Wed Sep 1812:07JJ Bleday Sitting Against A Southpaw
Oakland Athletics outfielders JJ Bleday and Seth Brown and infielder Max Schuemann are all out of the starting lineup in Wednesday's series finale against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field with a left-hander on the mound. As a result, Daz Cameron will start in center field and bat cleanup, Tyler Nevin will man left field and hit eighth, and Nick Allen will start at the hot corner and hit ninth against Cubs left-hander Justin Steele, who is making his first start off the injured list. Bleday has hit a pedestrian .246 (133-for-540) in his third year in the big leagues in 2024, but he has quietly hit the 20-homer mark and driven in 56 runs in 149 games for a bad A's team. He's hit .229 (25-for-109) with six of his 20 long balls on the year against southpaws. Cameron has the most DFS upside in the four-hole, but he's hit just .201 with five homers and five steals in 159 at-bats.

Fri Aug 3000:35JJ Bleday Smacks Five Hits Thursday
Oakland Athletics outfielder JJ Bleday had a monster day at the dish on Thursday, going 5-for-5 with two doubles, a homer, three runs scored, and an RBI. Bleday has had a productive season for the Athletics, swatting 19 homers with a .789 OPS. Unfortunately, he doesn't steal bases and has had trouble getting counting stats while hitting in a mediocre Oakland lineup. If the A's can get some hitting help in the offseason, Bleday could be a decent sleeper option for fantasy next year. For this year, though, he remains a deep league option with streamer appeal in standard formats.

Thu Aug 2215:07JJ Bleday, Seth Smith On The Bench Against A Lefty
Oakland Athletics outfielders JJ Bleday and Seth Smith will retreat to the bench on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Rays at Oakland Coliseum with a left-hander starting. Daz Cameron gets the nod in center field and will hit fifth for Oakland, with Tyler Nevin starting at first base and batting seventh against Rays left-hander Jeffrey Springs. Cameron and Nevin have a combined five career at-bats against Springs. Bleday has bounced back in his second year with the A's in 2023 to the tune of a .243/.326/.449 slash line with a career-best .775 OPS, but it hasn't moved the needle all that much in mixed fantasy leagues. He has added 17 home runs, 48 RBI and 59 runs scored in 125 games played. He hasn't been that good against southpaws, though, hitting .238 (19-for-80) with six of his 17 home runs against them. Bleday has looked good in August with four homers, three doubles, 11 RBI and a steal in 17 games.

Tue Aug 2009:26JJ Bleday Hits 16th Homer
Oakland Athletics outfielder JJ Bleday hit his 16th homer in Monday's 3-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Bleday's two-run shot, a 388-foot blast off Rays pitcher Taj Bradley, came in the bottom of the first inning and was all the offense Oakland needed. He is now hitting .245/.327/.447 with 47 RBI and 58 runs scored. Bleday has been more productive in the last 30 days, hitting .298/.385/.512 with four homers, 13 RBI, and 15 runs scored. Fantasy managers should consider adding Bleday if he's available on waiver wires, and those in dynasty formats should acquire Bleday, who is positioned to be a breakout performer in 2025 and beyond.

Fri Aug 1609:40JJ Bleday Keeps Rolling In August
Oakland Athletics outfielder JJ Bleday had a monster day at the dish on Thursday, going 3-for-5 with a grand slam. Bleday also walked, scored two runs, and stole a base to add to his line. Bleday's grand slam came off southpaw Jose Quintana, making it even more impressive for the lefty. The 26-year-old has been impressive all year, but has really turned it up in August, slashing .341/.431/.545 with two homers and a steal. While he isn't must-roster, Bleday should be owned in all 15-team leagues or anything deeper at this point and isn't a bad hot-hand play in shallower leagues either.

Sun Aug 1117:04JJ Bleday Goes 3-For-4 With Homer, Walk, Three RBI
Oakland Athletics outfielder JJ Bleday had three hits, including a homer and three RBI, as the Athletics went on to beat the Toronto Blue Jays by a score of 8-4 on Sunday. Bleday has had a fairly productive season and has been extraordinarily hot of late. In his last 15 games, he is slashing .304/.385/.500 with two home runs, five RBI, and a 6:4 BB:K. Bleday is available in 41% of Yahoo fantasy leagues. If he can keep up this pace, he could be a valuable addition to fantasy teams down the stretch of 2024.

Sat Jul 2713:16Oakland Unlikely To Deal Brent Rooker, JJ Bleday At Deadline
Oakland Athletics outfielders Brent Rooker and JJ Bleday are unlikely to be dealt at the trade deadline, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Heyman reports that with the recent surge in production in both outfielders and with closer Mason Miller (finger) on the 15-day IL, the Athletics are likely to have a quiet deadline. Rooker has enjoyed an incredible July where he has posted an outstanding .389/.465/.861 line with 10 home runs, 25 RBI, four stolen bases, and an 11:14 BB:K ratio. Bleday tallied eight doubles in a 10-game span earlier in July and sits with 30 on the season. Rooker was especially a popular name in trade discussions and could have been the highest impact bat dealt next week. This recent report suggests that the Athletics see both of these outfielders as part of the future of the team.

Sat Jul 2006:51JJ Bleday Doubles, Homers Friday
Oakland A's outfielder JJ Bleday had an excellent game in his team's 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday. Bleday went 2-for-5 with a double, a homer, and two RBI in the blowout win. The 26-year-old did most of his damage with a two-run homer in the sixth inning, a blast that traveled 400 feet with an exit velocity of 105.2 MPH. Bleday has shown excellent power in 2024 as he is now hitting .232 with 26 doubles, 12 homers, 42 runs, and 34 RBI across 353 at-bats.

Mon Jul 1512:08JJ Bleday Finishes A Homer Short Of The Cycle
Oakland Athletics outfielder JJ Bleday was feeling it at the plate on Sunday in the 18-3 blowout win over the hosting Philadelphia Phillies to close out the first half of the season. Bleday finished a home run short of the cycle and ended up going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, a walk and four runs scored. It was an offensive explosion for the lowly A's, as they had eight total home runs in the outburst. Bleday's big game was nice to see, as he had gone just 1-for-23 at the plate in his previous six games. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues will be hoping his three-hit performance will carry over to the second half of the season, which starts on Friday. The former fourth overall pick of the Miami Marlins in 2019 out of Vanderbilt is playing regularly in his first year in Oakland and is hitting .230/.313/.420 with 11 homers, 32 RBI and 41 runs scored in 348 at-bats so far in 2024.

Fri Jul 1216:35JJ Bleday Sitting Out Against Phillies
Oakland Athletics outfielder JJ Bleday will start Friday's game against the hosting Philadelphia Phillies on the bench with a left-hander on the mound. With Bleday getting a breather, Daz Cameron will start in center field for the A's and will bat leadoff against tough Phillies left-hander Ranger Suarez. Bleday is hitting just .203 (12-for-59) on the year against lefties with just three of his 11 home runs on the season. The 26-year-old former fourth overall pick by the Miami Marlins in 2019 out of Vanderbilt is getting regular playing time in Oakland in his second year in the Bay Area. Aside from his 11 home runs, Bleday hasn't given fantasy managers much to work with, with 32 RBI and a .228 average (77-for-338). Cameron, even in the leadoff spot, will be avoided in most DFS lineups with his .159 average (11-for-69), three homers and six RBI.

Mon Jun 1709:54JJ Bleday Has Productive Sunday
Oakland Athletics outfielder JJ Bleday was doing all he could during Sunday's doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins. The third-year outfielder went 6-for-9 with a home run and one RBI between the two games. Bleday is now 7-for-18 which is nearly a .400 batting average over the last five games. It has been a fairly strong season for Bleday who has been a nice bright spot for the A's.

Tue Sep 19 202321:59JJ Bleday Could Return Next Week
Oakland Athletics outfielder JJ Bleday (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday, according to Martin Gallegos of MLB.com, and manager Mark Kotsay told reporters he could return next week if there are no setbacks. The former fourth-overall draft pick suffered an ACL sprain and hasn't played in the Majors since mid-August. Bleday has 77 games under his belt this season, and he's slashed .203/.313/.373 with 10 homers, 34 runs, 27 RBI, and five steals. He doesn't have much relevance in any format, even when healthy, so fantasy managers can ignore the 25-year-old once he's back in action.

Tue Aug 15 202323:08JJ Bleday Diagnosed With ACL Sprain
An MRI exam showed that Oakland Athletics outfielder JJ Bleday (knee) has an ACL sprain in his left knee. Manager Mark Kotsay said he doesn't want to rule out Bleday for the rest of the 2023 season, but a return this year is up in the air. The A's placed Bleday on the 10-day injured list before their game on Tuesday. The former fourth overall pick of the Miami Marlins back in 2019 has looked overmatched at the plate since making his MLB debut in 2022 with the Marlins. In 77 contests with the A's this year, he's hitting .203/.313/.373 with 10 home runs, 27 RBI, five stolen bases and 34 runs scored in 284 trips to the plate. Since the 25-year-old left-handed hitter isn't guaranteed to return in 2023, you'll probably want to look for a replacement off the waiver wire in deeper leagues.

Tue Aug 15 202316:54JJ Bleday Goes On Injured List
The Oakland Athletics placed outfielder JJ Bleday (knee) and pitcher Angel Felipe (elbow) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and recalled pitcher Tayler Scott from Triple-A Las Vegas and reinstated catcher Carlos Perez (thumb) from the injured list in corresponding moves. Bleday is dealing with a left-knee sprain and will now miss at least the next 10 days. With the 25-year-old Bleday on the shelf, expect to see a bit more of Tony Kemp and Brent Rooker making starts in the outfield for the rebuilding A's. In just his second major-league season, and the first in Oakland, Bleday is hitting a disappointing .203/.313/.373 with 10 home runs, 11 doubles, 27 RBI, five stolen bases and 34 runs scored in 77 games (284 plate appearances).

Sun May 14 202314:16JJ Bleday Sitting Sunday
Oakland Athletics outfielder JJ Bleday is absent from Sunday's starting lineup for the game against Andrew Heaney and the Texas Rangers. The 25-year-old has been impressive with the bat over 11 games, slashing .324/.359/.649 with three homers, seven runs, and three RBI after the team promoted him in early May, but has sat against lefties. So, with southpaw Heaney on the hill, he'll get the day off in favor of catcher Carlos Perez, who'll be the designated hitter in the cleanup spot. The five-year veteran has continued to swing a hit bat, producing a .333/.400/.526 slash line with three long balls through 24 games, and he can potentially be a solid streaming option while in the middle of the club's lineup.

Wed May 3 202318:54JJ Bleday Recalled On Wednesday
Oakland Athletics outfielder JJ Bleday has been recalled from the minors ahead of Wednesday's game against the Seattle Mariners. The left-handed slugger was acquired from the Miami Marlins back in February in exchange for lefty reliever A.J. Puk. The 25-year-old has been on fire in the minor leagues early in the season. He's hitting .316/.429/.643 with seven homers and one steal in 25 games in Triple-A. He'll bat fifth and play left field versus right-hander Logan Gilbert on Wednesday.

Mon Mar 13 202312:34A's Option JJ Bleday To Triple-A
The Oakland Athletics optioned outfielder JJ Bleday to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday. Bleday is headed for some more minor-league seasoning to begin the 2023 season, but he'll surely be up with the A's at some point this year. He was acquired from the Miami Marlins in the offseason in the deal that sent left-hander A.J. Puk to the Marlins. In 11 Cactus League games with Oakland, Bleday hit .286 with a home run and a stolen base. The 25-year-old former fourth overall pick in 2019 hit a disappointing .167/.277/.309 with a .586 OPS, five home runs, 16 RBI, 21 runs scored and four stolen bases in his first 65 major-league games in 2022 with the Fish. Bleday's prospect status has surely taken a hit, but he'll eventually get another chance in Oakland.

Sat Feb 11 202320:09JJ Bleday Traded To Athletics
Miami Marlins outfielder JJ Bleday has been traded to the Oakland Athletics on Saturday. In exchange, the Marlins will receive left-hander A.J. Puk from Oakland. Bleday was unlikely to have a significant role in Miami. He hit .167/.277/.309 with five homers and four steals with the Marlins last season. The 25-year-old should get more of a chance to make an impact with the rebuilding Athletics. As for the Marlins, Puk put together a fairly strong season in 2022. He finished with a 3.12 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 76 strikeouts in 62 appearances with Oakland. The 27-year-old could end up as a high leverage bullpen option for the Marlins.

Tue Sep 27 202223:44JJ Bleday Hits Homer Tuesday
Miami Marlins outfielder JJ Bleday had the biggest swing in Tuesday's 6-4 victory over the New York Mets, a two-run home run that looked more like a lazy fly ball until it landed over the right field fence. Bleday also singled and walked in five plate appearances. The rookie has yet to find his stride at the plate, with just a .618 OPS in his first 216 plate appearances, but with five homers and four steals on the year, he still has potential to grow into an excellent all-around fantasy option over the next few seasons.

Tue Aug 30 202214:56JJ Bleday Isn't In Tuesday's Lineup
Miami Marlins outfielder JJ Bleday isn't in the team's starting lineup on Tuesday for a matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays and left-handed starter Shane McClanahan. Bleday made his Major League debut earlier this year for Miami and is batting .200 with a .313 on-base percentage, four home runs, and three stolen bases in 128 plate appearances so far this season. Peyton Burdick is hitting eighth and starting in center field instead against the Rays. The 25-year-old is batting .157 with a .253 on-base percentage, two home runs, and a stolen base in 79 plate appearances this season. Fantasy managers are probably best off looking elsewhere for streaming options given the matchup with McLanahan.
