Sun Aug 29 202121:45Marco Gonzales With Another Gem Sunday
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Marco Gonzales delivered another sparkling outing Sunday, going seven innings and allowing two runs on five hits and two walks to the Kansas City Royals. Both runs came on solo home runs, to Salvador Perez and Michael A. Taylor. He struck out four batters. For the month of August, Gonzales has gone 3-0 with a 1.58 ERA and 0.80 WHIP in 40 innings over six games. He now has nine consecutive starts without giving up more than three runs, and he should be locked-in fantasy starter in the coming weeks.

Tue Aug 24 202101:31Marco Gonzales Returns Quality Start
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Marco Gonzales completed another quality start Monday, going six innings and giving up three runs on five hits and no walks against the Oakland Athletics. He struck out two batters. Gonzales left the game in position for a loss, but some late-game heroics from Ty France and others left him with a no-decision. Gonzales has now delivered four quality starts in his five August outings, with a 1.36 ERA in that span. He's a very hot option right now, and he should be rostered in all fantasy formats.

Thu Aug 19 202110:26Marco Gonzales Continues Effective Stretch
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Marco Gonzales was on his game once again Wednesday night, allowing just six hits and a walk in 5 1/3 scoreless innings. He struck out three batters en route to his fifth win of the season. Gonzales has put up a 0.67 ERA and 0.74 WHIP with 21 strikeouts in 27 innings across four August starts. Over his last seven games, he has a 4-0 record. This is the Marco Gonzales that was expected at the beginning of the season, and he'd be a stabilizing force for any fantasy rotation.

Thu Aug 12 202120:14Marco Gonzales Throws Complete-Game Gem
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Marco Gonzales was at his best Thursday, throwing a complete game against the Texas Rangers. He allowed just one run on two hits and one walk with nine strikeouts on 108 pitches. Gonzales's outing just serves to highlight how good he has been lately, with three consecutive quality starts and six straight since allowing more than three earned runs in a single outing. His nine strikeouts on Thursday represent a season high, but Gonzales could be a worthwhile investment going forward.

Sat Aug 7 202104:27Marco Gonzales Shuts Out Yankees Into Seventh
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Marco Gonzales delivered his finest outing of the season Friday, limiting the New York Yankees to just three hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings. He did not give up an earned run for the first time this season. Gonzales struck out five batters. It's been tough sledding this season for the normally reliable Gonzales, but he's now had back-to-back quality starts. Fantasy managers may want to look to Gonzales as a steady option over the last several weeks of the season, especially if injuries have disrupted fantasy playoff plans.

Sun Aug 1 202121:29Marco Gonzales Throws Quality Start Against Rangers
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Marco Gonzales looked sharp Sunday against the Texas Rangers, allowing just one run on five hits and no walks in six innings. He struck out four batters. Gonzales left in position for a win, but was forced to settle for a no-decision after reliever Erik Swanson blew the save in the bottom of the ninth inning. Still, it's quite the encouraging outing for Gonzales, who has now thrown just four quality starts of the year. This is his third straight with no more than two earned runs allowed, so perhaps he's worth a look in fantasy if managers can deal with the lack of strikeouts.

Fri Jul 9 202123:49Shohei Ohtani reaches upper deck in Seattle with 33rd homer
SEATTLE (AP) — Shohei Ohtani’s league-leading 33rd home run of the season Friday night put him in rare company in the history of the Seattle Mariners' home ballpark. Ohtani’s solo shot in the third inning off Marco Gonzales soared into the top deck of right field at T-Mobile Park. The Angels' two-way phenom is the sixth player to reach the upper deck of the right field seats since the stadium opened in 1999. MLB’s Statcast projected the homer at 463 feet. Ohtani’s blast left a buzz through the ballpark and caused a couple of fans sitting alone in that section of the stadium to duck as the ball drew closer. It landed above the fifth row of seats before hitting a concrete wall and ricocheting back down into the lower levels. The Angels dugout erupted in excitement and disbelief after Ohtani's left-handed swing. Justin Upton put his hands on his head in shock when it landed in the upper deck. Ohtani is the first player since Albert Pujols to in 2006 to hit 33 or more homers in his first 82 games of a season. He's on pace for 61. The others to have reached the upper deck at T-Mobile Park are Joey Gallo (2020), Daniel Vogelbach (2019), Nomar Mazara (2019), Carlos Delgado (2001) and Mo Vaughn (1999). ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports

Wed Jun 9 202101:55Pirates' Hayes misses 1B on homer, Dodgers beat Bucs 5-3
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Ke’Bryan Hayes hastily missed first base and was called out after hitting a first-inning homer, sending Walker Buehler on his way to seven scoreless innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-3 Tuesday night. The Pirates star rookie stung an opposite-field line drive in the first inning against Buehler that narrowly cleared the right-field wall, just inside the foul pole. Running hard and with his eyes on the ball, Hayes missed touching first base with his left foot by two or three inches and kept on going. Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts challenged, and umpires overturned the call after a short video review. Buehler (5-0) retired his last 13 batters and had two hits to raise his career batting average to .124. He allowed two hits, struck out two and walked one while throwing 93 pitches. Pirates rookie JT Brubaker (4-5) shut out the Dodgers through four innings but did not make it out of the fifth, when Los Angeles scored three times. Kenley Jansen... [More]

Tue Jun 8 202123:56Eric Haase homers in 1st and helps Tigers beat Mariners 5-3
DETROIT (AP) — Detroit Tigers rookie catcher Eric Haase has seemingly come out of nowhere, hitting six home runs already this month. Matthew Boyd, though, insisted he saw it coming after pitching to Haase during the offseason. Haase extended his power surgery by hitting a hit a two-run homer in the first inning to help Detroit beat the Seattle Mariners 5-3 Tuesday night. “I think everyone around our team knew what Eric could do," Boyd said. “Once he got the opportunity, he made the most of it. He’s a great catcher and he can really hit the ball." Boyd (3-6) allowed an unearned run, six hits and a walk over six innings. Daniel Norris inherited the bases loaded with no outs in the eighth and limited Seattle to two runs. Jose Cisnero pitched the ninth, striking out two and walking one for his second save in three chances. Marco Gonzales (1-4) gave up four runs and five hits over four innings in his second start since coming back from a strained left forearm. “Marco was not quite as sharp as... [More]
