Mon Sep 900:20Osvaldo Bido Set To Rejoin Rotation, JP Sears Bumped Back
Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Osvaldo Bido will rejoin the starting rotation on Tuesday against the Houston Astros. Bido was skipped on Saturday, potentially to reduce his workload as he is nearing his total from last year. This is an important move for fantasy, as Bido becomes a two-start pitcher this week (as long as the A's don't skip his next start as well) with the second matchup being against the lowly White Sox. He is a solid option in standard-size leagues, especially points leagues. Also noteworthy is that JP Sears is no longer a two-start pitcher and will lose the juicy White Sox matchup.

Tue Aug 603:20JP Sears Strikes Out Five In Monday's Win
Oakland Athletics starting pitcher JP Sears (9-8) recorded his ninth win and logged a quality start while allowing one run on three hits with one walk and five strikeouts in a 4-1 win against the Chicago White Sox on Monday. Sears' 4.35 ERA is nothing to write home about, but with the A's offense significantly improving from last season, the run support has been much better than last year at the Coliseum. The 28-year-old is sizzling this summer with a 3.07 ERA in July and is off to a great start in August after handing the White Sox their 21st straight loss. His next start won't be easy, as the A's head across the Northern border to face the Toronto Blue Jays this weekend.

Thu Jul 1100:50JP Sears Shines With Eight Strikeouts In Sixth Win
Oakland Athletics starting pitcher JP Sears delivered an outstanding start at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday, producing eight strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings of work. Sears got his sixth win of the campaign on Wednesday, yielding a lone run on four hits and two walks. The 28-year-old left-hander is merely a streaming option under favorable circumstances from a fantasy perspective, registering a 4.56 ERA and 1.26 WHIP to go along with 76 strikeouts and 32 walks through 19 starts (100 2/3 innings) during his second full season with the A's.

Fri Jul 509:19JP Sears Tosses Five Scoreless Innings
Oakland Athletics starting pitcher JP Sears put together a much-needed strong start on Thursday versus the Los Angeles Angels. Sears had an awful month of June with a 7.94 ERA, but his July started on a much higher note with five shutout innings. Over that span, Sears allowed two hits, one walk and recorded six strikeouts. It was one of the best starts of the season for the left-hander and this can hopefully get his season back on track. Despite the strong effort, Sears has had plenty of blow up performances and is not likely to rack up many victories on a bad Athletics team. Outside of the most favorable streaming matchups, Sears can be avoided. Next up for the lefty will be a date with the Boston Red Sox on the road.

Thu Apr 1118:35JP Sears Takes No-Hitter Into Seventh Inning
Oakland Athletics left-hander JP Sears allowed one hit across 6 1/3 scoreless innings during Thursday's 1-0 victory over the Texas Rangers. He struck out five batters while issuing three walks en route to his first win of the season. It was a nice bounce-back performance for the 28-year-old after a pair of inefficient outings to kick off 2024. Sears shows glimpses of fantasy viability every so often, but his inconsistency makes him nothing more than a streaming option in 2024. He is a risky play in his next projected start on Tuesday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Thu Feb 2915:18JP Sears Busts Out New Sinker In Spring Debut
Oakland Athletics left-hander JP Sears showcased his new sinker when he threw two perfect innings on Tuesday in his Cactus League debut against the Cleveland Guardians. Thirteen of his 19 pitches were thrown for strikes, including two strikeouts. The 28-year-old southpaw, who led the team with 32 starts in 2203, threw his developing sinker three times, inducing a fly out and striking out one hitter. In his first full MLB season last year, Sears had a 4.54 ERA and 1.26 WHIP while going 5-14. He's going to be counted on again to be a bulldog at the top of Oakland's rotation in 2024 and is worth a flier in the later rounds of deep-mixed drafts for his strikeout upside, especially if he can improve against left-handed hitters this year.

Tue Jul 4 202309:59JP Sears Facing The Tigers On Tuesday
Oakland Athletics lefty JP Sears is getting the ball for Tuesday's game against Tarik Skubal and the Detroit Tigers. The 27-year-old is sporting a 4.43 ERA with a respectable 1.08 WHIP and 23.9% strikeout rate but has struggled with the long ball, surrendering 1.96 home runs every nine innings. Sears also pitches for arguably the worst team in baseball and has just one victory to his name over 16 starts. The Tigers are an easier matchup for the third-year player, but fantasy managers should only start or roster him in deep and AL-only leagues.

Sat May 13 202313:42JP Sears To Start Sunday Against The Rangers
Oakland Athletics starting pitcher JP Sears will start Sunday against the Texas Rangers after having his start pushed back. James Kaprielian is starting on Saturday against Texas so everyone will have their starts pushed back by one day. The 27-year-old lefty owns an ugly 5.54 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over his first seven starts (37 1/3 innings) of the season.

Thu Mar 30 202318:36JP Sears To Start Tuesday
Oakland Athletics pitcher JP Sears will get the call to begin the season as the No. 5 starter. Paul Blackburn and Drew Rucinski will open the season on the IL, opening the spot for Sears. The lefty pitched to a 3.86 ERA over 70 innings pitched for the Yankees and A's last season. He started 11 games, pitching in 17 total. His ERA+ of 99 and FIP of 4.21 were more telling of his abilities. It's not known how long he'll keep a spot in the rotation, but he shouldn't be rushed to grab.

Mon Aug 22 202200:28JP Sears Improves To 5-0
Oakland Athletics starting pitcher JP Sears continued his charmed beginning to his major-league career, earning his fifth win in his 10th game and fifth start. Sears allowed one run on six hits and a walk in five innings of work against the Seattle Mariners. He struck out three batters. The left-hander, included in the trade package from the New York Yankees for Frankie Montas, has a 1.93 ERA and 0.96 WHIP with 23 strikeouts through 37 1/3 innings. He has yet to complete six innings in a start, but a bit more length would place the rookie squarely on the fantasy radar through the end of the season despite playing for the lowly Athletics.
