Wed Apr 8 201518:22Sanchez will catch and bat eighth Wednesday against Diamondbacks
Sanchez will catch and bat eighth Wednesday against the Diamondbacks, Amy Gutierrez of CSN Bay Area reports.
With Brandon Belt nursing a groin injury, Buster Posey will move out to first base, affording Sanchez his first opportunity to start this season. Sanchez, who has never faced Arizona starter Jeremy Hellickson, came off the bench on Opening Day and went 1-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a strikeout.

Sanchez entered the game as a defensive replacement and went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Diamondbacks.
Brandon Belt had to leave Tuesday's game with a groin injury, and Joaquin Arias initially replaced him at first base. However, manager Bruce Bochy ended up moving Buster Posey to first and Sanchez behind the plate to start the sixth inning. This situation makes more sense from an offensive standpoint, as Arias doesn't offer much at the plate (.254/.281/.301 in 2014). If Brandon Belt (groin) is forced to go on the DL, Sanchez would probably be the main beneficiary of the extra playing time.
Sun Mar 29 201513:43Sanchez will serve as backup catcher to begin 2015 season
Sanchez will serve as the backup catcher to begin the 2015 season, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Sanchez beat out Andrew Susac for the job of Buster Posey's backup, as Susac was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday. Sanchez should see more reps than most backup catchers due to Posey's ability to play first base, but considering that he hit below the .200-mark in 2014, there isn't much fantasy value to find here outside of deeper and NL-only formats.

Sanchez went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in Saturday's spring training loss to the Angels.
Sanchez came into spring training in a battle for the backup catcher spot with Andrew Susac. Saturday's performance has pushed Sanchez closer to winning that job while Susac has been sidelined with a wrist injury. Sanchez has to be the clear favorite at this point, but neither player will have much value unless something were to happen to Buster Posey.
Tue Mar 10 201513:51Sanchez (thumb) will catch Tuesday against Padres
Sanchez (thumb) will catch Tuesday against the Padres, Henry Shulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Sanchez missed a couple of days with a sprained thumb, but he's apparently over the issue and should be considered healthy going forward. He'll continue to battle Andrew Susac for the backup catcher's spot.

Sanchez is expected to miss two-to-four days because of a sprained thumb, CSN's Andrew Baggarly reports.
Assuming Sanchez makes it back into Cactus League games by the end of this upcoming week, the minor injury shouldn't have any impact on his battle with Andrew Susac for the backup catcher's job.
Wed Feb 18 201511:37Sanchez feels "amazing" and has received full clearance to catch
Sanchez feels "amazing" and has received full clearance to catch, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.
Sanchez suffered his first concussion in mid-July last season and missed the remainder after suffering a second concussion in a subsequent rehab stint. He reportedly is feeling good at the start of spring training and has lost a lot of weight, but should be good to go for the beginning of the 2015 season barring a setback.
Fri Dec 5 201414:51Sanchez signed one-year
Sanchez signed a one-year, $800,000 contract with the Giants on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, MLB.com reports.
The 25-year-old struggled in a limited role behind Buster Posey last season, posting a .196/.237/.301 batting line in 66 games before concussion symptoms forced him to miss nearly the entire second half. His absence opened the door for Andrew Susac, who performed well in his stead, and Sanchez will likely have to fight to reclaim the backup job in spring training.
Sat Sep 13 201418:06Sanchez (concussion) symptom-free for week
Sanchez (concussion) has been symptom-free for a week, Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
It's certainly encouraging news, but the 24-year-old will visit a specialist soon to be sure he's OK. Sanchez is hoping to DH and play some first base in winter ball, and while the Giants haven't indicated as much, it could be a sign they are thinking about a full-time move out from behind the plate.
Sun Aug 31 201420:50Sanchez (concussion) transferred to 60-day DL
Sanchez (concussion) has been transferred to the 60-day DL, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
As expected, Sanchez will continue to miss time as he deals with concussion symptoms. He's been advised to rest for a couple of weeks and it seems very unlikely that he returns this season. With roster set to expand Monday, the Giants will call up veteran Guillermo Quiroz from Triple-A Fresno.
Wed Aug 27 201419:07Sanchez (concussion) likely done for season
Sanchez (concussion) is likely done for the season, the Mercury News' Alex Pavlovic reports.
He has been told by doctors to rest for the next three weeks, as he still has headaches and was vomiting two days ago. While Sanchez wouldn't say he was officially done for the season, it doesn't seem realistic at this point to count on the backup catcher returning before October, if at all in 2014.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Thursday that he's hoping Sanchez (concussion) can return in September, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The skipper recently acknowledged that Sanchez's season may very well be over, but he is holding out hope that the 24-year-old can contribute in some capacity over the final couple weeks. Sanchez has been extremely unlucky of late, as he took a foul ball off his mask in one of his first rehab games and suffered another concussion shortly after he was cleared to resume his assignment.
Tue Aug 19 201419:01Sanchez diagnosed with second concussion
Sanchez has been diagnosed with a second concussion, and manager Bruce Bochy said there's a chance his season is over, Alex Pavlovic of the Mercury News reports.
He suffered the concussion while rehabbing a recently sustained concussion, so it would certainly make sense for the Giants to shut him down for the season. Andrew Susac will continue to backup Buster Posey at the big-league level.
Tue Aug 12 201420:24Sanchez (concussion) cleared to resume rehab assignment
Sanchez (concussion) has been cleared to resume his rehab assignment, Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com reports.
While catching in a rehab game with Triple-A Fresno last Friday, Sanchez took a foul ball off his mask, leading to a recurrence of his symptoms. Fortunately, the 24-year-old checked out OK in his latest round of concussion tests and is expected to step back in behind the plate for Fresno on Wednesday. He will serve as the DH with the affiliate Tuesday.
Mon Aug 11 201422:57Sanchez (concussion) back on 7-day concussion DL
Sanchez (concussion) is back on the 7-day concussion DL, Alex Pavolvic of the Bay Area News Group reports.
Sanchez took a foul tip off the mask during a rehab game Friday, and it appears he may have suffered another concussion. He'll miss another week at the minimum, but will have to pass standard concussion protocol before being cleared to return to action. Considering the short length of time between concussions, a longer absence is definitely a possibility. Buster Posey and Andrew Susac should continue to split catching duties in San Francisco for the foreseeable future.

Sanchez (concussion) had to be taken out of his rehab game at Triple-A Fresno on Friday because he took a foul ball off the mask and may have suffered yet another concussion, Alex Pavlovic of the Mercury News reports.
Sanchez was placed on the 7-day concussion DL on July 26 and was trying to work his way back to the Giants' lineup. The outcome of Friday's rehab stint is exactly what he didn't need and is consequentially awaiting results of his second concussion test in the past two weeks.

Sanchez (concussion) will join Triple-A Fresno for a rehab assignment Monday, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Sanchez won't be back Tuesday, the earliest he could return, as the team already announced Andrew Susac will catch for Tim Lincecum. If all goes well in his rehab assignment, however, Sanchez should return to the roster at some point this week.
Mon Jul 28 201419:55Hector Sanchez fails concussion test
Hector Sanchez (concussion) failed a concussion test Monday.
He'll have to wait 3-4 days before he can take another one. Sanchez was placed on the disabled list Saturday after having to leave Friday's game following a foul top to the mask.

Sat Jul 26 201402:01Hector Sanchez suffers concussion
Hector Sanchez was diagnosed with a mild concussion after leaving Friday's game.
Sanchez was hurt when he took a foul tip off his mask. He'll probably go on the seven-day DL prior to Saturday's game, with either Guillermo Quiroz or Andrew Susac replacing him on the roster.
