Tue Sep 1000:14Tylor Megill Tosses Quality Start, Fans Nine In No-Decision
New York Mets pitcher Tylor Megill turned in a solid outing in Monday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jays. Megill, who got the nod after Paul Blackburn (hand, back) faced a delay in his return from the injured list due to a lower back issue, pitched six scoreless innings. The 29-year-old allowed just one hit and two walks with nine strikeouts. Megill was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse at the end of August and has compiled a stellar 2.34 ERA in three starts. However, the Mets have stated that they are giving Blackburn a 48-hour window to assess his response to back treatment and that he will slot back into the starting rotation if able, with Megill moving to the bullpen. Even if Blackburn is unable to return, the next time around the rotation would be a tough matchup at the Phillies, so fantasy managers may want to avoid whoever makes the start.

Mon Sep 912:09Paul Blackburn Won't Start Monday, Tylor Megill To Get The Nod
New York Mets right-hander Paul Blackburn (hand), who was originally scheduled to come off the 15-day injured list to make the start on Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre, will no longer start, according to the team. Instead, right-hander Tylor Megill is the team's new probable starter. It's unclear if Blackburn has had a setback with his hand, but if he hasn't, the 30-year-old veteran could just be pushed back a day as a precaution. Blackburn suffered a right-hand bruise several weeks ago on a comebacker but is close to rejoining the Mets' starting rotation. Since coming over from the Oakland Athletics in a trade, Blackburn has been an unreliable fantasy streamer, going 1-2 with a 5.18 ERA and 1.56 WHIP with 21 strikeouts and seven walks in 24 1/3 innings over his five starts. He'll be a shaky deep-league streamer if he rejoins the rotation this week in Toronto.

Fri Aug 3012:42Tylor Megill Being Called Up To Start On Friday
The New York Mets are calling up right-hander Tylor Megill from Triple-A Syracuse to make the start on Friday in the series opener versus the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field. Megill has the opportunity to stick around in New York's starting rotation for a couple turns with Paul Blackburn (hand) currently on the 15-day injured list. The 29-year-old Megill has an ERA over 5.00 in 10 appearances (nine starts) for the Mets this year, but he's also sporting a career-best 26.3% strikeout rate in 47 innings pitched. On the flip side, he has a walk rate over 10% and hasn't started a game in the big leagues since July 27, when he gave up four earned runs (three homers) in six innings in a loss to the Braves. However, with an excellent matchup on tap against the Pale Hose, we wouldn't blame fantasy managers in deeper leagues for taking a chance on Megill as a streaming option on Friday.

Mon Aug 2622:13Tylor Megill The Favorite To Join Mets Rotation
New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill is the strong front-runner to join the team's starting rotation in Paul Blackburn's (hand, wrist) spot, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. Megill's first turn in the rotation will come on Thursday on the road against the hosting Arizona Diamondback, which won't be ideal for deep-league streaming purposes. The 29-year-old has not pitched for the Mets since July 31 and hasn't started a game since July 27 against the Atlanta Braves. Megill hasn't been very effective for the Mets in his 10 big-league appearances (nine starts) this year, going 2-5 with a 5.17 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and a 55:22 K:BB in 47 innings pitched. He has been better in his time with Triple-A Syracuse, but fantasy managers should steer clear of him as a streaming option later this week against one of the hottest teams in baseball.

Sun Jun 3012:15Tylor Megill Optioned, Brooks Raley Moved To 60-Day Injured List
The New York Mets optioned right-hander Tylor Megill and left-hander Danny Young to Triple-A Syracuse after Saturday's loss to the Houston Astros and selected the contracts of left-hander Tyler Jay and right-hander Matt Festa from Syracuse in corresponding moves. The team also transferred left-hander Brooks Raley (elbow) to the 60-day injured list and designated outfielder Duke Ellis for assignment. Megill surrendered six earned runs in 5 1/3 innings in the loss to Houston on Saturday and will now head to the minors after posting an ERA over 7.00 in five starts in June. With Megill out of the rotation, rookie left-hander Christian Scott is expected to make his return to the big leagues. Raley will miss the rest of this year and the start of 2025 after having an internal-brace procedure on his left elbow.

Sat Jun 2923:15Tylor Megill Shipped Down To Triple-A Syracuse
New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill was sent down to Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday. The Mets are likely going with Christian Scott or Jose Butto when Megill's next scheduled start arrives. Megill is (2-4) with a 4.85 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 33 2/3 innings with 43 strikeouts and 16. He had allowed at least three runs in three of his last four starts. The Mets have the luxury to backfill his spot with a reliever to help a thin bullpen. Fantasy managers will have to wait to see when the Mets announce whether Butto or Scott will start Tuesday against the Washington Nationals.

Tue May 2821:53Tylor Megill Dominates Dodgers In Game 1
New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill took a tough-luck no-decision in Tuesday's loss to the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers during the matinee of a twin bill, throwing seven scoreless innings on three hits and one walk with nine strikeouts. Megill impressively held down a vaunted Dodgers lineup in Game 1 on Tuesday, delivering one of the best performances of his career. The big 28-year-old right-hander has been limited to three starts for the Mets this year, but he's been very effective when healthy with a 1.69 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 20:6 K:BB over 16 innings. Sunday's series finale at home against the disappointing Arizona Diamondbacks marks Megill's next projected start, and he'll carry a decent level of streaming appeal for fantasy purposes in that one to close the week.

Mon May 2014:35Tylor Megill Officially Activated From The 15-Day Injured List
The New York Mets officially activated pitcher Tylor Megill (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list. Megill went on the IL in late March with a shoulder strain after tossing four innings of one-run ball against the Milwaukee Brewers on March 31. Monday will mark his second start of the season, and his first since that March 31 outing. In his first start back, expect the right-hander to be on somewhat of a pitch count. However, he could be a nice streaming option against the Cleveland Guardians. He threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings with six strikeouts in his last rehab start in Triple-A. To activate him, the Mets optioned pitcher Grant Hartwig to Triple-A Syracuse.

Tue May 1401:15Tylor Megill Could Be On Verge Of A Return
New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (shoulder) tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings for Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday in yet another strong minor-league rehab outing. In his four rehab starts, Megill has given up just one run on nine hits over 16 innings and has struck out 23 with just one walk. The Mets will now decide whether to reinstate him from the 15-day injured list this week. Even though the 28-year-old has looked good on his rehab assignment, manager Carlos Mendoza has been hesitant to say that Megill will be handed a rotation spot upon his return. Megill has been on the IL since April 1 with a shoulder strain but has been building up as a starter as he rehabs. A multi-inning relief role would put Megill off the fantasy radar in deep leagues. He was hit with the loss in his lone start this year in 2024 on March 31 against the Brewers, when he allowed an earned run in four innings of work.

Tue May 712:52Tylor Megill Tosses Four Scoreless Innings In Rehab Start
New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (shoulder) threw four scoreless innings in a minor-league rehab start on Tuesday for Triple-A Syracuse with seven strikeouts and just one walk. Manager Carlos Mendoza said on Monday that it was possible this would be Megill's last rehab start. If so, the Mets will have to decide if Megill jumps back into the starting rotation or stays at Syracuse. If the Mets don't move to a six-man rotation when the 28-year-old is activated from the injured list, rookie Christian Scott could be the odd man out and sent back to Syracuse if the Mets are intent on returning Megill to their rotation. In his one start before his injury, Megill gave up just one earned run in four innings against the Brewers on March 31 while walking three and striking out four. He'll be an option in NL-only leagues if he rejoins New York's rotation.

Fri Apr 2616:16Tylor Megill To Begin Rehab Assignment Saturday
New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (shoulder) is scheduled to start a minor-league rehab assignment on Saturday and throw two innings for High-A Brooklyn. Megill is getting close to returning to the big leagues while recovering from a right-shoulder strain that he suffered during his season debut on March 31 against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 28-year-old will probably need more than one rehab start before the Mets activate him from the injured list. When fully healthy, Megill should have a spot in New York's starting rotation, making him worth a deep-league pickup for pitching depth. He ended up making 25 starts for the Mets in 2023 and held a 4.70 ERA (4.96 FIP) and 1.57 WHIP with a career-high 105 strikeouts and 58 walks in 126 1/3 innings pitched.

Sat Apr 2001:01Tylor Megill Throws First Bullpen Friday
New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill (shoulder) threw his first bullpen assignment on Friday. Megill is ramping up his throwing activity as he recuperates from a strained right shoulder that's held him to one start so far in the 2024 regular season, which came in New York's opening series of the campaign. The big 28-year-old right-hander is probably not going to be activated from the injured list before the end of April at this rate, but Megill could be an option for the Mets sometime in early May. With righty Jose Butto beginning to emerge in the rotation, Megill could be facing a long-relief role upon his eventual return. Butto has yielded a lone run while fanning 15 hitters and walking four covering 12 innings (two starts) in Queens this year, but he's a dangerous fantasy bet in Saturday's scheduled start against a high-powered Los Angeles Dodgers offense at Chavez Ravine.

Mon Apr 114:30Mets Place Tylor Megill On 15-Day Injured List
The New York Mets have placed right-hander Tylor Megill on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder strain. The 28-year-old won a spot in the Mets' rotation to begin the season but was removed from his first start of the season on Sunday after four innings due to what was initially described as tenderness in his right shoulder. An MRI revealed the strain. Megill made 25 starts with the Mets last season but posted a 4.70 ERA alongside a weak 5.6% K-BB% in his 126 1/3 innings of work. A strong spring that saw him toss a 3.92 ERA in six outings with 23 strikeouts against six walks in 20 2/3 innings earned him a shot in the rotation to begin the season but he will hit the shelf for at least the next couple of weeks.UPDATE: Megill said he won't throw for the next five days, but the plan is for him to begin ramping up again after that. He sees it as the type of shoulder strain that will knock him out for a couple of starts rather than the type that could cost him significant time.

Wed Mar 2017:39Tylor Megill Wins Rotation Spot
New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill has won an Opening Day starting rotation spot due to Kodai Senga's (shoulder) injury, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. As a result, Jose Butto will open the year in the minor leagues, although he'll likely be the next starter up, potentially as early as the team's 13-day stretch of no off days in April. The 28-year-old Megill earned his rotation spot in New York by posting a 3.45 ERA and 1.02 WHIP while walking four and striking out 16 in 15 2/3 Grapefruit League innings this spring. The former eighth-round pick by the Mets in 2018 out of Arizona went 9-8 last year with a 4.70 ERA and 1.57 WHIP while walking 58 and striking out a career-high 105 hitters in 126 1/3 innings over 25 starts. Megill now becomes a rotation option for fantasy managers in NL-only leagues.

Mon Mar 413:24Tylor Megill Looking Solid This Spring
New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill has looked good so far in spring training, giving up only one run while striking out seven and walking none in five innings so far. Last spring, he walked 13 hitters in 17 innings. "I couldn't be prouder of Tylor and his offseason and how he took ownership of it," pitching coach Jeremy Hefner said. "It goes back to his mentality toward the end of the season going into the offseason a real clear view of who he is, what he's trying to do, what his pitches do, how to use his pitches. For me, that's empowering." Megill is also operating with a new splitter this year as he looks to solidify his spot at the back end of New York's starting rotation to start the new season. The 28-year-old was very mediocre in 25 starts for the Mets last year with only an 18.5% strikeout rate.

Thu Feb 2212:21Tylor Megill, Joey Lucchesi, Others Now Competing For Rotation Spot
New York Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said that the team prefers that their yet-to-debut pitching prospects like Mike Vasil, Christian Scott and Dominic Hamel pitch in the minors more before being asked to make their big-league debuts in the wake of right-hander Kodai Senga's (shoulder) injury. The rotation competition with Senga expected to open the year on the injured list will essentially be among Tylor Megill, Joey Lucchesi, Jose Butto and Max Kranick. Adrian Houser could be another option. Megill is probably the best bet and also offers the most upside for fantasy managers in deeper leagues. However, the 28-year-old righty struggled in 2023, posting a 4.70 ERA with 105 K's and 58 walks in 126 1/3 innings pitched over 25 starts.

Sat Sep 30 202321:41Tylor Megill Ends Year Strong In Ninth Win
New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill fired 7 1/3 innings of one-run ball on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts for his ninth win of the year in the matinee of Saturday's doubleheader versus the Philadelphia Phillies. Megill cruised through seven scoreless innings before permitting a few singles to the bottom of the order ahead of Philadelphia's lineup turning over in the eighth frame, causing his removal at 101 pitches. The 28-year-old was provided an early four-run lead, and it was just enough, as closer Adam Ottavino allowed things to get interesting in the ninth. Megill turned in a respectable final month of play with a 2.55 ERA in 35 1/3 innings (six starts). The right-hander has served as more of an innings eater for the Mets in recent years, but he could be part of a rebuilding 2024 rotation after they moved Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander at the trade deadline.

Sun Sep 10 202321:20Tylor Megill Throws Five Scoreless Innings
New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill looked good during Sunday's game against the Minnesota Twins. The right-hander allowed two hits and four walks over five shutout innings during Sunday's victory. Megill struggled with his command, but was able to get through the threats without any damage. Megill has now allowed three or fewer runs in five straight outings. He's posting a respectable 3.12 ERA during that span. Fantasy managers should consider Megill a possible streaming option for his next outing versus the Cincinnati Reds.

Sat Aug 5 202316:48Tylor Megill Recalled And Starting On Saturday
New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill has been recalled ahead of Saturday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. The Mets are in need of starters after trading Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander at the deadline. Megill will get another chance after posting a rough 5.17 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and a 58/39 K/BB ratio across 15 starts this season. He'll likely stick around for a bit with the Mets needing arms. However, fantasy managers shouldn't expect Megill to offer much value.

Thu Jun 22 202321:51Tylor Megill Optioned To Triple-A Syracuse
The New York Mets optioned right-hander Tylor Megill to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday. The 27-year-old struggled in June, posting a 6.75 ERA, 1.90 WHIP, and 15:12 K: BB across 17 1/3 innings over his previous four starts in June. He was scheduled to face the Brewers on Tuesday, but the Mets have yet to announce his replacement in the rotation. Megill owned a (6-4) record with a 5.17 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, and a 58:39 K: BB across 71 1/3 innings. Fantasy managers can move on Megill in most league formats while the right-hander looks to get back on track in Triple-A.
