The San Diego Padres signed left-handed pitcher
Daniel Camarena to a minor league deal on Monday, according to the team's official transaction log page. Camarena made his Major League debut this past season, throwing 9.1 innings in six relief appearances for the Padres. The left-hander struck out seven batters while allowing 16 hits, 10 earned runs, three walks, and a pair of home runs. He'll provide San Diego with some additional bullpen depth. The Padres lost closer
Mark Melancon to free agency but return
Craig Stammen,
Pierce Johnson,
Austin Adams, and
Emilio Pagan as late-inning options from last season. They also signed former St. Louis Cardinals reliever
Luis Garcia to a two-year deal earlier in the winter.
