Wed Jul 1717:13Danny Mendick DFA'd, Lenyn Sosa Sent Down
To make room on the 40-man roster for newly signed infielder Nick Senzel, the Chicago White Sox designated infielder Danny Mendick for assignment and optioned infielder Lenyn Sosa to Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday. With Yoan Moncada (groin) out for the majority of the first half of the season, Mendick saw increased playing time on the short side of a platoon at the hot corner in Chicago and hit just .197 (26-for-132) with three home runs, eight RBI and six stolen bases. Sosa, 24, wasn't a whole lot better in limited at-bats in the first half, slashing .237/.274/.350 with four home runs, 15 RBI and three stolen bases in 177 at-bats as a utility infielder. Senzel, a former first-round pick, has more upside than either Mendick or Sosa and will be given a shot at the hot corner in Chicago to open the second half of the season, at least until Moncada returns from his injury.

Tue Apr 916:51Lenyn Sosa Starting At Second Base
Chicago White Sox infielder Lenyn Sosa is starting at second base and is hitting third in the batting order on Tuesday against the Cleveland Guardians and left-hander Logan Allen. This will be Sosa's second start with the White Sox since being called up from the minors over the weekend. With the 24-year-old drawing into the lineup at second base, Nicky Lopez will hit the bench for this one. Sosa has gone 2-for-5 so far in his two games but hit just .201/.224/.348 with six home runs, 14 RBI and 12 runs scored in 173 plate appearances over 52 games for the Pale Hose last year. He'll be in a nice lineup spot to make him a deep DFS sleeper on Tuesday, but Sosa's opportunity speaks more to Chicago's lack of options than his actual talent.

Tue Apr 11 202308:24White Sox Promoting Lenyn Sosa Tuesday
The Chicago White Sox are calling up prospect Lenyn Sosa from Triple-A on Tuesday, according to James Fegan of The Athletic. The 23-year-old has been tearing up Minor League pitching thus far, as he's slashing .448/.556/.828 with two home runs across nine games. Sosa made his Major League debut in 2022 and hit a paltry .114 with a .367 OPS. Obviously, he'll be looking to improve this time around and show off his hitting and power potential that made him Chicago's eighth-ranked prospect, as per MLB Pipeline. Sosa can play both middle infield spots, so he might get everyday reps if Tim Anderson (knee) has to miss time after injuring his knee on Monday. He isn't a must-add, just a deep-league player at this point.

Wed Jan 4 202300:34Romy Gonzalez, Lenyn Sosa Among Second Base Candidates
Chicago White Sox general manager Rick Hahn stated Tuesday that Romy Gonzalez and Lenyn Sosa are the team's leading candidates as internal options to start at second base, per Chicago Sun Times' Daryl Van Schouwen. Hahn also mentioned veteran Leury Garcia as a backup. Gonzalez had a poor 2022 season at the plate, slashing just .238/.257/.352 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 109 plate appearances. Sosa had a very successful season across Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte, but he only saw 36 plate appearances at the big-league level. Hahn did mention that it is possible that the White Sox could look outside of the organization for the position, but while neither Gonzalez nor Sosa inspire much fantasy confidence at this time, Sosa's success in the minors makes him a more intriguing fantasy option.
