Fri Feb 22 2013 | 22:31 | Anthony Slama impressing in Twins camp |
Anthony Slama has been very impressive early in spring training, and looks like a legitimate candidate to win a spot in the Twins bullpen. |
The 29-year-old posted a spectacular 1.24 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 56/18 K/BB ratio over 36 1/3 innings at Triple-A Rochester in 2012. A broken fibula sidelined him for eight weeks last season, but he's now fully healthy and ready to break camp with the team. He's unlikely to have any value in fantasy leagues. |

Slama will not need surgery at this time and instead will report to Fort Myers, FL to begin strengthening/flexibility exercises. His season seems likely to be over, though at least he won't have to go under the knife. Slama has a 2.92 ERA and 42/16 K/BB ratio over 37 innings with Triple-A Rochester this season. |

Anthony Slama has been sent to Minnesota to have his right elbow examined. |
Slama hasn't pitched since July 1 due to elbow issues. He'd given no indication by his performance that he might be hurt, as he posted a 1.54 ERA while striking out 17 over his last 11 2/3 innings for Triple-A Rochester, but obviously the Twins are concerned. We'll update his status when more is known. |

Thu Mar 10 2011 | 09:23 | MRI on Slama (elbow) comes back negative |
An MRI on Anthony Slama's right elbow came back negative. |
While that's good news, the 26-year-old right-hander was found to have a stress reaction in one of the bones in his elbow. Doctors told him that the condition occurred because Slama's elbow hyperextends by 15 degrees more than most pitchers, creating bone-on-bone contact. He has been cleared to ease his way back on the mound, but it's not clear how much longer he'll be sidelined. |

Slama had been up for nearly a week in his latest stint with the Twins but didn't appear in a game. He holds a 7.71 ERA on the year in five appearances for the Twinkies, and although he has the ability to succeed in the late innings at some point, he can be ignored for fantasy purposes for now. |

Slama posted a 9.64 ERA over five relief outings for the Twins earlier this season and is unlikely to find major league success this time around. |
Sun Aug 8 2010 | 12:07 | Slama sent back to Triple-A |
Twins optioned RHP Anthony Slama to Triple-A Rochester. |
Slama struggled in his first go-round with the big club, posting a 9.64 ERA over five outings. He's a pretty heralded relief prospect and potential closer down the line, though, so don't judge him too much from this small sample size. |
Wed Jul 21 2010 | 16:46 | Twins' Slama strong in major league debut |
Making his major league debut, Anthony Slama struck out two in a scoreless inning Thursday against the Indians. |
No wonder the Twins have been terrified all these years to give Slama a chance. After coming in to start the ninth with a 6-0 lead, he allowed a leadoff single to Matt LaPorta. However, he bounced right back to get two strikeouts and then a game-ending groundout. |

Twins purchased the contract of RHP Anthony Slama from Triple-A Rochester. |
It's rather surprising that Slama hasn't been given a shot to this point. He's always posted quality numbers in the minors and the same can be said for his 2010 season. Through 52 2/3 innings of relief at Triple-A Rochester, the setup man has a 1.71 ERA, a 1.03 WHIP and a 64/24 K/BB ratio. |
