Sun Sep 119:52Zach Eflin Looks Strong In Return
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Zach Eflin made his return from the injured list and took the mound against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. The right-hander missed two starts due to shoulder inflammation, but showed no signs of rust on Sunday. Eflin allowed only one run while striking out nine batters over seven innings of work. He's 5-0 with an impressive 1.95 ERA since joining the O's at the trade deadline. His next start is set to be against his former team the Tampa Bay Rays next weekend. Eflin is looking like a must-start fantasy option for that game.

Sun Sep 113:38Zach Eflin Activated, Starting On Sunday
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Zach Eflin (shoulder) has been activated from the 15-day injured list ahead of Sunday's game against the Colorado Rockies. The good news is that Eflin was only forced to miss the minimum amount of time due to shoulder inflammation. Eflin was average during his 19 starts with the Tampa Bay Rays this season, but he has turned it on since being traded to the O's. He has a 2.13 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 25/2 K/BB ratio across four starts with his new team. Despite pitching in Colorado, Eflin should be a solid streaming option for Sunday's slate.

Thu Aug 2920:48Zach Eflin Could Start On Sunday
Baltimore Orioles right-hander Zach Eflin (shoulder) could come off the 15-day injured list to start on Sunday against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, according to manager Brandon Hyde. Eflin was scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Thursday in what is one of the final hurdles for him. Hitter-friendly Coors Field isn't the ideal place to make your first start off the IL, but the way that the 30-year-old had been pitching before his shoulder injury will probably persuade fantasy managers to roll the dice. In his first four starts with the O's after being acquired in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays, he gave up only six earned runs on 24 hits while walking only two and striking out 25 in 25 1/3 innings for four wins. He wasn't nearly good in his 19 starts with Tampa, going 5-7 with a 4.09 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 87 punchouts in 110 frames.

Thu Aug 2217:25Zach Eflin Says He'll Be Ready After 15 Days
Baltimore Orioles right-hander Zach Eflin (shoulder) sounds pretty confident that he'll be ready to return from the 15-day injured list when he's first eligible on Sept. 1. When asked if he'll be ready after 15 days, he said, "Absolutely. As I stand today, yeah, for sure. I'm not even remotely focusing on rehab starts." Eflin said his right shoulder already feels "10 times better" than it did earlier this week. The 30-year-old was put on the IL on Tuesday with inflammation in his right shoulder, but as things sound now, he won't need any rehab assignments before returning to the O's rotation. Eflin's fantasy managers are surely hoping he's right in his assessment of his injury and his timeline for a return. In his first four starts with Baltimore since being acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays, Eflin has a 2.13 ERA with only two walks and 25 strikeouts in 25 1/3 innings.

Tue Aug 2017:40Orioles Place Zach Eflin On 15-Day Injured List
The Baltimore Orioles placed right-hander Zach Eflin (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 17) on Tuesday with right-shoulder inflammation and recalled left-handed pitching prospect Cade Povich from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move. The team also put left-hander Keegan Akin on the paternity list and recalled right-hander Dillon Tate from Norfolk. Eflin's injury comes out of nowhere to blindside the O's and fantasy managers alike. The 30-year-old had been better since joining Baltimore in a trade from the Tampa Bay Rays, as he posted four straight quality starts with 25 strikeouts and two walks in 25 1/3 innings in his first four starts with the O's. Povich, the team's No. 5 prospect per MLB Pipeline, will now take Eflin's spot in the starting rotation. The 24-year-old southpaw has been shaky in his first nine MLB starts this year, going 1-6 with a 5.77 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, 31 K's and 23 walks.

Fri Aug 1609:34Zach Eflin Continues Dominating With Orioles
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Zach Eflin had another great start on Thursday, tossing six innings of one-run ball against the Boston Red Sox while picking up his fourth consecutive win. Eflin struck out eight while walking none and allowed just five hits in the contest. It has been a night-and-day difference for Eflin since being acquired by the Orioles at the trade deadline from the Tampa Bay Rays. With Tampa, Eflin seldom went six innings, had trouble picking up wins, and just didn't look like his 2023 self. With Baltimore, though, Eflin now has a quality start and a win in all four of his starts, and he's looked much better while doing it. The veteran righty should be rostered universally at this point and could be a big part of fantasy rotations down the stretch.

Sat Aug 1000:53Zach Eflin Turns In Strong Start In Eighth Win
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Zach Eflin turned in a strong performance in Friday night's victory over the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field, firing seven shutout innings with seven strikeouts. In his first start against his former Rays team since being traded away before the late-July deadline, Eflin picked up his eighth win of the season after scattering just four hits and one walk on Friday night against Tampa Bay. It's been a bit of a disappointing season for the 30-year-old veteran right-hander, but he does sport a rock-solid 3.83 ERA and 1.15 WHIP along with a stellar 104:15 K:BB across 129 1/3 frames ahead of a tough matchup on Thursday against the Boston Red Sox.

Sun Aug 408:55Zach Eflin Earns Second Consecutive Win For O's
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Zach Eflin posted the second straight quality start for his new team in a 7-4 victory over the Guardians on Saturday. The 30-year-old tossed six-and-a-third innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out three on his way to picking up his seventh win of the season. The righty now has a 4.05 ERA (3.70 FIP), 1.18 WHIP, and while the strikeouts aren't very high (18.9% K%), the walks are very low (2.7% BB%). He'll face a familiar opponent his next time out, his former team, the Tampa Bay Rays on the road next Friday.

Tue Jul 3009:28Zach Eflin Fans Seven In Orioles Debut
Right-hander Zach Eflin struck out seven Toronto Blue Jays over six innings as he won his debut with the Baltimore Orioles on Monday. Eflin allowed 10 hits and three earned runs in his first start since being traded from the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday for three minor-leaguers. He is now 6-7 with a 4.11 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP along with 94 strikeouts and just 13 walks in 116 innings. Fantasy managers hope Eflin can be equally effective in his next start, when he faces an explosive Cleveland Guardians lineup on Saturday.

Fri Jul 2617:02Orioles Acquire Zach Eflin From The Rays
The Baltimore Orioles are acquiring right-hander Zach Eflin from the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays on Friday, according to sources. The Rays will receive three unnamed minor-leaguers in the deal. After sending outfielder Randy Arozarena to the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night, the Rays will now send one of the best available starting pitchers on the trade market to their division rivals. The 30-year-old Eflin hasn't been as good in Tampa this year as he was in 2023, but he'll give the first-place O's a big boost in their rotation to close out the season. He's currently 5-7 with a 4.09 ERA (3.65 FIP) and 1.16 WHIP with 87 strikeouts and only 13 walks in 110 innings over 19 starts. Eflin's strikeout rate has dropped from 26.5% last year to 18.9% in 2024, his lowest mark since 2019 with the Philadelphia Phillies. Staying in the American League East won't drastically affect his fantasy value, other than having a much better offense backing him now.UPDATE: The Rays are receiving right-hander Jackson Baumeister (O's No. 17 prospect), outfielder Matthew Etzel and super-utility man ... Thu Jul 2522:01Multiple Teams Have Strong Interest In Zach Eflin
The Houston Astros, Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals are among the teams expected to have strong interest in Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Zach Eflin ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline. Eflin is signed through 2025, so there's always a chance the Rays opt to hold onto him until next season and aim to sell high when he's playing at a higher level. After leading the American League with 16 wins and finishing sixth in Cy Young Award voting in 2023, the 30-year-old veteran right-hander has stumbled to a 4.09 ERA in 19 starts in 2024, but his 1.16 WHIP and 87:13 K:BB over 110 innings are perhaps more indicative of the quality of his pitching. Eflin gets a great chance to right the ship in Tuesday's slated start at home against the last-place Miami Marlins, but he might be wearing a different uniform altogether by then.

Wed Jul 1721:35Zach Eflin Aims For More Success Against Yankees
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Zach Eflin will kick off his second half in Friday's scheduled start in the Bronx against the division-rival New York Yankees. After leading the American League with 16 wins a year ago, Eflin has regressed during his second year in Tampa Bay while registering a 3.99 ERA (3.66 FIP) and 1.11 WHIP over 99 1/3 innings of work. Even so, the 30-year-old veteran right-hander owns a shiny 78:9 K:BB covering his 17 starts and also leads the major leagues with 0.8 walks per nine innings. While Friday's matchup is a tough one on paper, Eflin has dominated the Yankees to the tune of a 1.50 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, and 48:6 K:BB in 42 frames against them in his career, and he'll be worth deploying in all season-long fantasy leagues with some contrarian DFS appeal on a full slate.

Sat Jun 2900:41Zach Eflin Tosses Gem Friday Night
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Zach Eflin (4-5) picked up his fourth win Friday night after pitching six shutout innings with six strikeouts while allowing no walks on four hits in a 3-1 victory over the Washington Nationals. Eflin finished off a solid June with a 3.49 ERA which lowered his 2024 ERA to 3.92 on the season. The 30-year-old veteran isn't quite having the same success in his encore season with the Rays so far with a half of a run higher on his ERA and less than a strikeout per inning after having more than a strikeout per inning last season. If Eflin continues to put up solid numbers don't be surprised if he is dangled at the trade deadline with the Rays sitting at an even .500 record at 41-41 on the season. However, his contract may be tough to unload unless the Rays front office decides to eat a portion of his contract.

Mon Jun 312:29Zach Eflin Could Return Wednesday
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Zach Eflin (back) threw 46 pitches off the mound at Tropicana Field prior to the May 30 game against the Oakland Athletics and said he felt good afterward. Then Eflin threw a 40-pitch bullpen session consisting of two simulated "innings" on Sunday in Baltimore. He said he felt "great" and declared himself "ready to go." The Rays haven't decided when he'll rejoin the rotation, but he could start as soon as Wednesday in Miami against the Marlins. The 30-year-old was put on the injured list on May 20 after feeling discomfort in his back during his final inning on May 18 against the Toronto Blue Jays. He compared this injury to lower-back tightness that forced him to miss two weeks in April of last year and said he was "not too worried about it, honestly." Eflin will be a bit more risky in his first start back, but fantasy managers can't pass up a matchup against Miami.

Thu May 3013:21Zach Eflin Could Return To Rotation Next Week
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Zach Eflin (back) was throwing off the mound on Thursday and has a "ramped-up bullpen session" likely scheduled for Sunday in Baltimore, according to manager Kevin Cash. If Eflin comes out of Sunday's session without any setbacks, he could make his return from the injured list to rejoin the starting rotation next week. The 30-year-old veteran is getting close to a return from a lower-back injury that has kept him out the last few weeks on the 15-day injured list. After winning a league-high 16 games for the Rays in his first season with the team in 2023, Eflin had gone 3-4 with a 4.12 ERA (3.65 FIP) and 1.17 WHIP with 44 strikeouts and only four walks in 59 innings over 10 starts before getting hurt. He should be stashed in most fantasy leagues.

Tue May 2821:18Zach Eflin Set To Throw Bullpen Session Thursday
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Zach Eflin (back) played catch again ahead of Tuesday's contest against the visiting Oakland Athletics. The plan is for Eflin to throw a bullpen session on Thursday, which would mark his first activity from the mound since the Rays placed the hurler on the injured list on May 20 due to inflammation in his lower back. It's not yet known if Eflin will require a brief minor-league rehab assignment before rejoining Tampa Bay's rotation, but he's on course to return sometime in early-to-mid June if all continues to go smoothly in his throwing progression. While the big 30-year-old right-hander owns a disappointing 4.12 ERA over 59 innings in 2024 following a career season in 2023, his 44:4 K:BB across 10 starts means Eflin needs to be stashed in fantasy leagues of all shapes and sizes.

Mon May 2707:11Zach Eflin Begins To Play Catch
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Zach Eflin (back) was seen playing catch on May 26, per MLB.com. Eflin was placed on the injured list on May 20 due to experiencing discomfort on his start on May 18 in Toronto. The 30-year-old compared this injury to similar lower back tightness he dealt with last April that forced him to miss two weeks. Manager Kevin Cash said he expects his ace to return to the mound in "two to four weeks." While it is an excellent sign to see Eflin playing catch and not experiencing any setbacks, he might need to speed up his recovery to meet the projected return date slightly. Eflin looked quite strong in his Tampa Bay debut last summer with a 3.50 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and 186:24 K:BB ratio. However, he did get off to a slow start this spring with a 4.12 ERA, and 1.17 WHIP. Nonetheless, he should remain stashed in all formats as he should return to his 2023 form after he recovers from this minor setback.

Mon May 2019:23Zach Eflin Could Be Out 2-4 Weeks
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Zach Eflin (back) said his back issue popped up near the end of his last start and feels similar to last year, when he missed around two weeks with a similar back injury. Manager Kevin Cash said it was an unfortunate injury but also considers it similar to last year, although the skipper did say he thought it could be two to four weeks this year. The Rays put the 30-year-old on the 15-day injured list on Monday with a lower-back injury. Eflin had back issues toward the end of last year as well, so it's definitely something to be concerned about for fantasy managers that have him rostered. The former 33rd overall pick by the San Diego Padres in 2012 won 16 games in his first year in Tampa in 2023 and had a career-best 3.50 ERA. Eflin deserves to be stashed in fantasy formats after starting 2024 with a 3-4 record, 4.12 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, four walks and 44 K's in 59 innings.

Mon May 2014:42Rays Place Zach Eflin On 15-Day Injured List
The Tampa Bay Rays placed Zach Eflin (back) on the 15-day injured list before the team's three-game set against the Boston Red Sox. Eflin likely injured his back in his most recent outing on May 18 against the Toronto Blue Jays, where he gave up four runs on nine hits with three strikeouts across six innings. The right-hander has struggled in the early part of the season, giving up at least three earned runs in four of his last five outings. He will now head to the IL with a 4.12 ERA and 44 strikeouts across 10 starts.

Tue May 1402:33Zach Eflin Coughs Up Three Runs, Secures Win Monday
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Zach Eflin was awarded a win in Monday's 5-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox after allowing three runs in five innings of work with two strikeouts and no walks. Eflin left the game with a one-run lead, and luckily for fantasy managers, the Tampa Bay bullpen finished the contest with four shutout innings. It was Eflin's second game in a row that he hasn't been able to whiff more than three batters, but it's the third game in a row in which he didn't allow a walk. Taking the good with the bad, Eflin will carry his 3.91 ERA into his next matchup against a Toronto Blue Jays offense that roughed up Eflin for six runs, including three home runs, on Opening Day.
