Thu Sep 1912:49Bo Bichette Done For The Year With Fractured Finger
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (finger) suffered a fractured right middle finger and has been placed on the 10-day injured list, ending his season. It officially ends what has been one of the most disappointing seasons for any player in baseball in 2024. Bichette ended up playing in just 81 games and slashing .225/.277/.322 with a career-worst .598 OPS, four home runs, 31 RBI and five stolen bases in 336 trips to the plate. The 26-year-old managed to play in just one game, going 2-for-5 with an RBI on Sept. 17, since returning from a lengthy stint on the IL due to a calf injury that had been bothering him since the first half of the season. Bichette will now focus on getting his finger healthy this offseason, but he should be fully recovered in time for spring training as he attempts to have a bounce-back season in 2025. Ernie Clement and Leo Jimenez should share time at the 6 in Toronto the rest of the way.

Thu Sep 1910:12Bo Bichette Day-To-Day With Finger Contusion
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette was scratched from Wednesday's lineup after taking a ground ball off his middle finger in pregame warmups. The 26-year-old will have x-rays with the results expected Thursday. For now, he's considered day-to-day. The 2x All-Star had just returned from the IL, playing in just one game before this new injury. Bichette was having an uncharacteristically poor season as it was, slashing just .225/.277/.322 with four home runs in 81 games, compared to a career .290/.332/.466 slashline while averaging 24 home runs from 2021-23. Look for an update on his status sometime Thursday prior to the Jays' afternoon matchup with the Rangers.

Tue Sep 1717:30Bo Bichette Reinstated And Starting On Tuesday
The Toronto Blue Jays reinstated shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and also placed outfielder Daulton Varsho (shoulder) on the 10-day IL with a right-shoulder strain. The club also placed infielder Will Wagner (knee) on the 60-day IL, recalled outfielder Steward Berroa from Triple-A Buffalo and claimed right-hander Nick Robertson off waivers from the Angels and optioned him to Buffalo. Bichette is starting at short and batting second on Tuesday against Texas Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi. Bichette has been out since just after the All-Star break with a calf injury that has bothered him for most of the year. It could also help explain why he's having the worst year of his career with a .222/.275/.320 slash line with a .595 OPS in 80 games. The two-time All-Star is now just hoping to finish off the year on a strong note.

Wed Sep 1116:10Bo Bichette Will Play In Another Rehab Game On Thursday
Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that reports on shortstop Bo Bichette's (calf) first minor-league game with Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday night were that "he felt good." Bichette went 1-for-3 and played four defensive innings at the 6. He was on his feet more than planned, though, so he will not play on Wednesday but will "get back after it tomorrow," Schneider said. After the 26-year-old plays in around four or five games on the farm and if he can avoid any setbacks with a calf injury that has landed him on the injured, he should be able to return to the Blue Jays for the final several weeks of the season. Bichette, a two-time All-Star, has been one of the biggest fantasy busts in 2024 and will return to a .222/.275/.320 slash line with only four homers, 30 RBI and five steals on the year. Fantasy managers that have been holding him all this time are holding out hope he can finish strong.

Fri Sep 620:14Bo Bichette To Start Rehab Assignment On Tuesday
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) ran the bases again on Friday and will remain with the team through the weekend during their series in Atlanta against the Braves, according to manager John Schneider. The plan for Bichette is for him to join Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday to begin a minor-league rehab assignment that should last four or five games. The 26-year-old has been out since right around the All-Star break due to a strained right calf that has been an issue for him this year. Bichette is on track to return to the big-league roster before the end of September, but at this point, it's been a complete bust of a season for the two-time All-Star. Even before his calf injury cropped up, Bichette was underperforming big time at the plate and currently carries a .222/.275/.320 slash line with a career-worst .595 OPS, only four homers, 30 RBI and five steals in 80 games.

Tue Aug 2721:22Bo Bichette To Run The Bases In A Few Days
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf), who had been rehabbing at the club's Player Development Complex in Dunedin, Florida, was reunited with his team in Boston ahead of Tuesday's game against the Red Sox. Bichette is continuing to ramp up from a second right calf strain this season that he suffered on July 19, throwing from distance and taking direct grounders prior to the contest against Boston. Manager John Schneider said that Bichette will remain with the Blue Jays through the end of their road trip between Boston and Minneapolis, and that his next step will be running the bases, which Toronto expects to happen in the next few days. The 26-year-old star infielder is going to need a minor-league rehab assignment before returning to the major leagues for the stretch run, but fantasy managers can expect to have Bichette back potentially in early-to-mid September.

Thu Aug 2218:08Bo Bichette Resumes Running
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) has started running at the team's spring training complex in Dunedin, Fla., according to manager John Schneider. Bichette will join the Blue Jays at Fenway Park and stick with them through their road trip as he works his way towards a minor-league rehab assignment. Running full speed and running the bases will likely be the last couple boxes Bichette needs to check before getting the green light for a rehab assignment. The 26-year-old began hitting and fielding recently as well as he works his way back from a strained right calf that landed him on the injured list to begin the second half of the season. Bichette won't rejoin the big-league squad until early September, at which point he'll have limited time to turn around what has been one of the most disappointing seasons for a high-end fantasy name. Rookie Leo Jimenez has been seeing most of the starts at the 6 in Bichette's absence.

Mon Aug 1916:42Bo Bichette To Start Running In A Few Days
The Toronto Blue Jays expect shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) to start running in the next two to three days, according to manager John Schneider. Bichette is already doing some hitting and defensive drills at the team's spring training complex in Dunedin, Fla. Once the 26-year-old is able to run the bases successfully, he's likely to be sent out on a minor-league rehab assignment. Calf issues have slowed Bichette down this year, and he's been on the 10-day injured list since late July. He should have a good chance of returning to the Blue Jays before the end of August, though, barring a setback once he begins running or on his rehab assignment. Since his injury, Leo Jimenez has been the team's light-hitting replacement for Bichette at the 6. Bitchette himself has been one of the biggest disappointments in 2024 in all of baseball, hitting .223 (68-for-305) with only four homers, 30 RBI and five stolen bases.

Fri Aug 1617:30Bo Bichette Doing Baseball Activities
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) has started to do some baseball activities at the team's spring training complex in Dunedin, Fla., according to manager John Schneider. Bichette will likely ramp up in Florida for a while and then check back in with the Blue Jays to evaluate a minor-league rehab assignment. It's nice to see the 26-year-old making progress, but at this rate, he's unlikely to rejoin the big-league squad until September, especially with the Blue Jays having little to play for. Right-calf issues have sidelined Bichette this year, and he's also hit a very disappointing .223/.276/.321 with just four home runs, 30 RBI and five stolen bases in 305 at-bats. The former second-rounder should remain stashed everywhere, but he's running out of time to help in fantasy. Rookie Leo Jimenez should continue to serve as the primary shortstop for Toronto.

Sat Aug 1000:06Blue Jays Hope Bo Bichette Will Resume Baseball Activities Soon
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) rejoined the team in Toronto on Friday for the series opener against the visiting Oakland Athletics at the Rogers Centre after spending the previous few weeks rehabbing in Florida. The club is hopeful that Bichette will return to baseball activities within a week, and both sides would "take it week-to-week" from that point on. Before there's a concrete timeline for his return to the Jays, Bichette will need to start hitting and throwing, but fantasy managers can expect to have him back for the stretch run potentially in late August for now. It's been a down year for the 26-year-old two-time All-Star, who was really struggling at the plate before going on the injured list due to a strained right calf. In his last 27 games, Bichette is slashing .167/.232/.235 with no home runs, five RBI, and one stolen base in 112 plate appearances. Leo Jimenez is currently Toronto's primary shortstop.

Sat Aug 300:42Bo Bichette Hasn't Resumed Baseball Activities
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) remains in Florida as he rehabs his strained right calf. He is still receiving treatment for his calf and has not yet resumed baseball activities, and manager John Schneider said before Friday's game against the division-rival New York Yankees that Bichette would need approximately another week of rehab before the Blue Jays map out his return to baseball activities. Before there's any timeline for a return to Toronto's lineup, Bichette will need to start hitting and throwing. Fantasy managers can hope the 26-year-old star infielder is back sometime before the end of August, but the last-place Jays aren't going to rush him back at this stage of the season. Bichette was slashing .223/.276/.321 with four home runs, 16 doubles, 30 RBI, and five stolen bases in 305 at-bats before going on the injured list. In the interim, Leo Jimenez and Ernie Clement should continue splitting reps at short.

Sat Jul 2012:02Blue Jays Place Bo Bichette On Injured List
The Toronto Blue Jays placed shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) on the 10-day injured list on Saturday with a right-calf strain and recalled rookie outfielder Addison Barger from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move. Bichette missed the final four games of the first half of the season due to a calf injury and then strained his right calf in the second-half opener on Friday night against the Detroit Tigers. There's a good chance now that the 26-year-old will miss more than the 10 days on the injured list, and he's unlikely to be dealt before the July 30 trade deadline as well. Leo Jimenez replaced Bichette on Friday night at the 6 and will likely become the team's top option at the position moving forward. Bichette shouldn't be outrighted dropped in fantasy leagues, but he's been one of the most disappointing players in all of baseball this year, hitting just .223/.276/.321 with four homers, 30 RBI and five steals in 305 at-bats after making his second All-Star appearance in 2023.

Fri Jul 1921:12Bo Bichette Comes Up Limping, Leaves Game Early
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (leg) left Friday night's game early after coming up limping during a lineout in the bottom of the sixth inning. He was replaced by Leo Jimenez in the top of the seventh. Bichette was seen grabbing at his right leg as he ran down the first base line, a sign that it may be related to his recent right-calf strain that forced him to miss the final four games before the All-Star break. The team has not stated anything else in regards to Bichette's injury, but a clearer picture on Bichette's health should be announced by the team after they conclude their game against the Detroit Tigers on Friday night. Fantasy managers will certainly be holding their breath on the 26-year-old's status, especially since he's already been forced to miss time. Should Bichette be out for a lengthy absence, fantasy managers should expect Jimenez to continue to get starts. Jimenez has eight hits in 22 at-bats during the 2024 season for a .936 OPS.UPDATE: Bichette was removed with a right-calf strain.

Fri Jul 1916:07Bo Bichette Returns To Kick Off The Second Half
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) is back at shortstop and is hitting fifth in the batting order on Friday in the first game of the second half of the season versus the visiting Detroit Tigers and right-hander Jack Flaherty. Fantasy managers have to be happy to see Bichette back in action after he missed the final four games of the first half due to a right-calf strain. After a terrible first half, hopefully the 26-year-old will be able to turn things around in the second half, although it will be a tough first matchup in his return. Bichette does have a .400 average with a .900 OPS against Flaherty in his career, but only in five at-bats. The former second-round pick in 2016 was one of the biggest disappointments in the first half for fantasy managers, hitting just .222/.275/.321 with four homers, 30 RBI and five stolen bases in 302 at-bats.

Fri Jul 1219:46Bo Bichette Remains Out Against Diamondbacks
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) remains out of the starting lineup for a series opener against the hosting Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday. Rookie Leo Jimenez will take over at shortstop again and bat ninth for Toronto against Diamondbacks right-hander Ryne Nelson. Bichette is officially dealing with a fascia strain in his right calf that he suffered on Wednesday and will miss his second straight game. The 26-year-old went to the injured list earlier this year with an injury to the same calf, so with the All-Star break coming next week, it wouldn't be a surprise if he sat out the rest of the weekend. In addition to the calf injury, Bichette has been one of the biggest disappointments in all of baseball in 2024. Jimenez will be playing in just his sixth major-league game on Friday, although he's gone 5-for-14 (.357) with a double and RBI in his first five games.

Thu Jul 1115:03Bo Bichette Out Of The Lineup On Thursday
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) is out of the team's starting lineup for Thursday's series finale against the hosting San Francisco Giants after being pulled from Wednesday's contest early with right-calf soreness. Bichette's frustrating 2024 season continues. The Blue Jays are on the verge of being sellers at this year's trade deadline, but the fact that the 26-year-old is now hurt and has been slumping all season could mean that Toronto will hang onto him and trade him in the offseason or next summer. His calf injury doesn't appear to be very serious, but it's something to watch after he landed on the injured list back in June with a strain of the same calf muscle. With Bichette out in San Fran, Leo Jimenez will man the 6 and bat in the nine-hole for the Jays against Giants right-hander Jordan Hicks.UPDATE: Bichette has a right-calf fascia strain, according to manager John Schneider. The team is considering it day-to-day for now, but a player will likely join them for the weekend series in Arizona just in case.

Thu Jul 1100:05Bo Bichette Removed With Calf Soreness
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) was removed from Wednesday's game against the hosting San Francisco Giants with right calf soreness, and Leo Jimenez entered the contest for him in the fourth inning. Bichette dealt with an issue to the same calf in mid-June and missed 10 days on the injured list. There was no apparent moment where the injury occurred on Wednesday, however, so there should be at least some optimism that it's not a significant problem. Bichette struck out in his only plate appearance of the night, dropping his average on the season to .222 and OPS to .596 with just four home runs, 30 RBI, 29 runs scored, and five stolen bases over 302 at-bats. Fantasy managers should deem the scuffling 26-year-old infielder day-to-day until more information becomes available ahead of Thursday's clash with the Giants.

Fri Jul 519:30Bo Bichette Back In Action Against Mariners
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (forearm) is back at shortstop and is batting second on Friday against the hosting Seattle Mariners and right-hander Luis Castillo. The Mariners held Bichette out of Thursday's series finale against the Houston Astros as a precaution after he was hit by a pitch on Wednesday. The 26-year-old will return after missing just one game. Fantasy managers are hoping that the former second-rounder in 2016 out of a Florida high school can finally put together a good stretch of at-bats as we near the All-Star break in mid-July. It's been a highly disappointing 2024 campaign for the All-Star, as he enters Friday's action with a .229/.282/.331 slash line, only four home runs, 29 RBI, four steals and 28 runs scored in 284 at-bats. Bichette has also hit just .222 with an RBI in nine career at-bats versus Castillo.

Thu Jul 412:26Bo Bichette Scratched In Series Finale
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (forearm) has been scratched from Thursday's lineup against the visiting Houston Astros. Rookie Leo Jimenez will make the start at shortstop in Bichette's place and bat eighth against Astros left-hander Framber Valdez. Rookie Spencer Horwitz will draw into the lineup at second base and bat fifth. Bichette is dealing with a right-forearm contusion after being hit by a pitch in Wednesday's contest versus Houston. The 26-year-old is a little sore, but it's not a serious injury and he should be considered day-to-day. There's a good chance he'll be back in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Seattle Mariners. This will be Jimenez's first action in the big leagues since being called up earlier this week.

Mon Jul 123:30Bo Bichette A Poor Fit For The Dodgers
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette's defensive shortcomings make him a poor fit for the Los Angles Dodgers in a trade this summer. Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, going back to his days of running the Tampa Bay Rays, is a stickler for defense. Rival evaluators say the 26-year-old Bichette can get careless at shortstop, rushing at times. He's also been on the injured list with leg injuries three times in the last year, perhaps contributing to his diminished range. Bichette entered Sunday ranked 23rd among shortstops in outs above average and 28th in defensive runs saved. In addition to his poor defense, Bichette's .623 OPS was the eighth-lowest in the majors. A change of scenery could be good for him, but as of now, it's looking more likely that he'll stay in Toronto until maybe next summer.
