Hughes was called to the bigs on April 24 after a decent start at Triple-A and spent three weeks with the Orioles. But he hit just .213 with a .275 on-base percentage in 47 at-bats and wasn't helping Baltimore's offensive woes. A corresponding move will be announced on Sunday morning. |
Sun Apr 25 2010 | 18:03 | Orioles' Hughes hits go-ahead single in 10th |
Rhyne Hughes hit a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the 10th inning as the Orioles defeated the Red Sox 7-6 on Sunday. |
Hughes' single made it a 5-4 game and Matt Wieters followed with a two-run single of his own to make it 7-4. The bullpen almost blew the game in the bottom of the 10th, but Cla Meredith ultimately bailed out Jim Johnson to get the save. Hughes also added a walk and a double in the contest. Since he's off to a nice start in the majors, expect the Orioles to continue to play him fairly often until he cools off or Garrett Atkins gets hot. |
