Wed Aug 2112:16Josh Smith Sitting Against Pirates
Texas Rangers infielder Josh Smith is drawing out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Globe Life Field. Adolis Garcia will serve as the designated hitter and will bat cleanup, while Travis Jankowski makes the start in right field and will hit eighth against Pirates right-hander Domingo German. Due to injuries, mainly Josh Jung's broken wrist suffered early in the year, Smith has played in a career-high 119 games in 2024 in his third year in the big leagues. He's currently hitting .266/.355/.416 with a .771 OPS, 12 home runs, 51 RBI and eight stolen bases and has been a pleasant surprise for an overall disappointing Rangers team after they won their first-ever World Series last fall. While Smith has been a bright spot, the 27-year-old has struggled in the second half, hitting .198 (23-for-116) with two homers, four doubles, 11 RBI, three steals and 28 K's in 29 games.

Sun Jul 1417:07Josh Smith Powers Rangers With Two Homers
Texas Rangers infielder Josh Smith was 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI as Texas beat Houston 4-2. The 26-year-old continued his surprising year with another big game as he brought his season totals to 10 homers and 40 RBI to go with a .293 batting average. Smith has come into an everyday role due to an injury to Josh Jung, but he may force his way into staying in the lineup even when Jung returns. The sweet-swinging lefty has rewarded fantasy managers in a big way so far this season.

Sun Jul 712:35Josh Smith Back In Action For Rangers
Texas Rangers infielder Josh Smith (glute) is back at third base and is hitting third for the Rangers in Sunday's series finale against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Zack Littell. Smith missed the last two games with recurring glute tightness but will be back to close out the series against the Rays. The 26-year-old former second-round pick of the New York Yankees in 2019 out of LSU has really taken advantage of increased playing time at the hot corner in Texas this year after regular third baseman Josh Jung fractured his wrist early in the season. Smith will return to a .293/.386/.451 slash line with an .837 OPS, seven home runs, 34 RBI, four steals and 40 runs scored. He's currently riding a four-game hitting streak, going 6-for-16 (.375) with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.

Sat Jul 613:08Josh Smith Remains Out Of Lineup On Saturday
Texas Rangers infielder Josh Smith (glute) is once again out of the starting nine on Saturday as the Rangers continue a three-game set against the Tampa Bay Rays. Smith was left out of Friday's lineup due to hamstring tightness. Fantasy managers should continue to keep a close eye on the 26-year-old's status, as he missed a handful of games in June due to the same injury. The LSU product has had a solid first half with a .293/.386/.451 slash line. As a result, Jonathan Ornelas will man the hot corner this afternoon and bat in the nine-hole. Ornelas, who has appeared in only 13 major league games over the past two seasons, went 2-for-3 Friday evening but is best to be faded in DFS this afternoon as he will face Tampa Bay right-hander Taj Bradley. Bradley has posted a dominant 1.24 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and an 11:40 BB:K ratio over his past five starts.

Fri Jul 518:21Josh Smith Held Out On Friday
Texas Rangers infielder Josh Smith (glute) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. This is the same issue that sidelined Smith for some time in June. The 26-year-old is hopeful to only miss a few games, but we'll wait and see what happens. This season Smith is slashing .293/.386/.451 with seven home runs and 34 RBI in 83 games. He has been a nice surprise for them, so hopefully Smith won't miss too much time. Jonathan Ornelas will draw the start at third base and bat ninth against right-hander Shane Baz.

Wed Jun 1909:05Josh Smith Returns In Big Way
Texas Rangers infielder Josh Smith (hamstring) made his first start since June 13 due to a hamstring injury and returned in a big way on Tuesday versus the New York Mets. Smith suited up as the designated hitter and went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run out of the No. 3 spot in the batting order. Smith has quietly put together a nice season with a .298 batting average to go along five homers, 28 RBI and four stolen bases in 69 games. Third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) has begun his rehab assignment, but Smith's versatility across the diamond should keep him in the lineup. Smith has overachieved this season, but his versatility and spot in the middle of the Rangers lineup should continue to make him a valuable option in deeper leagues.

Thu Jun 610:47Josh Smith Homers, Gets On Base Four Times
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Smith fell a triple shy of the cycle in Wednesday's 9-1 victory over the Tigers. Smith went 3-for-4 with a single, a double, a solo home run, two RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. The 26-year-old also got on base once via a walk. He's filled in at the hot corner admirably since Josh Jung hit the IL, posting a .290-4-24-30-4 line with a .364 wOBA and 136 wRC+, even more so as of late, going 21-for-64 (.328) over his last 17 games. Fantasy managers should consider the former second-round draft pick as at least a bench bat, as he's also eligible at 3B, SS, and OF. He's available in 60% of Yahoo leagues.

Fri Apr 2608:24Josh Smith Records Two Hits In Loss
Texas Rangers infielder Josh Smith continued his strong campaign versus the Seattle Mariners on Thursday. Smith went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run in the loss to the Mariners. He has seemingly come out of nowhere and been a reliable option for this offense. He's slashing 292/.393/.417 over 72 at-bats, but he's more of a bench option which limits his fantasy value.

Wed Mar 2012:42Josh Smith Back In Lineup Wednesday
Texas Rangers shortstop Josh Smith (hand) is back in the team's Cactus League lineup on Wednesday, starting at shortstop and batting second against the Cincinnati Reds. Smith returns to the lineup quickly after he was removed from Tuesday's game early after he was hit by a pitch in the right hand. The 26-year-old could see more playing time early in the season if Corey Seager (hernia) isn't ready to go, but otherwise Smith is expected to play a utility infield role for the defending World Series champions in 2024. Smith saw action at shortstop, third base and left field last year in Texas and hit just .185/.304/.328 with six home runs and 15 RBI in 90 games played in his second year in the big leagues. He is not on the fantasy radar in mixed leagues.

Fri Apr 7 202313:31Josh H. Smith Returns For Rangers
Texas Rangers outfielder Josh H. Smith (face) is back in the starting lineup on Friday against the Chicago Cubs and right-hander Marcus Stroman. Smith is starting in left field and hitting ninth in the batting order. The 25-year-old outfielder will return to action for the first time since getting hit in the face by a pitch on Monday against the Baltimore Orioles. The left-handed hitter has minimal DFS appeal in the nine-hole for Texas, and he's gone just 1-for-4 two three runs scored, two walks and three strikeouts in his first three games of the season in just his second MLB campaign.

Tue Apr 4 202308:23Josh H. Smith's CT Scans Are Negative
Texas Rangers utility player Josh H. Smith (face) had a CT scan done on Monday after the conclusion of the 2-0 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. They came back "clean," according to Kennedi Landry of MLB.com. Smith was hit in the face by a pitch and left the contest in the third inning. There's still more to come on his status moving forward. Over three games this season, the 25-year-old is slashing .250/.625/.250 with three runs and no extra-base hits. Considering Smith's career .198 batting average and .565 OPS over 76 games, he isn't fantasy relevant right now until he starts showing off his potential that made him a second-round draft pick in 2019.

Mon Apr 3 202321:17Josh H. Smith Hit By Pitch In Face, Leaves Early
Texas Rangers outfielder Josh H. Smith left his team's Monday night game against the Baltimore Orioles after getting hit in the side of the face by a pitch during the third inning. The HBP was Smith's only plate appearance of the evening and he was quickly replaced by pinch-runner Ezequiel Duran at first base. Smith has picked up one hit and scored three runs in four at-bats thus far in the 2023 season. Look for the Rangers to update his status after the conclusion of Monday's contest.
