minutes.

McRoberts was limited to just 17 games last season with a knee injury but early indications from Miami suggest he'll be ready for the start of the regular season come this October. He's in store for a role off the bench behind Chris Bosh (lungs), but both Bosh and McRoberts could conceivably spend time on the court at the same time, which benefits McRoberts' value.

McRoberts (right knee) participated in player-organized practices this week, the Miami Herald reports. "Medically I'm in a good spot and I'm especially excited with our new additions," McRoberts said.

McRoberts tore the meniscus in his right knee in December and had to undergo season-ending surgery. Originally slotted to start at power forward last season, he was plagued by a return from toe surgery at the beginning of last season before suffering the knee injury. With the Bobcats (now Hornets) in 2013-14, McBob started 78 games and averaged 8.5 points, 1.3 three-pointers, 4.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.6 blocks in 30 minutes per game. He's great at being good at everything, and that's where McRoberts' value lies, but he needs to put up good across-the-board production, because he's not particularly great at any one thing. The sum is greater than the parts. Even if McRoberts gets healthy in time for the start of the season, he's destined for a bench role behind Chris Bosh and Hassan Whiteside, and if the team goes small, McRoberts could be squeezed further down the rotation.

McRoberts played 17 games in his first season with the Heat. He was limited during the beginning of the season following offseason toe surgery, and his season ended when he suffered a torn right lateral meniscus in December. As he began to get more playing time in early December, McRoberts became more and more comfortable within the Heat's offense, and in his final two games before the injury, he posted a total of 24 points, nine rebounds and 12 assists all while shooting 10-of-13 from the floor and 4-of-5 from three. The good news for McRoberts is that the Heat are still in need of depth in their frontcourt, and given that he stays healthy, Miami will look at him once again to be a positive contributor off the bench behind Chris Bosh and Hassan Whiteside.

McRoberts returned to action Tuesday following an absence due to illness, but was later benched due to right knee bruising. Considering Wednesday's game comes just one day after the reported injury, it would be a bit surprising if he plays. However, the Heat have listed him as questionable, indicating his return could be possible. Regardless, the questionable designation at least signifies his injury is considered minor.

McRoberts went on to say he was hopeful he could play against Denver Friday, so this is likely not too serious. However, it's also yet another health setback for a player the Heat have tried to give increasing minutes.

McRoberts sat out shootaround with an illness, but he's been cleared to play and should be relatively safe to use. The Heat continue to increase his minutes, but to this point, he's only played a season-high 28 minutes as they continue to try to work him into game shape coming off of toe surgery.

McRoberts is a player capable of filling up the stat sheet and providing numbers that aren't normally provided by a power forward. It's yet to be seen how the Heat will fully utilize him, but if it's anything close to the way he was used in Charlotte he could be a good pickup. He's still a while from being a player to add, so wait until he's able to string a few of these kinds of games together before making any moves.

McRoberts came down with an illness Saturday and was considered doubtful to play as of Sunday afternoon. It appears he'll play through the illness, however, and he'll start alongside Luol Deng and Chris Bosh in the frontcourt.

At this time, it appears McRoberts will not play Sunday, but that could change as tip off approaches. With Luol Deng (hand) questionable, the Heat may be shorthanded at the forward position. Expect Shawne Williams to see an uptick in minutes after playing just 14 against Milwaukee on Friday.

McRoberts started at power forward, replacing Shawne Williams, and contributed four points (2-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt), five assists and three steals in 21 minutes during Wednesday's loss to the Hawks.

McRoberts has now played at least 21 minutes in his last four games. This should continue to increase and thus, he should be given consideration in 12-14 team leagues for scoring and out of position assists.
