The 33-year-old began the 2014 season with the Blue Jays organization, splitting time between Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Buffalo. He was dealt to the White Sox in mid-June and went on to appear in 10 games at Triple-A Charlotte. Now with the Tigers, Hill will report to Triple-A Toledo, where he made 26 starts last season, going 4-14 with a 5.51 ERA across 150.1 innings. |

White Sox acquired RHP Shawn Hill from the Blue Jays for cash considerations. |
Hill will head to Triple-A Charlotte and probably won't be an option for the White Sox bullpen at any point in the near future. The 33-year-old was sporting a 4.94 ERA in 47 1/3 innings between Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Buffalo prior to Wednesday's trade. |

Marlins signed RHP Shawn Hill to a minor league contract. |
He'll earn $600,000 if he makes the team. Hill pitched well in 20 2/3 innings for the Blue Jays this past season, posting a 2.61 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over four starts. He was also terrific in the minors, putting together a 1.61 ERA over 11 outings. Hill has always had some ability, but shoulder and elbow problems have been ongoing. He's likely to be at Triple-A to start the season. |
Tue Nov 16 2010 | 22:30 | Blue Jays release RHP Shawn Hill |
Blue Jays released RHP Shawn Hill. |
This is a minor surprise, as he wouldn't have cost very much to bring back, but the Jays apparently value having an extra spot on the 40-man roster. Hill spent most of the season in the minor leagues while working his way back from Tommy John surgery, but posted a 2.61 ERA and 14/4 K/BB ratio over four starts as a September call-up. He won't have a problem finding a job as a low-risk/high-reward-type this winter. |
Fri Oct 1 2010 | 01:53 | Jays' Hill removed in fifth inning |
Shawn Hill was removed after allowing one run in 4 2/3 innings Thursday against the Twins. |
The Jays surely would have liked to see Hill get a win, but as fragile as the right-hander is, it didn't make sense to extend him further. He ended up 1-2 with a 2.61 ERA in four starts for the Jays. It will be interesting to see if they hang on to him this winter. He's arbitration eligible, but it should cost less than $1 million to re-sign him. |
Thu Sep 23 2010 | 15:13 | Jays' Hill picks up first win since April '09 |
Shawn Hill pitched five scoreless innings and matched his career high with seven strikeouts Thursday in a win over the Mariners. |
The Mariners went with Justin Smoak in the cleanup spot and had two players make their major league debuts today (Matt Mangini and Greg Halman), giving Hill as easy of an assignment as any MLB pitcher has had this season. The win was the fragile right-hander's first since April 10, 2009. |
Thu Sep 9 2010 | 22:03 | Hill struggles in first start for Toronto |
In his first major league start since last April, Shawn Hill allowed four runs -- three earned -- over 5 1/3 innings in Thursday's loss to the Rangers. |
He gave up eight hits, walked one and struck out a pair. Hill posted a nifty 1.61 ERA in 11 rehab starts in the minors after coming back from Tommy John surgery, but as a guy that's not especially a groundball pitcher and doesn't miss bats, we have trouble buying him in fantasy. Assuming he does get another start, it will likely come next week against the Orioles. |
Mon Sep 6 2010 | 16:41 | Blue Jays call up Shawn Hill |
Blue Jays purchased the contract of RHP Shawn Hill from Triple-A Las Vegas. |
He'll start against the Rangers on Thursday. Hill hasn't pitched in the major leagues since last April as a member of the Padres and underwent Tommy John surgery last June. The 29-year-old right-hander posted a fantastic 1.61 ERA and 39/8 K/BB ratio over 11 minor league rehab starts. It's a nice bounceback story, but we aren't buying in fantasy leagues quite yet. |
