Thu Sep 515:02Randy Arozarena, J.P. Crawford Sitting On Thursday
Seattle Mariners outfielder Randy Arozarena and shortstop J.P. Crawford are both taking the day off on Thursday in the series finale against the division-rival Oakland Athletics at the Oakland Coliseum. Victor Robles will start in left field and bat leadoff, while Leo Rivas will make the start at the 6 and bat ninth against A's right-hander Joey Estes. This will be just Arozarena's second day off with Seattle since they acquired him at the end of July from the Rays. He's been a bit better in Seattle than he was in Tampa earlier this year, batting .238 (29-for-122) with three homers and 12 RBI in his 34 games played. Crawford, meanwhile, has a hit in each of his last two games but has gone 2-for-24 with five strikeouts in seven games since returning from an IL stint on Aug. 28. Robles has been a new hitter since joining the M's and will be a nice sleeper target in DFS in the leadoff spot on Thursday.

Wed Aug 2815:14J.P. Crawford Reinstated And Starting On Wednesday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (finger) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list on Wednesday and is back at shortstop and batting leadoff against the Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Drew Rasmussen at T-Mobile Park. In a corresponding move, the M's optioned outfielder Dominic Canzone to Triple-A Tacoma. Crawford will return to Seattle for the first time since suffering a hairline fracture of his right pinkie finger when being hit by a pitch in late July. The 29-year-old will return to everyday duties at the 6, sending Leo Rivas back to a bench role. It's good news for the Mariners as they look to close the gap on the Houston Astros atop the American League West division, but fantasy managers probably aren't all that interested in Crawford if he's available on the waiver wire after he's hit just .204/.299/.347 on the season with nine homers, 32 RBI and five steals in 294 at-bats.

Tue Aug 2723:24J.P. Crawford Should Be Back By This Weekend
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (finger) was back at T-Mobile Park during an off day across the minors on Monday and took part in a simulated game and on-field batting practice. It's possible he'll need another simulated game and/or another rehab game, although High-A Everett and Triple-A Tacoma are both on the road this week. If all goes well, Crawford could return before the M's wrap up their homestand on Wednesday, but all signs point to him returning by this weekend in Anaheim at the latest. He went 1-for-6 over the weekend with Tacoma, playing five innings in the field on Saturday and seven innings on Sunday. The 29-year-old has been out since July 22 due to a right-pinkie fracture. It's his second stay on the IL this year, and he's also hit a disappointing .204 (60-for-294) in 2024 with nine homers, 32 RBI and five steals for fantasy managers.

Sun Aug 2512:20J.P. Crawford Goes Hitless In First Rehab Game
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (finger) started his minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday and went 0-for-3. Crawford started at shortstop and was replaced after playing five innings. Although the 29-year-old didn't play the full game, it's still encouraging that he was able to play on defense in his first game. Barring a setback after a few more contests in the minors, he could rejoin Seattle's lineup at some point next week. Crawford is unlikely to suddenly boost Seattle's floundering offense when he returns from the injured list, as he was hitting a disappointing .204 (60-for-294) with nine home runs, 32 RBI and five stolen bases in 77 games this year before getting hurt. Leo Rivas has been serving as the team's starting shortstop in Crawford's absence.

Sat Aug 2421:18J.P. Crawford Begins Rehab Assignment Saturday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford, who has been sidelined with a fractured pinky finger, began a rehab assignment on Saturday night. The veteran is hitting second and playing shortstop in Triple-A Tacoma. Crawford is hitting .204 with nine home runs, 32 RBI, five stolen bases, and 42 runs in 335 plate appearances at the major league level. Crawford has struggled this year and may face some competition from Leo Rivas, who is hitting .286 with seven RBI and two stolen bases while spelling the veteran Crawford, who could return as early as this week from the injured list.

Sat Aug 2412:52J.P. Crawford Takes Batting Practice
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (finger) took part in batting practice on the field before the team's series opener on Friday against the San Francisco Giants at T-Mobile Park and said that he could begin a minor-league rehab assignment as soon as Sunday or Monday. Crawford was hit on the back of his right hand on July 22, with an initial timeline projected for four to six weeks. It's the second stint on the injured list for Crawford this year after he missed around a month with an oblique strain in late April and May. When he has been on the field, the 29-year-old hasn't done much, hitting .204/.299/.347 with nine home runs, 32 RBI and five steals in 294 at-bats. Crawford could rejoin the M's as soon as late next week if he doesn't have a setback with his finger on his rehab assignment, but his return to the lineup isn't likely to suddenly fix the team's year-long offensive struggles.

Mon Aug 1921:19J.P. Crawford Hopes To Begin Swinging This Week
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (finger) is hoping to start swinging a bat this week as he tries to work his way back from the injured list. Crawford threw for the first time before last weekend's homestand finale against the visiting New York Mets on Aug. 11 after going down with a fractured right pinkie finger in late July. For now, fantasy managers can expect the veteran on-base machine to return to the M's sometime either before the end of August or in early September, depending on if he needs a minor-league rehab assignment or not. In the meantime, center fielder Victor Robles should continue functioning as Seattle's everyday leadoff hitter and experiencing an uptick in fantasy value.

Mon Aug 1219:40J.P. Crawford Has Resumed Throwing
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (finger), who has been taking infield practice since Aug. 2, threw for the first time before the team's series finale on Sunday against the visiting New York Mets, lightly tossing out to 60 feet. "Today's Day 1 for J.P. throwing," manager Scott Servais said on Sunday. "He still feels it, but we want to get his arm moving." The team's most optimistic projections have Crawford potentially starting a return progression no Aug. 19. He was hit on the back of his right hand by a changeup on July 22 and suffered a right-pinkie fracture. The timeline on Crawford at the time of his injury was four to six weeks. It's the second stint on the injured list this year for Crawford, who missed around a month with an oblique strain in late April and May. In between the injuries, the 29-year-old has been a big disappointment with a .204/.299/.347 slash line, nine homers and five steals.

Sat Aug 312:37J.P. Crawford Takes Infield Practice On Friday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (hand) took infield practice with his one capable hand prior to Friday's game and was seen wearing a protective cast in his other hand. The 29-year-old is also slated for an X-ray on Monday. Crawford hit the injured list on July 23 with a right-hand fracture and was expected to miss approximately four to six weeks of playing time. This is a good sign that the shortstop was able to begin to go through infield practice without any setbacks. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to the results of his X-ray on Monday as it could determine how close he could be to returning. Prior to the injury, he held a .204/.299/.347 line with nine home runs and five stolen bases. Dylan Moore should continue to see the majority of starting opportunities at shortstop while Crawford remains sidelined.

Wed Jul 2416:52J.P. Crawford Expected To Miss 4-6 Weeks
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (finger) is expected to be out for four to six weeks after being placed on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. Crawford fractured his right pinkie finger when he was hit by a pitch in Monday's series opener against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels. The good news is that the 29-year-old won't need surgery, but he can probably be dropped in mixed leagues at this point. Crawford will wear a protective brace on his hand for the next couple of weeks to allow his finger to heal properly. With Crawford sidelined, Dylan Moore has become the M's starter at the 6. In his eighth major-league season (sixth with the Mariners), Crawford has contributed very little offensively, slashing .204/.299/.347 with a career-low .645 OPS, nine home runs, 32 RBI and five stolen bases in 335 trips to the plate over 77 games.

Tue Jul 2318:30J.P. Crawford Headed To Injured List
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (hand) has been placed on the 10-day injured list prior to Tuesday's game. The bad news continues to pile up for Seattle as outfielder Julio Rodriguez (ankle) joined Crawford on the injured list. The Mariners made a few moves with them losing two of their starting players. They've called up infielders Tyler Locklear and Leo Rivas to help give them some depth at shortstop. The assumption is that Dylan Moore will see a majority of the playing time, but Locklear and Rivas should get a few looks as well. There isn't a viable fantasy pickup here in the absence of Crawford.

Tue Jul 2301:04J.P. Crawford Fractures His Pinkie On Monday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (pinkie) suffered a hairline fracture in his pinkie finger on Monday after being hit by a pitch in the first inning against the visiting Los Angeles Angels. Crawford stayed in to run the bases and scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first frame, but he was replaced by Dylan Moore in the top of the second inning and is now likely headed for a stint on the injured list. Moore will most likely become the team's everyday shortstop while Crawford heals up. Crawford has been a pretty big disappointment for the M's and fantasy managers in 2024 after setting career-highs in homers (19) and RBI (65) a year ago. He's currently slashing .204/.296/.347 with nine long balls, 32 RBI and five steals in 77 games this season.

Fri Jul 1208:07J.P. Crawford Collects Three Hits In Victory
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford enjoyed a successful night at the plate in an 11-0 victory versus the division rival Los Angeles Angels on Thursday. Leading off, Crawford went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI and a double and two-run home run. Crawford had one of his best professional seasons in 2023, but that hasn't carried over into 2024 thus far. For the season, Crawford is hitting a weak .212 with eight homers, 31 RBI and five stolen bases in 269 at-bats. Even though he hits atop the Mariners lineup, Crawford doesn't offer much value outside the deepest mixed leagues.

Sat Jun 823:21J.P. Crawford Homers In Mariners Loss To Royals
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford went 2-for-4 and hit his fifth homer in Saturday's 8-4 loss at the Kansas City Royals. Crawford opened the game with a blast off Alec Marsh and added an RBI single in the fifth. He enters Sunday hitting .220/.306/.377 with 17 RBI and 24 runs scored. Crawford has homered thrice since coming off the injured list on May 20 after missing time with an oblique injury. The occasional power makes him an interesting waiver-wire option for fantasy managers in deeper leagues needing middle infield help. Beyond that, there is little appeal for Crawford, who mainly helps out in homers and runs scored.

Mon May 2017:42J.P. Crawford Likely To Return Tuesday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (oblique) went through a pre-game warmup at Yankee Stadium on Monday and told the team he was ready to go. However, he's not in the starting lineup against the New York Yankees, and the Mariners are likely waiting to reinstate him from the injured list and return him to the starting lineup for the second game of the series on Tuesday. Dylan Moore is going to get one more game to serve as Seattle's starting shortstop. He's at the 6 and is batting sixth against Yankees right-hander Marcus Stroman. Crawford has been out since the end of April with a Grade 1 right-oblique strain but is on the cusp of a return. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues will be hoping Crawford can turn things around offensively when he's back, as he'll be returning to a .198/.296/.302 slash line with two homers and nine RBI.UPDATE: Crawford was activated from the injured list on Monday but wasn't included in the starting lineup.

Sun May 1914:57J.P. Crawford Could Return As Early As Monday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (oblique) is expected to re-join the major league roster sometime in the team's four-game set against the New York Yankees that begins on Monday. Crawford has been on the injured list since April 25 with a Grade 1 oblique strain. The 29-year-old faced a minor setback in a rehab game after being hit by a pitch. Thankfully, this has not seemed to delay his recovery much at all, as he could be in the starting lineup as soon as Monday. Crawford posted a mere .190/.296/302 line through the first 22 games of the season but tallied a career-high 19 home runs last season with a solid .266/.380/.438 slash line. Crawford should be expected to serve as the everyday shortstop in Seattle and typically bat in the leadoff spot.

Fri May 1717:20J.P. Crawford Not With The Team Friday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (hand, oblique) has a locker room in Baltimore for the team's series this weekend against the Orioles, but he did not make the trip with the club on Thursday as originally planned. Crawford was still experiencing swelling and soreness in his right hand after getting hit by a pitch in his final minor-league rehab game on Wednesday. It appears as though the Mariners plan on the 29-year-old coming off the injured list to play this weekend, but it won't happen on Friday for the series opener at Camden Yards. Dylan Moore is making another start at the 6 and will hit leadoff against Orioles left-hander John Means. When Crawford does return, he'll return to his starting duties at shortstop while moving Moore back to a utility role. Crawford has started the year hitting under .200 with just two homers and nine RBI in 86 at-bats.

Thu May 1621:30Mariners Unsure When J.P. Crawford Will Return
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (oblique, hand) is not traveling with the team ahead of Friday's series opener against the Baltimore Orioles. Crawford's hand is still sore and a little swollen after getting hit by a pitch during Wednesday's minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma, and the M's aren't certain when he'll rejoin the club. Working his way back from a strained right oblique as well, the 29-year-old infielder will likely need a few days to allow the swelling in his hand to go down before getting back into game action. It may be enough to keep Crawford from being reinstated from the injured list this weekend. Fantasy managers should have a few more days of streaming value out of utility man Josh Rojas, who's taken over as Seattle's primary leadoff man while slashing a potent .330/.395/.482 with three home runs, nine RBI, 12 runs scored, and four stolen bases in 126 plate appearances (35 games) this year.

Thu May 1600:04J.P. Crawford Exits Rehab Game After Being Hit By Pitch
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (oblique, hand) exited Wednesday's minor-league rehab game at Triple-A Tacoma after getting hit in the hand by a pitch. Making his first appearance on his rehab assignment on Wednesday, Crawford was hit in the right hand and immediately needed to come out of the contest in the fifth inning. The M's expected Crawford to be ready to rejoin the major-league roster by the time Friday's series opener against the Baltimore Orioles rolled around, but the 29-year-old's return from a strained right oblique may be delayed depending on the severity of this setback with his hand. Look for Seattle to provide for clarity on Crawford's status sometime following the game, and the infielder should be considered day-to-day until more is known.UPDATE: It sounds like the Mariners have a low concern with Crawford's injury, but it's unclear how it might affect his potential activation this weekend.

Wed May 1516:08J.P. Crawford Could Return This Weekend
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (oblique) will play in one more minor-league rehab game for Triple-A Tacoma and then will presumably join the Mariners for their weekend series against the Baltimore Orioles, which begins on Friday, according to manager Scott Servais. Crawford was put on the 10-day injured list on April 25 with a Grade 1 right-oblique strain, but he's nearing his return. The 29-year-old went 1-for-4 in his first rehab game for Tacoma on Tuesday while playing seven innings at shortstop. Dylan Moore has been seeing starts at the 6 with Crawford sidelined, but he'll shift back to a utility role for the M's once Crawford is activated from the IL. When activated, Crawford's fantasy managers in deeper leagues will hope he can turn things around after starting the year 17-for-86 (.198) with two homers and nine RBI in 22 games.
