Marrero signed a minor league contract with the White Sox on Friday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.

Marrero, a former first-round pick by the Nationals (2006), had been playing independent-league ball this season. In parts of four years in Triple-A, Marrero has compiled a .276/.345/.407 batting line with 28 homers and 154 RBI (1,291 PA). The White Sox will start him off in Double-A, and it doesn't appear they view him as anything more than organizational depth.
