Mon May 27 2013 | 00:38 | Shoppach has no multi-hit games since April |
Kelly Shoppach doesn't have a multi-hit game since April 26. |
In that 11-game stretch, he's posted a slash line that would make even Jesus Montero weep: .135/.238/.270. Shoppach has struck out at least once in every game he's started this season except two. The Baylor product should see more playing time (along with Jesus Sucre) due to Montero's exile, but both are merely AL-only fodder. SAFECO promises to sap some of Shoppach's power, the only above-average offensive trait he once possessed. |

Shoppach's second homer came a month after his first. He was picking up extra playing time because of Jesus Montero's struggles last month, but tonight's start was just his third in May. Shoppach is probably a better all-around player than Montero right now, but the Mariners know they need to get Montero going if they're going to have much hope of putting a solid offense on the field this year. |
