Atlanta Braves rookie right-hander Grant Holmes will make the start in the team's series opener on Tuesday against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. Fantasy managers will want to avoid the 28-year-old in his spot start on Tuesday after pitching out of Atlanta's bullpen for the last month. Holmes last started on Aug. 14 in a win against the Colorado Rockies, allowing two earned runs while walking one and striking out six in seven innings of work. He has not gone beyond 1 1/3 innings in September and won't go very deep in Tuesday's contest.

Holmes allowed two runs on eight hits over seven innings while striking out six and walking one to pick up the win. The rookie hurler looked good in the win, picking up 14 swinging strikes against an overmatched Giants lineup. Holmes now has a 1-0 record, 3.60 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 47 strikeouts over 45 innings of work for the Braves this season. He is worth a look as a streaming option in plus matchups moving forward.

Atlanta Braves pitcher Grant Holmes is set to make his second start on Saturday evening against the Miami Marlins. Holmes made the first start of his major league career on Monday, July 29, and performed quite well. He tossed five innings of one-run ball against the Brewers, striking out eight and allowing just three hits. Prior to this, Holmes was in a strict relief role and held a solid 2.70 ERA and 0.94 WHIP across 23 frames of work. Holmes has a favorable matchup on Saturday evening against the Miami Marlins which will make him a popular play in DFS.

The Atlanta Braves re-signed right-hander Grant Holmes to a minor-league deal on Wednesday. Holmes, a former first-round pick by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2014, has yet to make his major-league debut. He spent all of the 2023 season at Triple-A Gwinnett, where he went 7-3 with a 3.54 ERA and 1.29 WHIP while walking 26 and striking out 74 in 61 innings over 50 relief appearances. In nine minor-league seasons, he's appeared in 232 games (111 starts) and has posted a 4.58 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 694 1/3 innings pitched. Holmes will strictly operate as organizational pitching depth yet again for Atlanta in 2024.
